The 3rd annual Roxy Waikiki Classic comes to an end!

The 3rd Annual Roxy Waikiki Classic comes to an end!

Close to 200 girls came out to compete in the 3rd annual Roxy Waikiki Classic and since it’s origination, it has become the event all the young girls of Hawaii wait for in grand anticipation. It’s a favorite weekend amongst the girls who relish the opportunity to surf with friends, meet surfing idols like Lisa Andersen, Kelia Moniz, Rosy Hodge and Bruna Schmitz and just surf the fun waves of Waikiki.

While conditions we small with the south swell already fading from earlier in the week, girls still managed to showcase their skills throughout this weekend’s contest. The girls who took the podium for the awards ceremony were greeted on stage by host and professional surfer Rosy Hodge, along 4x World Surfing Champion Lisa Andersen. We have to admit, it’s not a bad reception to receive an award by surfing’s elite. Wouldn’t you agree?

Between surf breaks, the girls took to the beach where the Roxy staff loved hanging with all the competitors and their families. Girls lined the beach for poster signings, got their hair sun and saltwater ready at the Paul Mitchell tent, and kept their skin protected at the Sun Bum tent. There was never a dull moment beachside or in the water and we were lucky to enjoy beautiful sunny weather both days!

Surfing has come a long way and this event gives girls the opportunity to show how far the sport has advanced here in Hawaii. The smiles on all the girls’ faces are what make us truly realize how special the Roxy life is for these young surfer girls.

Don’t forget to check out some pictures from Day 1 and Day 2 of the Roxy Waikiki Classic and see the full list of results below.

Roxy Outdoor Fitness: Get out there Rain or Shine

Get out there, rain or shine. Here’s our favorite Roxy Athlete recommended workouts and a post-workout treat to get outside and enjoy the day, no matter what the weather:

1. Climbing under a roof when it’s raining so I can see the waterfalls – Roxy Outdoor Fitness Rock Climber, Sierra Blair-Coyle.

2. Surfing in the rain is the best because it’s less crowded and I get to use my new Roxy Outdoor Fitness wetsuits. I love breaking out the new suits each season – Roxy Pro Surfer, Rosy Hodge

3. SUP Yoga in the rain to be completely surrounded by water above and beneath – Roxy Outdoor Fitness Athlete, SUP Yoga instructor and owner of Paddle into Fitness, Gillian Gibree

4. Downwind paddling in the rain to feel the drops against my back. – Gillian Gibree

5. Running on the street after a good rain, I love the smell of rain on asphalt – Pro Surfer, Sally Fitzgibbons

6. Mountain biking in the rain because the dirt gets sticky and smooth.  I can hold my line better in critical turns – Roxy Outdoor Fitness Mountain Biker, Karin Kendrick

After your wintery workout, recover and warm up with our all-natural Ginger Mint Tea:

- Grab a handful of fresh mint leaves. Mint is one of the oldest and most popular herbs grown around the world. Its sweet flavor and cooling after sensation also soothes and cleanses the digestive tract, eliminates toxins, reduces blemishes, and keeps your breath nice and fresh!

- Grate about a teaspoon of fresh ginger. From the ancient Chinese to the Romans, ginger has been used for thousands of years to aid digestion and act as an anti-inflammatory. Perfect for a post-workout zing! Try a bath soak with ginger for those achy muscles, cramp prevention, and to soothe your cranky winter skin.

- Just a spoonful of honey…The benefits of honey go beyond its blissfully sweet taste. Honey is known for instantly boosting performance, endurance, and reducing muscle fatigue. Its also a perfect “pick-me-up on a spoon” when you pack it for that extra mile!

- Combine all the ingredients and boil in a full tea kettle.

- Drink hot after a chilly workout, or ice it for refreshing hydration. Feel free to add sliced lemon for extra tang! (Lemons are perfect for that immunity boost in the winter, and cleanse the liver for a great detox boost!

Maldives Surf Trip with Roxy

Playful right-handers and crystal-clear waters—the Maldives almost seems like they were made for our Roxy Surf Team. The tropical paradise has three key surfing zones spanning over 300 miles—that’s 300 miles of pristine point breaks as well as colorful, shallow reefs. Whether it was Sally Fitz slashing a front-hand right, or Kassia Meador dancing on her longboard, the Roxy girls were chasing dreams and catching waves just in time when spring fever set in. They grabbed their spring bikinis for single-fin cruises and reef explorations. Check out a snapshot of their Maldivian adventures.

Get out there, your wave is waiting…#DAREYOURSELF

Roxy Outdoor Fitness: Rosy Hodge’s Tricks of the Trade. Travel & Adventure

Spending more then 10 months on the road living out of a suitcase means having to become adaptable and realizing that even the best set plans are bound to go out the window. It also means if you can relax and go with the flow, you are in for more of an adventure and you can explore the unexpected. If I’m packing for a 3-day trip to Maui, I know I’m going to be surfing, paddling, trail running and bodysurfing. Here are my tips on key pieces you need to pack to be ready for anything.

1. My sports bra needs to double as swimwear that won’t rip off when I’m swimming into a shorey and decide to go for a quick beach run.

2. Pack a light jacket that is rainproof and can pack up tight and small. There is a wind chill when you are crossing on a catamaran from Maui to Molokai, so the Atmosphere jacket is the ideal layer for me.

3. Your clothes are going to get wet and sandy, so have a bag with a waterproof compartment. You want to be able to have fun and not worry about the repercussions of leaving wet socks to rot in your backpack. Toss a dryer sheet into this compartment to keep your clothes and bag smelling fresh. (You can also put them in your wet shoes after a long day).

4. Don’t forget your deodorant, toothbrush and sunscreen!

5. Pack your own trail mix before you head out so you can stay energized for longer. You never know how long you’ll be out, so make sure you fuel up w a high protein snack. Here is one of my favorites:
·      1/4 cup whole shelled (unpeeled) almonds
·      1/4 cup unsalted dry-roasted peanuts
·      1/4 cup dried cranberries
·      1/4 cup chopped pitted dates
·      2 ounce dried apricots, or other dried fruit
·      1/4 cup dark chocolate chips

6. Stay hydrated with fresh water.

Roxy Outdoor Fitness: Rosy Hodge Behind the Scenes

As adventure would have it, team rider, stunt woman, actress, surfer, world traveler, model, fitness enthusiast, and sports commentator – Rosy Hodge has done some of the coolest things and been to some of the most amazing places around the world and she’s daring to do more.

We stole Rosy’s camera from the Roxy Outdoor Fitness shoot in Maui and pulled these gems to give you a little more insight on where these epic images were taken and what it took to get them…

1. Coming in hot at the falls in Maui. We paddled along this bay and right into the cascading waterfall! Beautiful!

3. This was one of the views our heli pilot put us in position for on day 1 of the Roxy Outdoor Fitness Shoot. He was the best at landing in the tightest of spaces.

3. Mount Haleakala sunrise shot. We woke up at 3am to catch this one. The sun rose through the clouds on Maui’s highest peak. A few other people had the same bright idea!

4. Another breathtaking location and a rad place for a trail run in Maui, a swim, a dive, a paddle. There is so much to do in Maui, it’s an amazingly beautiful place!
