If you ask us, one-of-a-kind swim pieces, DIY crafts, tunes by DJ Love Fingers and artisanal cocktails are the perfect way to wrap up a busy work week and spend a Saturday evening.
Last month, Lookout & Wonderland’s founding artist Niki Livingston showcased her capsule collection of 100 one-of-a-kind, organic indigo-dyed bathing suits that were created in collaboration with Roxy swim designers.
We hosted a launch party at Shelter Half, a unique artisan marketplace in Los Angeles, to celebrate the collaboration complete with an indigo dye workshop, live music and craft cocktails.
The Midnight Swim collection blends shades of shadowy indigo – the perfect compliment for endless summer days and nights spent at the beach. We enjoyed a runway presentation of the new line and then snacked, danced and sipped on cocktails while having fun creating our own DIY indigo-dyed mobiles. Hemp string, dyed pieces of canvas and some sticks are all you need!
We spoke with Cynthia Son, a ROXY designer to get the inside scoop behind the Lookout & Wonderland x ROXY collaboration.
ROXY: What was the inspiration behind the collaboration?
Cynthia: The inspiration behind Midnight Swim was sparked from a concept from our swim designer Breanna Marston for our upcoming swim line. The underlying themes were a late night swim that evokes blue & black indigo inky patterns that feel like a summer night! Based on the beautiful hand dyed shibori technique used by Niki Livingston, we knew that her dynamic style mixed with indigo dyed patterns would be the perfect collaboration for ROXY!
ROXY: Will we see more collaborations like this for ROXY Swim in the future? Will indigo dyed product be available in larger quantities in the future?
Cynthia: For now the collection is a one-of-a-kind run of 100 pieces that will only be available exclusively at Shelter Half. There are a couple upcoming collaborations we’re pretty excited about! Stay tuned to see what we’re planning for Spring 2015!
ROXY: We know what indigo is a hot trend right now. What other trends do you see taking off with swimwear in the next few months?
Cynthia: Indigo is definitely a BIG trend right now. Our design team is currently focusing on experimenting with different textures, space dyed fabrics, cut outs & seamless details.
