All I can think about is the holidays- the lights around town, the window displays in the stores, and the fact that my roommate has been blasting Christmas tunes are just a few reminders that the holidays are near.  One of my all-time favorite things about the holidays is gift giving!

Why not spice things up a bit and go for some winter slippers or boots?! My personal favorite are the Just Chillin Boots, because I absolutely love patterns this winter. The Mark it Mine cosmetic bag and the Sometime laptop sleeve case  in are the perfect Roxy duo that any friend would be thrilled to unwrap.  Although store bought gifts are very thoughtful, receiving a homemade gift always brings a smile to my face- try a mixed CD, a picture frame, or handmade bracelets are all easy ways to give this winter!

Friday Inspiration: Even though Christmas is probably decking the halls of your school, office, or town, let’s not forget that the holiday season is a time to be thankful for the wonderful people around us and the opportunities we have been given!

Winter is here; ski hills are opening, flakes are falling, and the Roxy snow team is gearing up for a new season of adventures.  But before jumping full-on into winter travels, Torah Bright, Erin Comstock and Robin Van Gyn took the time to stop in at the Seattle, WA offices of Mervin Manufacturing (where Roxy snowboards are designed) to check out the future snowboard line at the annual Roxy, Gnu, and Lib Tech snowboard summit.  Each of the team riders discussed their brand new snowboards and how they are each involved in the design and construction of the snowboards – pretty cool huh! While at the office they were kind enough to stop by the photo copier and create something for the Roxy/Mervin crew to remember them by!

After hanging out at the office and stirring up a little bit of trouble the  team headed back to the mountains– to their real “day jobs”– where office chairs are chairlifts, board meetings are park laps with friends, and time cards are season’s passes.

Last week, Roxy’s Rip Curl Grom Search Champions traveled across the nation to meet in San Francisco for the National Finals where Roxy’s own Tatiana Weston Webb was crowned champion!

The girls trained all week, and then hit the city to explore a world they’ve never seen. Shops, munis, markets, seafood, and all the sights of San Francisco were crammed into the one busy weekend.

These girls have never seen or experienced anything like the city of San Francisco. Chelsea Tuach is from Barbados, a small country in the Caribbean where shopping in a big city of lights does not exist. Tatiana Weston-Webb is from Hawaii, where no one owns a big, winter coat and a pair of combat boots. Nikki Viesins is from Florida, where you don’t have to take a cable car across town… But they got to do it all in San Francisco!

From dinner with the Roxy Team in the city, to a day at the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market, to an afternoon at Fisherman’s Wharf, to a day in China Town, to a scenic stop near the Golden Gate Bridge – and in between, an exciting moment in history watching Quiksilver Team Rider Kelly Slater take his 11^th World Title, these Roxy girls experienced the city life, along with surfing the chilly, shark infested waters of Santa Cruz and the Cove at Ocean Beach.

another perfect day at Snow Park

I’ve been down in New Zealand for a few weeks now, and spring is by far the best season to be here. We’ve been enjoying Snow Park’s pipe and park set up in a near privacy. Long days of  amazing riding and great spring conditions. Scotty James been landing doubles all over the place and I’ve been working a few things myself And the best part is, unlike winter where you could end up sitting in the lodge waiting out flat light and howling wind, spring is much milder and we’ve only had one down day due to wind. I hear it’s been snowing in Park City and Mammoth, getting excited for winter powder days but am going to enjoy the southern hemisphere spring for a little while longer!

The snow team girls cruised down to the office last week to check out next years 2012/13 snow line and to talk about ideas for 2013/14 outerwear. That’s right, I said 2013/14. It’s hard to wrap your head around where trends will be 2 years from now, so there is no one better for the task than our talented snow girls. They live and breath the mountain lifestyle, trend scouting snow fashion is second nature to them. Sarah Burke, Erin Comstock, and Robin Van Gyn gathered together with our talented design team to start work on what will inevitably be an amazing collection.

It wasn’t all future-talk, the girls also took some time to go over our new 2011/12 Snow Collection that launched earlier this month. Everyone agreed that the Torah Bright pant is a perfect pant, and the they love the longer fitting coats, like Brooke, Unity, and Wild. Sarah and Robin both spend their winters in the cold and wet Whistler mountains, so they are both looking forward to staying extra warm with the Cypher heating jacket.

 Mountain dwellers revel in the chance to clock in some beach time, so during down time the girls hopped in the Roxy cruck and headed to the beach to catch some waves.

For the past few days I’ve been living up in New York. I flew here from our Roxy catalog shoot in Oregon, where we spent 12 plus hours a day shooting all of the products in the line. Exhausting, but it was good preparation for a couple crazy days in the city that never sleeps! Since I’ve been here, I’ve been hanging tough with the Roxy girls, mainly my fellow Aussie and surfing ripper, Sally Fitzgibbons.

We’ve been hanging at the Roxy Beach house, watching the Quiksilver Pro and last night, we headed out to see the premiere of Travis Rice’s The Art of Flight. The movie literally gave me goose bumps it was so amazing; the cinematography, the riding and the riders! Travis, Jeremy Jones, Scotty Lago and Jake Blauvelt have me all inspired to get back out there and keep filming for my movie project!

And speaking of inspiring stuff, I just finished watching the finals of the Quiksilver Pro NY. Watching Kelly Slater and Owen Wright battle it out in front of an enthusiastic crowd was intense! I left there speechless but totally stoked for Owen, way to get the win and go out there blazing! Wonder what he’s going to do with his $300,000 prize!
