Torah Bright: Adventures in OZ

The kids I rode with at Perisher! Fun day!

I’ve been back in Australia for a week and a half and have managed to do a million and one things. I spent some solid time at Perisher with Jake and the local crew there, had some sunny spring days riding the newly named “Bright’s Pipe” and we even lucked out with a powder day in the gum trees. Fun times!

Powder day and snowboarding amongst the gum trees!

Went to Sydney to shoot the cover for Women’s Health magazine and to Melbourne for the autograph signings and the Chalet Girl movie premiere. Which I highly recommend!! But my favorite part of this whirlwind trip home was hanging out up at Mt. Hothem with the Roxy sales reps and getting to teach Sally Fitzgibbons how to snowboard. It was so much fun and she totally rips! Hopefully someone snagged some video clips so I can share them with you. Legend! Can’t wait for our surf trip so she can teach me a thing or two in return!

Sally and I after our shred session!

Kjersti Buaas 2nd place New Zealand Open

Over the weekend our girl Kjersti Buaas won 2nd place in the slopestyle event and 6th place in the halfpipe at the first stop of the Global Open series in New Zealand.  This contest marks the beginning of the new 2011/12  winter competition season, so Kjersti is off to a great start!  Here’s a few words from Kjersti about the event:

“My best run in the slopestyle event consisted of: 360 tap, 50-50 to backside boardslide, 50-50 to bs. 180 off the pole jam, cab 540 indy, fs. 720 mute and a fs 360 stalefish. The course and weather stayed perfect, actually the best conditions I have ever ridden here.

The next  morning in the halfpipe event I tried some good old air-to-fakies in practice, but I was mainly focusing on pacing my energy, since I was running on fumes. The finals started and the first contest run that went down made everybody on the top go; wooohhhh! Spanish rider Queralt Castellet dropped in and did the biggest bs. 900 I have ever seen from a girl and set the standard for the rest of the day.

I was inspired by the American mafia, Kelly, Gretchen, Elena and Hannah, that did not disappoint! fs and bs 900′s, cab 720 and huge airs went down left and right. I aso surprised myself and landed a good run, witch earned me 6th place out of 8th riders in the finals. I also won the creative use of space award, for my air-to-fakie on the first hit, something that I feel very honored to win.

Big thanks to my sponsors, Roxy, Monster, DNB Nor and KAB for the amazing support. Special thanks to “coach of the week”, One Life team captain Chanelle Sladics for holding it down!  -KJ”

Download Of The Week: I Break Horses “Winter Beats”

Available 8/10 – 8/17: I Break Horses “Winter Beats”

Taking their name from a Smog song, Stockholm’s I Break Horses crafts warm sounds from cold Scandinavian days and nights. Although you may catch traces of Slowdive or the Helio Sequence in the duo’s glittering synths, electronic beats, and especially Maria Lindén’s alluring vocals, the nine tracks that make up I Break Horses’ debut album Hearts pulse with originality. The record was methodically made over the course of a couple years, and we think you’ll find it ideal for pushing forward on the treadmill or simply getting out of bed in the morning!

Fringe-worthy Favorites

We’re absolutely loving all the fringe-y favorites available on Roxy.com. It’s the ease of creating a layered look without many layers at all. The trick is fringe of course! We’ve collected some of our best pieces to share with you. You’ll see why it’s so easy to achieve that perfect look for the rest of summer, using colors that will last throughout fall.

Starting with a staple hobo bag we have selected the Sail Fish bag with the perfect amount of fringe and metal detailing on the side.  Here we show it in the Tomahawk Brown, but be our guest and check out 5 additional colors online (the Desert Rose was another major contender for this post). Next up is the Balboa Breeze Coverup with a flirty-fringed backside. While it comes in both white and black we thought the white really made our Roxy feather and beaded necklace really pop! I like the idea of belting this number and wearing it as a dress or simply tossing it on over your swim suit. For fun we thought these Big Wave shorts might be a nice addition to any closet. Instead of plan cotton shorts these are decked out in fringe begging you to shake it! …and last, but certainly not least, the Malachite Sweater with simple fringe-tie detailing is all you need to shield yourself from the chilly night breeze. It’s the perfect compliment to any outfit and will be a staple in your closet all year long. Now it’s your turn to show us why you love Roxy fringe!

Torah Bright: HP Commercial

Back in Persiher!

I’m finally back in OZ! I’ve been back home in Cooma hanging with my family and filming a new commercial spot at Perisher for HP. I’ve signed on as their new ePrint ambassador, which I’m really excited about and I can’t wait for the commercial to come out. It was a real family affair. My younger sister’s a hair stylist and was on the crew doing my hair and my Mum has a cameo in the actual commercial! Here are a few photos from the day and I’ll keep you posted on when the spot will start airing. Also, if you’re in Australia I’ll be on the Wide World of Sports this Sunday on channel 9!

Action! My Mum on set!

We’re on the photo booth and I’m picking her nose :)

So, great to back at home with the fam for a bit!

Greetings from Snowboard Camp!

While most of the country has beens sweating through record breaking heat, Roxy team rider Erin Comstock has been chilling out on the glacier of Mt. Hood, Oregon at one of the funnest places on earth: High Cascade Snowboard Camp. This week Erin and a bunch of talented Finnish pro snowboarders have hosted a session of camp. Fun activities have included snowboard clinics up on the mountain, meanwhile down at the camp site they’ve been flipping into foam pits, playing games of sting pong (where losers have to bare their back to the strike of a ping pong ball), dodge ball, and all-girl Roxy nights. Their still taking reservations for August sessions, so if you’re looking to beat the heat head to the hills!

Denim Daze

These are the days when the sun is hot, the days are long, and our shorts are short! Ranking supreme on our denim radar for the rest of Summer and into Fall are the Sunset Drop Shorts. Not only do they come in an array of beautiful blue hues but they have great distress detailing and a colorful drawcord which is a perfect addition to give you that extra pop of color you’ve been itching for, and don’t be fooled washed and worn look!  These shorts are so soft to the touch that you are going to want to frolick and play in them everyday.

Forever a fan of slightly sun-bleached hues, I dig the retro washed out appeal these denim shorts in the pictures exude, but as the days cool down I fall back in love with the dark indigos of the dark vintage or even a hint of color with a pair of olive shorts.  If you haven’t tried on a pair from Roxy’s Surf Denim line, you have to get to a store and find out what you’re missing because you’re moments away from falling in love with you new favorite pair of denim. For more styles check them out online right now!

Torah Bright: Lake Powell

Last week, I went to Lake Powell for a much needed summer adventure and a getaway from home improvements. I’ve lived in Utah for a long time now and this was my first trip down there and it was absolutely amazing! If you’ve never been I highly recommend it. We did the whole Lake Powell experience, renting a houseboat and jet skis; cruising around the millions of years of sandstone channels, jumping off cliffs, swimming and just taking in the massiveness of it all. So beautiful! Here are a few of the hundreds of photos I took throughout the week. Enjoy and get yourself there as soon as possible!

Torah Bright: Gardening

I’ve been on a home improvement kick for the last few weeks, spending all of my time in the garden weeding, planting and weeding some more. I’m amazed at how much work it can be to maintain a few flowers and some trees, the weeds are seriously out of control.  But it’s nice to get outside and work in the dirt planting and designing our green space while also getting my tan on after a winter spent in the snow. Here are a few photos of the fruits of our labor and now that things are tidied up at home we’re off to Lake Powell for a few days of fun in a houseboat!

tulips sans weeds!
