Roxy Ride Days: 1st ever Mammoth Mountain stop

Unknown

This past weekend Mammoth Mountain, California was host to the first ever Roxy Ride Days stop in the good ol’ U.S.A. For the past few winters our friends to the North have been operating the Roxy Ride Days series to sold-out crowds all across Canada, so it was about time we brought the camp to American snow. Female shredders from all over California and points beyond flocked to Mammoth for the chance to progress their skills alongside Roxy pro riders and an expert all-girl coach staff in a fun & supportive environment. Our pro snowboard team happily took time out of their busy schedules to join in the fun, including backcountry pow(d)erhouse Robin Van Gyn, Transworld Magazine’s Rookie of the Year winner Corinne Pasela, and Roxy legend Erin Comstock.

After a tasty breakfast and a yoga stretch session the girls broke off into groups and headed up the lifts. The sun shined down on the riders all day as they pushed one another in the soft forgiving snow. While cruising around having fun in the sun, the girls also had the opportunity to sneak-a-peak and demo the future 2013/14 Roxy snowboard line.

In the afternoon everyone participated in games of R-O-X-Y (just like the game H-O-R-S-E), stepping it up on boxes and jumps of various sizes. The winning last-girls-standing included Patty Ho (Beginner Jib Group), Patricia Kent (Intermediate Jib Group), Cassidy Campbell (Intermediate Jump Group), Kaleah Driscoll (Advanced Jib Group) and Janice Spiteri (Advanced Jump Group). The girls rode until the lifts shut down and then gathered at the Roxy base for tunes, hot chocolate, Roxy pro poster signing, and a ton of prize giveaways. Nora Carlsson went home a happy camper as the lucky winner of a Roxy XOXO snowboard and binding combo. Shout out to our friends at Paul Mitchell who helped make the day extra awesome and hooked up the attendees with loads of Paul Mitchell hair products.

All in all the day was a huge success and everyone went home with huge smiles on their faces. If you missed the Roxy Ride Days this year, be sure to join the fun and come ride with us next winter!

Roxy Ride Days: Last Canadian stop at Lake Louise, AB

The Roxy Ride Days cross Canada tour entered it’s fourth and final stop this past Saturday at Lake Louise, Alberta, to a fourth straight sold out crowd of female riders. Riders gathered from all over Alberta to sneak in a few more new tricks before the season ends and for a chance to be mentored by guest coach, and Roxy snowboard legend, Erin Comstock.

Lake Louise is often a highlight stop on the RRD tour because it often delivers Alberta sunshine and a perfectly sculpted terrain park that has been fine-tuned over an entire season. Our group was lucky again. Barely one hour into the day’s program and snowboard jackets were off and faces were being lubed with a variety of fancy full spectrum lotions. The Women’s Snowboard Federation coaches and guest pro Erin Comstock encouraged girls to take advantage of the slushy park conditions and they sure did. Suddenly the Beginner Jump group was trying 360s and the Intermediate Jib group was doing switch front boards! Alberta’s Wild Rose Country license plate mantra came to life and things were turned up just in time for the afternoon game of R.O.X.Y. (based on the rules of H.O.R.S.E. or S.K.A.T.E.). The four riders that received the “fewest letters” were Karol Zalaite (Beginner Jump Group), Cait Smerechinski (Intermediate Jump Group), Kylie Shaw (Intermediate Box Group) and Kristine Tomlinson (Advanced Jib group).

As with the three other RRD stops, there can only be one winner of a shiny new Roxy Ollie Pop snowboard. Drawing names out of a hat left two girls standing and the winner to be determined by a Harlem Shake-off. With Baauer’s track turned up and plenty of heckling from the chair overhead it made for a great spectacle. Way to have fun with it girls! That is a wrap for the ROXY Ride Days Canadian Tour. Next camp is at Mammoth Lakes, California this Saturday April 6 With team rider Robin Van Gyn and Erin Comstock attending. How quickly can you search flights on Kayak.com!?

Roxy Ride Days: The 2nd stop at Mont Avila, Quebec

The Roxy Ride Days cross Canada tour had its second stop this weekend at Mont Avila, near Montreal Quebec, to a sold out crowd of female riders. Upping the excitement were special guest coaches, including: Canadian Roxy rider Joanie Robichaud, recently appointed Transwold Snowboarding’s Rookie of The Year, Corinne Pasela, and legend Erin Comstock. The day began with girls showing off their skills in the pro and progression park where the light snowfall gave everything a pretty coating and cushy landing. The Mont Avila terrain park staff did an incredible job with the progression park and really allowed girls to push their comfort level.

As with every Roxy Ride Day, the camp ends with a game of R.O.X.Y. which is based on the rules of H.O.R.S.E. or S.K.A.T.E. A trick is called and if you cannot land the trick you receive a letter. The process repeats itself until the girl with the least letters is left standing and is crowned the winner. Taking top honors for the Jump was Gabby Kedzierski, Advanced Rail went to Veronique Laramée and Intermediate Rail to Emilie Fillion.
Congratulations to everyone who pushed themselves!

On the topic of prizes, a shiny new Roxy Ollie Pop Snowboard needed to be given away. With the ROXY Outdoor Fitness launching this Spring it seemed fitting to have a push-up battle for the coveted board prize. Several push-ups later there was a clear and muscular winner. Great job Chloe Vo! The next camp is at Grouse Mountain, BC on March 16 followed by Lake Louise, AB on March 30. Start practicing your push-ups and dance moves as you never know what the next snowboard challenge may be.

Sign up for upcoming camps here.

Roxy Ride Days 2013 kicks off at Blue Mountain in Ontario

The Roxy Ride Days kicked off in Blue Mountain, Ontario with a sold out event. The event was capped at 60 riders to ensure a comfortable coach-to-camper ratio. Demo boards were out, music was turned up and the Women’s Snowboard Federation (WSF) and Roxy team riders ensured everyone was progressing.

Roxy team rider Samm Denena was there to push the campers, and rounding out the day was a special guest appearance by Erin Comstock who recently celebrated 10 years with the Roxy team. Girls were lined up for half an hour to get an autograph, but what made Erin even more legendary is that she flew from the west coast on a red eye, drove right to the mountain and coached all day, then immediately flew to another snowboard trip. What a pro!

The day was also special day as it marked the 1 year anniversary of team rider Sarah Burke’s passing. Blue Mountain was her old stomping grounds (with Midland, the town where she grew up, not far away) it seemed most fitting that there would be such a large group of girls on snow, progressing, laughing and supporting each other #CelebrateSarah

Congratulations to Dayna Pinkey (Jump Jam Winner), Logan Sager, Bailey McDonald and Cali Sossia (Jib Jam, Small, Medium and Large Feature Winners).

Give The Gift of Shred: Our favorite Snowboarding Spots

Holiday break is fast approaching, and we can’t wait to pack a bag and head to the mountains for warm-hearted adventures with friends and family. We caught up with our snow team riders to see which mountains are their favorites to visit around the holiday time. What’s yours?

Corinne Pasela says “So my favorite holiday resort is Peek’n Peak, nestled up in Findley Lake, NY. My personal connection to the place comes from learning to ski there early on in life. It was a mellow day trip from Ohio, perfect for our family trips. The main lodge, and all it’s retro greatness, is perfect for a place to warm up during the day or chill for the night. They boast a few terrain parks, some bumps and jumps, but the real fun happens through the trees across their 27 slopes (mellow enough to entertain all skill levels). Plus, the snow is always good! In a nutshell, Peek’n Peak is the best place to ride around my neck of the woods for the holidays because it’s family friendly, easy on the wallet, has good snow, short lift lines, and that good ol’ ma and pa feel. Hip hip for winter!”

Robin Van Gyn is “biased to B.C., but Whistler is like no where else during the Holidays. The village is lit up and the snow droops from all the trees, its a winter wonderland.”

Ty Walker says “My favorite place to ride in the holiday season is Breckenridge in Colorado because the town is so pretty and it looks like something out of a Christmas book, But for the actual holiday I always go home to Stowe, Vermont to spend time with my family.” The newest member of our Amateur team, Jordie Karlinski, also loves Colorado, but she prefers Snowmass resort in Aspen, “during the holidays my whole family is in town and its a great mountain to either ride with my dad and brother or take a hike with with my mom and sister. Friends I grew up with are in town as well, so it’s nice to be able to ride with them.”

Erin Comstock and Torah Bright head to Park City Mountain Resort in Utah because as Torah says, “They have it all… parks, pipes and great terrain! My favorite memories are during the holiday with a group of friends just lapping the mountain on a blue bird day. I Ride Park City!”

SNOW SCRAPBOOK: ADVENTURES IN ALBERTA

Every winter our snow team riders go on epic adventures to distant snowy locales, and at the end of the year we have more photos than we know what to do with. So rather than let those photos hide in a hard drive, we are posting scrapbooks of each trip for the world to see. Check out our first scrapbook documenting a road trip that team riders Torah Bright, Erin Comstock and Robin Van Gyn took to the beautiful mountains of Alberta, Canada. On beautiful bluebird days the girls rode snowmobiles out to hidden areas at Fortress Mountain to find some of the Rockies best powder. After riding they cozied up back at the ranch and partook in the local après with the various four legged ranch dwellers. Adventure is out there, so take a spin through the scrapbook and get inspired for your own winter travels.
