Hello from the Roxy Pro in Australia!

By nicc | Published March 2nd, 2010

We’re currently at Snapper Rocks on Australia’s Gold Coast for the 2010 Roxy Pro, and  between the surfing and the fashion, everyone’s been really busy!

Round 2 of the season-opening Roxy Pro has been completed in 1-metre waves at Snapper Rocks this morning.  Through to Round 3 includes Peru’s Sofia Mulanovich, Brazil’s Bruna Schmitz, Australia’s Chelsea Hedges and New Zealand’s Paige Hareb. For more on the surfing, including heats on demand and all the results, check out www.roxypro.com.au.

Fashion also forms a big part of the Roxy Pro.  COSMOPOLITAN Fashion Director Nicole Adolphe has been our Guest Editor on the Roxy Pro Blog. Here’s what she had to say:

“Wet weather conditions meant many of the fashionista’s stayed hiding indoors this morning but I did manage to pick out a few gems from the crowd. Flat shoes go without saying, ballet flats, sandals or thongs are the way to go. Fedora’s were the hat of choice (great way to keep your hair looking good in the rain) with other accessories being bright sports watches, cool printed scarves and long necklaces.

You can’t beat denim and that’s one of the biggest trends we are seeing on the catwalks right now (think double denim in the Chloe S/S 2010 show) so I wasn’t surprised to see girls rocking out in denim on denim chambray shirts and shorts. T-shirts, singlets and sundresses were the norm on the beach but on the cooler end of the spectrum were jumpsuits – easy and comfy but not too overdone for a surf comp.”

HUGE congrats also goes out to Roxy Team Rider, Laura Enever, who picked up a Junior World Champion trophy at the ASP Ball!

Check out our favorite pics from the Roxy Pro (so far!) and keep up to date with all the surf and fashion at www.roxypro.com.au and the Roxy Pro Blog.  If you just happen to be lucky enough to be near Australia’s Gold Coast, drop by and say hi!

A Day in the Life of Cindy!

By Jennifer Andrews | Published March 1st, 2010

A Day in the Life of… The One and Only Cindy B:
ROXY’S RAD CAMPAIGN MANAGER

Job Title/Description of what you do:
I am Roxy’s Campaign Manager. I work in the marketing department and help manage all of our brand messaging to make sure it is consistently carried throughout all channels (print advertising, in-store creative, online advertising, roxy.com, etc.). ‘Hello Summer’ is our next campaign coming soon! I also manage our large scale partnerships such as the one we have with JBL headphones, and our Design a Roxy Bikini promotion with Schick Quattro for Women (coming May 3rd!)

Time worked at ROXY:
6 years! Crazy to think I started out as an intern over 6 years ago.

Fav part of working for ROXY:
All of the friends I have made along the way!  This company is full of intelligent, creative, inspiring individuals who make coming to work not such a bad thing.  I grew up wearing Roxy every single day in high school and to now be working for a brand whose lifestyle I truly appreciate is amazing.

Style Icon/Style Inspiration:
There are too many to name!  Love, love, love Rachel Bilson, MK&A Olson, Sienna Miller.  And I’m inspired by anything Chanel, fashion mags, vintage stores, trips to New York….

Go-To Fashion Item or Outfit right now:
‘Twiggy’ legging jeans by James Jeans!  I have them in dark denim and black.  They are so so comfy and cute.  Obsessed.

Advice to Readers:
In life:  Take chances, try new things, challenge others, get to know people and most of all, enjoy life!
Career:  Do well in school, think outside the box, get an internship (or 2 or 3) in a field not just for experience but to make sure it’s something you can/want to do for the rest of your life. I thought I wanted to be a broadcast journalist for the longest time until I got an internship at Fox News. I loved it but quickly realized that career path wasn’t for me.
Fashion: Wear whatever makes you feel happy!  Who cares what others think?

Exciting Upcoming Projects:
Fall and Holiday 2010 campaigns!  Seems so far away but it will be here before we know it.

Thanks Cindy! Check back next month for another Roxy superstar!

Caught in the Act of Wearing Roxy…Jenny!

By Jennifer Andrews | Published February 23rd, 2010

I stealthily snapped a picture of Jenny stylin’ in new arrival, Jump Higher. I particularly like the way she layered it with a tank for times when it’s a little too early to be rocking a more crop- style top (like now…in freezing February…). So cute!

Free Music Download of the Week: Queens Club “Nightmarer”

2/23-3/1 Queens Club “Nightmarer”
Put your dancin’ shoes on ladies and gents, introducing: Queens Club. This rock quartet hails from Kansas City, Missouri and we just can’t seem to get enough of their latest EP, Nightmarer. The energy of this band has been compared to the likes of Bloc Party, even Franz Ferdinand.

Nightlife – The Soft Pack, The…

Bio: For a band whose lineup has only really been cemented this year, The Soft
Pack – formerly known as the Muslims – have already accomplished a breathtaking amount. Born and bred in San Diego but currently based in LA, the quartet, which features Matt Lamkin on vocals, co-founder Matty
McLoughlin on guitar, David Lantzman on bass and Brian Hill on drums, create a fresh, razor-sharp, no-frills sound that draws in influences from acts as varied as the Stooges, Jonathan Richman, Wire and The Velvet Underground, resulting in fiercely infectious, stripped-down songs which have eagle-eyed A&R types and critics alike falling over themselves with praise. Proof that the band have well and truly arrived was their frenzied reception at this year’s CMJ, as they played 11 packed out shows at a range of venues, from intimate places like Pianos and Don Pedro’s to larger venues like Williamsburg Music Hall and the Bowery Ballroom. Adulatory pieces in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Fader and Billboard quickly followed suit, as did hotly coveted support slots with the likes of the Last Shadow Puppets and the Breeders this fall.

In addition, their untitled 12-inch debut EP (which came in one of a kind
jackets with bullet holes shot through by the father of a friend, a former
NYC cop) sold out almost immediately and is being re-pressed this year,
complete with brand new tracks, hand typed inserts and silk screened
sleeves. And excitingly enough, the UK will get their first blast of the Soft Pack’s potent rock and roll when their double A-side, “Nightlife/Bright Side” is released through Caspian Records in February 2009, with their debut UK shows to follow; the very first of which, in fact, is for the famed NME Brats. The perfect opportunity to listen to these perfectly formed mini-classics in waiting and get acquainted with the sound of the Soft Pack before the rest of the world inevitably does…
