Roxy Surfers Tatiana Weston-Webb and Meah Collins dominated the Surfing America USA Championships 2012 for the second year in a row. Both girls took junior surfing to a whole new level. Tatiana defended both her USA titles from last year—Under 16 and Under 18—and claimed them once again, earning herself the prestigious California Governor’s Cup Award. Last year, Meah Collins took the title in the Under 12 division. This year she stepped it up, claiming the Under 14 title, and finishing third Under 16, securing herself a spot on the USA Team.

Other honorable mentions include Roxy Surfers Maluhia Kinimaka, who took 4^th in the Under 16 final, and Nikki Viesins, who surfed her way to semi-finals. Watch the highlights here and support the Roxy Surf Team this week at the NSSA National Championships at Huntington Beach Pier!

Striking the North American scene like a lightning bolt with their epic 2009 LP Post-Nothing, Japandroids are a true force of nature. The Vancouver-bred duo of Brian King (guitar/vocals) and David Prowse (drums/vocals) continue to mold a sound that’s unnaturally colossal, drawing on the grandiosity of early 1970s Who, the buzzsaw ferocity of Hüsker Dü, punk-pop’s endless fascination with youth and the glorification of it…and of course, a healthy dose of Canadian humility. On the heels of Post-Nothing‘s success, the band put out three scorching singles in 2010, then took their time last year to craft a proper full-length follow-up. We have a pile of reasons to get behind this band, and the fact that the newly released LP is called Celebration Rock — and better yet, that it lives up to its name — may top the list.

Just when you’d packed away the snow gear and dusted off the beach chairs, we’re here to remind you that the best of the snow season has only just begun on the snowy volcano of Mt. Hood, Oregon. Introducing the third of four shorts before the Surf film FREQUENCIES, a collaborative effort between director Bruce Muller, photographer Sonny Miller, and Roxy team rider and famed longboarder Kassia Meador, debuts.

Roxy was lucky enough to catch the screening of the film at Sonos Studios in Los Angeles, where ESP performed the original sound scoring live to a packed audience. Ever since, we’ve been anxiously anticipating the chance to share the third short entitled ‘Dissonance’ with all of our Roxy fans.

In the collaborators’ own words, “There is a seemingly chaotic disorder in the world. At all times we are absorbing a myriad of competing frequencies. Electromagnetic, sound, seismic, and ocean waves reverberate all around us…The magnitude of these effects are massive. Some frequencies are incalculable. Certain energies are immeasurable. The collective neurosis of man cannot sustain.”

We couldn’t be more excited for this month’s release of Fawn‘s debut album, Coastlines. Combining the driving post-punk energy of Interpol and Editors with a vocal style similar to the Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, this Detroit band is poised to make their mark on the national indie scene. The album’s title, incidentally, is a sly reference to North America’s overlooked third shores: those of the massive Great Lakes adjacent to Fawn’s Michigan home.

We are proud to announce the winners of the Let The Sea Set You Free contest.  Though the winners are from different locales, they share a similar stoke and love for the water, arts and fashion. Americas winner Katie McLean describes herself as being “infused with a love for surf and street cultures and a desire to create [her] own path”.  Her expression spans from art to fashion to singing.  Also a musician, Roxy’s European winner Emilie Layla Lovaine sees life as “one great adventure.”  Roxy’s Asia-Pacific winner Madison Setiawan encourages girls everywhere to “dare to dream.”

All three girls will be able to express their inspiring vision through Roxy’s platforms and share their creativeness with Roxy’s social media fan base. We set out on a journey to Let The Sea Set Us Free, by learning what makes each of you a Roxy Girl.  Looking back on the countless videos, photos, quotes, faces, languages, and experiences, we’ve come out more inspired, more free, and more alive than we could have ever dreamed.

The Sea has given us all something to connect with, something greater than ourselves.  We met thousands of like-minded Roxy girls from around the world and we encourage each of you to reach out and share your love for the sea with each other. Your courage and dreams have inspired us beyond words,  and for that we are humbled, happy and forever inspired by every Roxy girl who we’ve connected with along the way.

Three winners will be announced tomorrow, June 19^th,  and we are excited to share their amazing story with all of you.

Immediately catapulted into the spotlight when their “Sleepyhead” single made the rounds back in 2009, the boys in Passion Pit are back, just over three years later with a new album. They’ve taken a somewhat different path from their peers in bands such MGMT, becoming a little weirder but also a little more personal at the same time. Singer Michael Angelakos still rips with his falsetto and the beats still bang with equal parts sunshine and thunder. We’ve heard a couple songs off the new album – Gossamer, which drops on July 24th – and we think it’s going to be a great soundtrack for our summer.
