There’s no better way to explore an uninhabited shoreline than in a kayak. Pack a few snacks, toss on your Beach Fever Swim Top, throw on some sunscreen, add a hat and cast off. Here are some tips from ROXY Outdoor Fitness ambassador Devon DeMint of The Mermaid Chronicles to help you get the most out of your adventure.
–Observe the wind, ocean currents and tide before you paddle out.
–Start by paddling in to the wind at the beginning. This way you can tackle the more difficult part of the journey when you have the most energy and ride with the wind on your way back.
–Don’t rely solely on your arms to paddle. Make sure you rotate your torso while engaging your core as you paddle. This will help you propel the kayak with your whole body and get in a good core workout at the same time.
–For a more intense workout, incorporate interval training into your outing. Paddle at full power for two minutes, then coast with your momentum. Rest and repeat.
–Finally, don’t forget to take in the surroundings. It’s not every day that a workout is this scenic!
