We’re feeling completely refreshed after watching episode 2 of the Roxy Refreshments. In this episode you’ll see Team Riders Torah Bright, Erin Comstock, Kjersti Buaas, and Aimee Fuller on an epic team trip to Revelstoke and Retallack Lodge, British Columbia – we’re still at home wishing we could partake in this snowy adventure. Watch as these girls take a heli-ride, make their own jumps, get warm by the fire and have a few goofy moments along the way. Did we mention the music alone makes us want to get up and ride. Add this to your next pow playlist: Hesta Prynn Le Cox Aux Folles.
What do you do to keep your face protected on the mountain?
I wear a neck warmer, Roxy makes some really nice ones that you can hide from the cold with style. And I also use SPF 25 sunscreen.
What item do you consider your must-have on the hill?
Music. My phone or a shuffle. I put a good playlist on so I can jam out. Everything from really cruise-y music to upbeat. Music inspires me to try something that I’m scared of.
Tell us something that would surprise us about yourself?
I use a reusable glass coffee mug with a glass straw to protect my teeth from the coffee staining.
@ajuthe asked: What’s your favorite part about snowboarding? and what is your fav trick? i’m going to guess air to fakie in the pipe!
I love air-to-fakies. But now my favorite trick is a backside 5 on a jump, it feels really good in the air.
@adribbby asked: How do you manage to snowboard so long without freezing?!
I wear wool first layers, even wool underwear. Growing up in Norway I learned a lot about this. They even have bras made of wool. Don’t use cotton because that will make you colder. Roxy has a lot of good fleece options. And foot warmers, the ones with the rechargeable batteries are good.
@ibisssx3 asked: Where’s you favorite place to snowboard at?
Wherever there’s good snow. I like the Breckenridge and Keystone parks, and Tahoe and Northstar is great in the spring. Norway has some cools spots, and Japan for powder.
@kiranapiranha asked: If you couldn’t snowboard for a living, what would you be doing instead?
I would be a teach of some sort. I love kids and I like to teach people things. …And if I could choose a talent, I would be a singer or a rockstar…but I don’t have that talent.
@sj4569 asked: Hey what’s your favorite thing to do when your not snowboarding?
I love to watch movies. Old ones and new ones. In the Christmas spirit, Love Actually is a really good one. I also like to shoot photos, edit photos, edit movies, all kinds of media stuff. And I love to play my ukelele. I’m not very good yet, but everyday I’m learning. I’m learning Christmas songs now, on the uke.

Over the weekend our girl Kjersti Buaas won 2nd place in the slopestyle event and 6th place in the halfpipe at the first stop of the Global Open series in New Zealand. This contest marks the beginning of the new 2011/12 winter competition season, so Kjersti is off to a great start! Here’s a few words from Kjersti about the event:
“My best run in the slopestyle event consisted of: 360 tap, 50-50 to backside boardslide, 50-50 to bs. 180 off the pole jam, cab 540 indy, fs. 720 mute and a fs 360 stalefish. The course and weather stayed perfect, actually the best conditions I have ever ridden here.
The next morning in the halfpipe event I tried some good old air-to-fakies in practice, but I was mainly focusing on pacing my energy, since I was running on fumes. The finals started and the first contest run that went down made everybody on the top go; wooohhhh! Spanish rider Queralt Castellet dropped in and did the biggest bs. 900 I have ever seen from a girl and set the standard for the rest of the day.
I was inspired by the American mafia, Kelly, Gretchen, Elena and Hannah, that did not disappoint! fs and bs 900′s, cab 720 and huge airs went down left and right. I aso surprised myself and landed a good run, witch earned me 6th place out of 8th riders in the finals. I also won the creative use of space award, for my air-to-fakie on the first hit, something that I feel very honored to win.
Big thanks to my sponsors, Roxy, Monster, DNB Nor and KAB for the amazing support. Special thanks to “coach of the week”, One Life team captain Chanelle Sladics for holding it down! -KJ”

I’ve had a whirlwind few weeks, heading straight to Seattle from Australia for our first Roxy team factory tour at Mervin Manufacturing. Robin, Kjersti and I spent the day checking out the first round of production for the 12/13 line (which by the way, looks amazing!) followed up by an autograph signing at the Quik store in downtown.
The Gang
The Quik store styled us out with personalized sushi rolls, mine was complete with Vegimite…of course. Such a great couple of days with Kjesti, Robyn and the people from Quik and Mervin! Thanks to everyone for coming out!
Roxy snowboarder Kjersti Buaas has joined a snowboard gang that’s all about spreading the philosophy of peace, love and locally grown organic food. They call themselves One Life as sort of a reminder that we each only get one and they are damned well going to live their’s to the fullest. While the One Life girls really do mean well, they are perhaps best known within snowbaording for throwing water balloons at innocent bystanders, slapping people, and other not-so-nonviolent forms of protesting the general status quo. Regardless of what they really do stand for, they are pretty entertaining to watch, a bit like a softer, all girls version of Jackass mixed with some sweet snowboarding.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be posting all of the One Life episodes, like this one here where the girls adventure to the Roxy Chicken Jam.
Last week in at the U.S.Open of snowboarding at Statton, Vermont Kjersti Buaas solidified her reputation as the most well rounded woman in snowboard competition. She finished top five in slopestyle and half pipe and won the rail jam. That’s right, I said she won the rail jam. To any of you who are familiar with Kjersti’s career, she’s never actually been that into riding rails. But this was no ordinary rail set-up, Stratton brought out the big (snow) guns and built a four story architectural wonder, complete with 4 rail set-ups, 2 quarter pipes and a massive hip– so for a girl who excels in both pipe and slope, this was a dream situation. Kjersti threw down rail combos, big air-to-fakies on the quarters and a huge and and stylish frontside 540 stalefish on the hip to put her the top of the podium.
Kjersti’s versatility also landed her on one more podium last week. She garnered 3rd place in the overall 2011 Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour. Way to go Kjersti, we’re very proud of you!
In related news, 11 year old Roxy team rider, Maddie Mastro won 2nd place in the U.S. Open Junior Jam. This was Maddie’s first trip out east, traveling all the way from Wrightwood, CA, and it was well worth the effort.
See both Kjersti and Maddie ride next week at the Roxy Chicken Jam in Mammoth, CA!
Meet our friend Ms. Superpark. She only comes around once a year, and we’re never really sure where she’s going to pop up, but she’s not to be missed. Snowboard girls travel the distance to hang with the Ms.’s, partly because she attracts the snowboard paparazzi, is a snob for well built jumps, and promotes good snowboarding, but mostly because she’s just so much fun. So if you’ve never been properly introduced, just check this video. Roxy.com/snow
A lot like elementary school recess, the best part about snowboarding is spending time with friends playing outside. Roxy team rider, Kjersti Buaas, has made a career of this lifestyle, traveling around the world snowboarding with friends, filming video parts and winning contests. With some of her best friends she started One Life, an all girl snowboard crew that lives every minute in the moment- kind of like that popular girl clique on the playground, but a whole lot friendlier and fun loving. In this episode of the Roxy Refreshments, Kjersti and the One Life crew head to Tahoe to live their dream. If you like what you see, follow more of the One Life way of life on Snowboardermag.com’s One Life Wednesdays. And remember, recess is not just for second graders, so take a break and we’ll see you in the mountains!
I went to Austria in January for the European Roxy Chicken Jam to see what the girls were rocking this season. So if you’re needing some inspiration before you go out on the mountain, watch this.
After making it through Winter X snowboarding slopestyle qualifiers on Saturday, Roxy rider Kjersti Buaas was one of a select group of six girls to advance on to the final. Luckily a looming storm held off just long enough for sunny skies and smooth corduroy conditions for Sunday’s main event . Some of the highlights of the contest include Kjersti’s stylish frontside 360 stalefish, Jenny Jone’s flawless frontside 720 indy and Janna Meyen’s cab 900 attempt (she came down just a little backseat). Unfortunately Kjersti over rotated her frontside 720 and missed the podium by one spot, but on the bright side her over rotation was so smooth that I’m pretty sure she’ll be landing front 900s very soon (maybe even a 1080?). All in all, the event was strong showing of the progression of women’s snowboarding slopestyle- keep it up ladies!
