The 2011 Chicken Jam is over and done with. Not exactly the weather we’d hoped for but I had so much fun to riding powder with the girls. The last night we went out to see Trouble and La Roux play up at Canyon lodge and ended up dancing the rest of the night away at The Hyde Lounge. Not a bad way to end an amazing weekend. Holy cow, there are a lot of good girl snowboarders out there! Seriously, I used to be a pro, and the game is getting fierce. Just check out all of the action going on over at the Shooting Star Youtube page, it’s pretty impressive. It was really hard for us to select a winner this week because the girls are all riding so strong. But after much deliberation, the winning video of the week belongs to Alice Gorton of Richmond, British Columbia. She impressed us with her skills and pushed it over the edge with her smooth style.

Shout-outs are also due to Danika Duffy and Zoe Mayers, who both tied for a close 2nd. We’ll be sending them extra swag to commend their efforts. Because we’re so stoked on all of the video submissions, in addition to the $1,000 and Roxy snowboard and bindings set up that will go to the overall winner on April 5th, we’ve come up with a bunch of more Roxy product to give away to runner ups. Meet our friend Ms. Superpark.  She only comes around once a year, and we’re never really sure where she’s going to pop up, but she’s not to be missed.  Snowboard girls travel the distance to hang with the Ms.’s, partly because she attracts the snowboard paparazzi, is a snob for well built jumps, and promotes good snowboarding, but mostly because she’s just so much fun.  So if you’ve never been properly introduced, just check this video.  Roxy.com/snow

It’s a wintertime mecca for deep snow with a lawless old west charm that makes it arguably the most legit mountain town in the US- but beware, it is not for the faint of heart. Last New Years Eve, while most of us were likely celebrating with friends at a noisy party, Roxy teamrider Erin Comstock boarded a plane and sped into the New Year, crossing time zones and international datelines, and touching down in the frozen city of Helsinki, Finland to kick off her season of filming with a bang. In near round the clock darkness and below freezing temps, Erin battled the elements, and with a little help from her friends, she had her most successful and fun trip to date. Erin and myself have had an action packed week in Vancouver. Our first day here we toured the city with Sarah and Robin via the Roxy RV shop tour extravaganza. Our second day, after a week of bus touring, we were long over due for some snow time and hopped in the RV to Whistler. After shredding we drove back to the city and had the fortune of eating at the best Ramen noodle soup house I have tasted this side of the Pacific (I forget the name, but it’s on Denman and Alberni, and you should go there).
It’s hard for me to imagine a day topping the combination of riding and ramen, but alas day 3 in Vancouver did just that. Erin and I went riding at Mount Seymour with the winners of a Roxy contest (Hi Jamie and Casey!). The hill was clouded by a dense fog for most of the morning, but we had so much fun that in good time we shredded the fog away. Looking down a sparkly Vancouver and the bay is another must do, so get your butts to British Columbia!

Road trips are always an adventure, especially when you are headed somewhere exciting. Last week myself, Erin, Robin, hardgoods designer Kyre, and our very own chauffeur, Travis, boarded the Roxy RV in Denver and hit the road to Vancouver.  On the way we stopped at our favorite shops armed with gifts of cupcakes, beer, and Roxy goods. Here are some of the highlights:
