The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs SportsUnited office, in partnership with Roxy, a brand of Quiksilver, is conducting a snowboarding Sports Envoy program in Armenia, March 3-7, 2010. Professional snowboarders and Roxy team riders Amber Stackhouse and Erin Comstock will be the first action sports athletes to be sent abroad as Sports Envoys by SportsUnited.
During their five-day trip, Stackhouse and Comstock will visit Yerevan and Tsaghkadzor. While in Yerevan, the Envoys will meet with middle school students, university film students, and female athletes to discuss the importance of participation in sports for women and girls. In Tsaghkadzor, the Envoys will conduct two snowboard clinics, give a snowboarding exhibition and judge a snowboard cross event.
Stay tuned from blogs from Erin and Amber while on their trip!
This cover shot has really changed my perspective on shooting and skiing. Jony and I didn’t get to the Canyons until 2:15 in the afternoon and the light was horrible. It was early season, so no jumps or rails, only boxes. Regardless, we still decided to head up to see what we could get. We spent 45 minutes shooting with strobes due to the horrible light and late start. Our only option was to shoot the coolest looking box we could find. It’s all about dedication. Dedication from the skier and the photographer. For me it’s loving the sport enough to go out and ski regardless of the conditions. The Roxy outerwear colors pop and I have a smile on my face. Thanks to my Sponsors for the steezy gear : Roxy, Electric, Bern, Skullcandy, DonJoy, Surefoot and The Canyons. Thanks to Jony for the creative cover shot!
The Gatorade Free Flow Finals were on the same course and same weekend as the Dew Tour Finals at Mount Snow. I won second place and Summer Fenton took the win.
It was cool to be at the Dew Tour watching the finals before I competed on Sunday.
Ty Walker and I watched the finals from the bottom of the pipe, they had a whole light show going on, and it was awesome. All the girls were killing it and it was great to be there.
Sunday, was our day to compete, the pipe was awesome but just a little windy. I landed my first run with a backside 5 second hit into a front 3 then cab 3, I was happy with it but wanted to improve my score. My second run I landed a mctwist second hit and went into front side 3 and caught an edge and took a pretty hard fall, it was upsetting because I’ve landed that trick so many times.
Even though I was bummed about falling I still got second and was stoked. Summer stomped both her runs and scored a 92.00 in her second run with a a big stylish indie, backside 540 stalefish and a frontside 540. She was very stoked and was excited all her hardwork paid off.
The next day I saw Kjersti Buass, Chanelle Sladics, Sarka Pancochova and Jaime Anderson in the airport. It was cool because Jaime won the Dew Cup and I saw them compete in the pipe finals.
The Gatorade Free Flow was a fun weekend and a great experience, I’m glad I entered it. See everyone at the Chicken Jam !

Due to the extensive entries from women this year in the Billabong XXL, a renowned big wave contest, they have added an entirely new women’s only category for the event. Roxy’s own Savannah Shaugnessey is in the running for Best Girls Overall Performance Award. Savannah hopes to join the ranks of only two other women to win in this category, Jamilah Star also of Santa Cruz who won the first two years, and Maya Gabeira of Rio de Janeiro Brazil who has won the last three times.

The Bear Mtn Burton AM series was so fun, the sun was out and the weather was great! There were 15 girls and 17 boys in the superpipe contest. Everyone was having fun and riding good. 8 girls went to finals including Roxy girls Summer Fenton and me, Jessi Huege. Summer ended up in 4th place and me in 1st, she also got best trick with a frontside 540 with tail grab. The day was sick, and everyone was pumped.
Kassia and her never-ending creativity has found another outlet for her photography. She was asked to shoot a fashion spread for Foam magazine titled “The Kids are Alright”. Being behind the camera is one of Kassia’s many passions. Check out her work in this months FOAM magazine.
Roxy athletes Sarah Burke and Kjersti Buaas traveled to Utah this past weekend to compete in the second stop of the Dew Tour. Women’s Freeskiing was only given this stop to show the public and the organizers what they were capable of. Sarah, a pioneer in freeskiing and a consummate proponent for expanding women’s place in it, showed up and threw down. In the finals on Saturday after falling on an inverted trick in her first run, she went back up to lay it down right. With all the girls in the finals really upping the amplitude and difficulty of tricks, Sarah needed to combine them all. Landing a 540, 720 and a 900 all with amazing amplitude and style, Sarah pulled off her second Dew Tour win.
Kjersti’s day didn’t pan out like she would have liked today on the women’s slopestyle finals. After getting her Cab 5 down on the first jump and combo-ing into a backside 3, she just couldn’t get her 720 landed off the last jump. After finshing in third in the half pipe in the first Dew Tour stop in Breckenridge, Kjersti still shows her overall skills as a multi talented rider by qualifying for finals in slopestyle at this stop.
Congrats to Sally Fitzgibbons for coming in 5th on her rookie year on the WCT tour. This is a huge success after accomplishing the record of being the fastest man or women to ever qualify for the WCT in the history of the sport. Needless to say, there are tons of great things to come from this young surfer from australia. Read more on surfline.
