The Roxy Snow Team Takes a Trip to Mervin Manufacturing

Winter is here; ski hills are opening, flakes are falling, and the Roxy snow team is gearing up for a new season of adventures.  But before jumping full-on into winter travels, Torah Bright, Erin Comstock and Robin Van Gyn took the time to stop in at the Seattle, WA offices of Mervin Manufacturing (where Roxy snowboards are designed) to check out the future snowboard line at the annual Roxy, Gnu, and Lib Tech snowboard summit.  Each of the team riders discussed their brand new snowboards and how they are each involved in the design and construction of the snowboards – pretty cool huh! While at the office they were kind enough to stop by the photo copier and create something for the Roxy/Mervin crew to remember them by!

After hanging out at the office and stirring up a little bit of trouble the  team headed back to the mountains– to their real “day jobs”– where office chairs are chairlifts, board meetings are park laps with friends, and time cards are season’s passes.

Behind the Scenes: Mammoth Mountain Winter Photo Shoot

Picturesque blue skies, a comfortable cool outside, and gorgeous clothes help set the mood while wandering the mountains of  June & Mammoth Lakes, California for the Roxy Winter 2011 photo shoot.

This cold weather season we’re feeling inspired to ‘kill the chill’, so whether you’re in a cold region or you’re just sitting by a beach bonfire after a cool morning of surf, Winter is a time to pile on some easy layers.

Roxy Team Rider and professional snowboarder, Torah Bright is familiar with this Roxy way of life. Scroll through some of the behind the scenes pictures and see how she embraces the casual beach lifestyle even in the cold of Winter. We’re thinking chunky knits scarves and beanies, sherpa lined fleece hoodies, utility boots, flannel trimmed bags, Nordic motifs and more…

These behind the scenes shots show us how the girls layer-up, bundle-up, and let’s face it, get-up for some early mornings to shoot the Roxy Winter line- with the help of the fabulous photographers, stylists, and Roxy crew, of course!

Cheers to Winter…bring on the layers!  Start shopping Winter HERE!

Torah Bright: So Long Spring…

Pretty sunset at home in AUS. Going to miss you!

After a couple action packed weeks in New Zealand riding the pipe and jumps and airbags up at Snow Park everyday I’m back in OZ for a quick family fix before heading back north for the start of that winter season. So for the past few days I’ve been drinking it all in.

Hanging out with my nieces, going on bush walks and getting styled by my little sister. She’s my hair stylist, I know I know, a long way to go to get your hair done but she’s amazing and worth the trip!

Definitely going to miss this place and the long Australian summers but am also getting really excited for winter to start hammering us with pow!

Cheers, Torah

Torah Bright: Spring in New Zealand

another perfect day at Snow Park

I’ve been down in New Zealand for a few weeks now, and spring is by far the best season to be here. We’ve been enjoying Snow Park’s pipe and park set up in a near privacy. Long days of  amazing riding and great spring conditions. Scotty James been landing doubles all over the place and I’ve been working a few things myself ;) And the best part is, unlike winter where you could end up sitting in the lodge waiting out flat light and howling wind, spring is much milder and we’ve only had one down day due to wind. I hear it’s been snowing in Park City and Mammoth, getting excited for winter powder days but am going to enjoy the southern hemisphere spring for a little while longer!

Torah Bright: Back in New Zealand

Scotty James, Benny and I at TC.

After a few fun weeks in the states, I’m back in the southern hemi for round two of winter. Well, actually springtime. I’m back in Wanaka with my brother Benny and fellow Aussie Scotty James to ride for the last bit of spring shredding. So far so good. We’ve been having heaps of fun in Wanaka, riding at Treble Cone and Snowpark and just being back in the scene. Cardrona is hosting private halfpipe and airbag sessions the first two weeks of October so a bunch of the international riders are also making their way back to New Zealand for slushie spring pipes and jumps before winter starts up again in the northern hemisphere. Should be fun to ride with everyone again!

Torah Bright: HP Commercial

I’m really excited that the new HP ePrint campaign has launched and the commercial is playing in Australia and NZ.   Have a look and let me know what you think!

The whole campaign was a lot of fun to shoot and I’m getting a lot of use from my printer lately – whoever thought I’d be able to send stuff from my phone to my mum’s printer on the other side of the world… Oh and I love love love that my mum has a cameo in the commercial! Hope you enjoy the commercial as much as I do and stay posted for more….there are a few versions in the mix.

Cheers! Torah

Torah Bright: On The Road Again

One of the many highlights from the last few months…Art of Flight Premiere

People always think that summer is the “off season” for snowboarders but I feel like I’ve been on the go more than ever these past few months. From Australia to New Zealand to Mt. Hood to New York and finally home for a few days of chill time before I head back out for more photo shoots in LA and another trip down under. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind but heaps of fun snowboarding, photo shoots with the Roxy girls, The Art of Flight premiere, watching Owen Wright battle Kelly Slater at the Quik Pro and sitting court side for a Federe match at the US Open. But honestly, home is such a luxury these days that these past few days home has been the real highlight. There really is no place like home to recharge and reboot for another round of adventures. I’m hoping these last few days did the trick….here we go again!

Torah Bright: New York, New York

For the past few days I’ve been living up in New York. I flew here from our Roxy catalog shoot in Oregon, where we spent 12 plus hours a day shooting all of the products in the line. Exhausting, but it was good preparation for a couple crazy days in the city that never sleeps! Since I’ve been here, I’ve been hanging tough with the Roxy girls, mainly my fellow Aussie and surfing ripper, Sally Fitzgibbons.

All glammed up for The Art of Flight premiere! Thanks Stila for the make overs!

We’ve been hanging at the Roxy Beach house, watching the Quiksilver Pro and last night, we headed out to see the premiere of Travis Rice’s The Art of Flight. The movie literally gave me goose bumps it was so amazing; the cinematography, the riding and the riders! Travis, Jeremy Jones, Scotty Lago and Jake Blauvelt have me all inspired to get back out there and keep filming for my movie project!

Red Carpet interview with MTV News…”Umm, Yes I’m excited for the film”

And speaking of inspiring stuff, I just finished watching the finals of the Quiksilver Pro NY. Watching Kelly Slater and Owen Wright battle it out in front of an enthusiastic crowd was intense! I left there speechless but totally stoked for Owen, way to get the win and go out there blazing! Wonder what he’s going to do with his $300,000 prize!

Torah Bright: Adventures in OZ

The kids I rode with at Perisher! Fun day!

I’ve been back in Australia for a week and a half and have managed to do a million and one things. I spent some solid time at Perisher with Jake and the local crew there, had some sunny spring days riding the newly named “Bright’s Pipe” and we even lucked out with a powder day in the gum trees. Fun times!

Powder day and snowboarding amongst the gum trees!

Went to Sydney to shoot the cover for Women’s Health magazine and to Melbourne for the autograph signings and the Chalet Girl movie premiere. Which I highly recommend!! But my favorite part of this whirlwind trip home was hanging out up at Mt. Hothem with the Roxy sales reps and getting to teach Sally Fitzgibbons how to snowboard. It was so much fun and she totally rips! Hopefully someone snagged some video clips so I can share them with you. Legend! Can’t wait for our surf trip so she can teach me a thing or two in return!

Sally and I after our shred session!

Torah Bright: Stuck in New Zealand

Stuck in Queenie!

After an amazing trip to New Zealand and days of lapping the park up at Snow Park with Scotty James, Jake, and Benny, I got ready to head back to Australia only to get trapped in Queenstown. This storm is turning out to be the storm of the decade or century for New Zealand with cancelled flights for days and days. Not a bad place to be trapped, but when you’re ready to go you’re ready to go. So, after delays and canceled flights, I’ve finally made it back home to Cooma and am in sunny Perisher for a few days before I head down to Melbourne for the Chalet Girl movie. Busy, busy but it’s nice to be home relaxing with the fam.

Perisher’s Pipe…

In other Bright family news, my brother and coach, Benny won the NZ World Heli Challenge. He’s such and amazing rider and it was so much fun to be a part of his win. Yeah Benny! Check out his winner’s interview here!
