For 5 seasons now our ever so talented snow team rider, Torah Bright, has had the opportunity to design her own winter collection: Roxy Bright Edition. Torah has impeccable taste, so this is a dream come true for both Torah and Roxy. Every year we are impressed with Torah’s approach; she finds inspiration in the most unusual places, and the results are quite spectacular. For 2013 her inspiration is an alluring mix of romantic, gothic florals and the sun burnt deserts of her Australian childhood. We love the combination of the brandywine Bluff jacket with the cavern grey floral Birch pants with her Eminence snowboard.
Some of you may have noticed a new face in the Roxy ranks, so today we’d like to officially introduce you to Corinne Pasela, the newest member of the Roxy pro snow team. Corinne came out of nowhere in March of 2011 and won the first ever Roxy Shooting Star video contest with a video that made the pros jealous. Corinne hails from Ohio, where she learned to ride at Boston Mills Brandywine (elevation 240 ft.) and then took her skills to the streets (literally) and rode handrails with a group of guy friends. A self proclaimed “soft spoken” person, Corinne may be quiet, but where words are lacking her riding does the talking. Last year we sent Corinne on as many filming trips as possible, and it paid off; she stacked up enough bangers to earn herself a full video part– pretty impressive for a rookie! We asked Corinne about her first year filming with Roxy, and this is what she had to say:
“Unexpectedly, in February, I traveled to Quebec where some 10 days were spent filming and shooting with the raddest group of people ever… It was my favorite trip, mainly because I lived it on the edge of my comfort zone. I learned a lot, and like that I still have a lot to learn. After that we traveled through Utah, California, Whistler, and Alaska. I had to keep reminding myself it was real. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunities to progress and the people I could share them with.”
Check out her full part here, the 2nd video in the Roxy + Peepshow Films collaboration series, Wanderlust.
It’s a brave new winter! Today we’ve launched a new snow site, so be sure to sneak a peek. We’re also excited to unveil a new collab video series with the ladies over at Peepshow Films. This talented filmmaking duo, June Bhongjan and Esthera Preda, met at a snowboard contest in 2008 and bonded over their love for filming, fashion, and snowboarding. They teamed up and created 2 successful films that documented women’s snowboarding the way that it really goes down, with creative verve and progressive riding. Always a supporter of women who are working to redefine the sport, Roxy proposed to join forces and apply Peepshow’s unique vision to Roxy’s team of talented riders. The result is “Wanderlust”, an inspiring collection of videos that roam from urban obstacles to the backcountry, from pipe to park, and showcase the depth and diversity of the Roxy team with a fresh new eye. Follow the series here.
Every month we look forward to picking up the latest issue of Nylon Magazine and this month we were stoked to see the beautiful and talented brunette Lea Michele on the cover – everything about her auburn hair screams Fall…a lot like our Coastal Cove Pinterest Board.
Flipping through the pages we were even more excited when we stumbled upon another brunette and artistic beauty who happens to be near and dear to our hearts – Emilie Layla Lovaine, who as you may know is our European Let The Sea Set You Free winner who hails from Wales and runs her own inspiring blog Flock.
On her recent trip to the Roxy Pro in Biarritz, France with the other Let The Sea Set You Free winners, Emilie wowed us with her voice, overall coolness and big heart (lots of hugs).
Here’s a short behind the scenes video of Emilie singing at the recording studio at Roxy Headquarters in France. Don’t forget to grab the latest Nylon Mag on stands now!
We’re sure you’ve heard of the rock band “Switchfoot”, but what you might not know about them is their passion for surfing and the culture that goes with it. Growing up in sunny San Diego, the members of the band have been surfing their entire lives and get involved in the sport whenever they can. Still not convinced of their love of surf? Just look at their name… it actually refers to the pretty fancy footwork on your board when you switch your feet and change direction.
So when we were asked to premiere their exclusive live performance video of “The War Inside”, we were happy to support the cause!
Check out Switchfoot’s behind-the-scenes video from their episode of Guitar Center Sessions for the first time right here…
As Summer comes to a close and Fall rolls in so does an exciting blend of new colors. More simply, we’re tripping out on color and obsessing over our colored denim.
With colors reminiscent of the coast of Northern California: Big Sur (the location of this year’s Fall photo shoot), a mix of warm sunset hues, golden glows, moss covered coastlines, turquoise sea-lines, and a mix of our favorite deep indigos infuse our denim to make an unmatched mix up of fun colors for Fall.
Since denim undoubtedly reigns supreme in our closets this time of year we’re delighted to have plenty to pick from…And we love that the ankle length gives that extra needed versatility to pair with ankle booties like the Westbourne boots and looks rocker chic with a pair of rolled up Skinny Floods in Moss Cove (a personal fav of Kelia Moniz).
For a softer approach, the boldly beautiful Gold denim is nothing short of sweet alongside the cropped vanilla Moon Fall top, and for the feet, some lacey Sloane Boots, in tan of course! To us, this is the perfect golden girl ensemble for the season.
Continuing with the denim trend, warm it up with vivid scarlets in the Coastal Cove denim. This rich color is easily mixed with some easy Azul sandals or some strappy two-tone Biscayne Boots, and don’t forget a sweater!
…and in the spirit of our opening pic…sorry Summer, but ‘That’s a wrap!’
