We’re always down for a good picture adventure! Aren’t you?
Moments before we set off on a journey with the Roxy surf team to the Mentawais and Bali for our Summer 2012 shoot, we fell head over heels (and borderline obsessed) with The Ropes Maine and have been completely hooked since.
Thanks to Maine Ropes designer Shana, we packed a bag full of Ropes, which now grace the pages of our Summer 2012 catalog and countless other pictures from the Surf Team’s epic adventure…and some of our co-workers even sports some Ropes too!
We caught up with Shana and had her share some ‘Maine Moments’ with us, because let’s face it, something about her Ropes and Maine quaintness completely entrances us.
Roxy: What is it about Maine you love most?
Shana: I always found the cities to be inspiring in a cultural sense but stifling from a creative and design stand point. I like the idea of visiting different metropolitan cities but then coming home to Maine to interpret and digest everything. Maine does not have all those big cities comforts or conveniences therefore I believe it pushes you to be more creative. Things are not so straight forward or obvious; you have to look outside the box and that is where creativity flourishes.
Roxy: How would you define a quintessential Maine moment?
Shana: Spending the entire day on my husband’s lobster boat exploring different islands off the coast.
Roxy: What is your favorite Roxy memory?
Shana: Growing up, I vividly remember my babysitter giving me hand-me-downs of her super cool clothes. I remember labels like Benetton, Espirit, OP, Body Glove, etc. But one item I remember in particular was a pair of boardshorts from Roxy that I wore every single day that summer.
Roxy: Where will your next adventure take you?
Shana: Hopefully on the next Caribbean location with Roxy!…realistically a trunk show/reunion with my college friends in the Hamptons.
Roxy: Can you give us a sneak peek or inside scoop on what we can expect next from The Ropes Maine?
Shana: In the future you can expect to see many more great jewelry designs, as well as a few new accessories – all incorporating rope of course!
Roxy: If you HAD to pick a favorite boardshort…what would it be?
SF: I have a couple of favourite pairs of Boardshorts, I love the La Femme model and all the different bright colours, I also love the Glassy Waters Boardshort. I love surfing in my Boardshorts it makes me feel like I’ve got super powers, the brighter the better.
Roxy: If you HAD to pick a favorite…what would it be?What song pumps you up right now?!?
SF: I love songs that get you singing and bopping on your way down to the surf. At the moment I love turning up; Ass Back Home Feat. Neon Hitch… Gym Class Heroes ; Wild Ones Feat. Sia Flo Rida & We Are Young Feat. Janelle Monae -Fun
Roxy: As you know, we’re looking for 3 girls from around the world to ‘Live the Dream of a Roxy Girl’. Can you give us an inside perspective on what it’s really like? How does the Sea Set You Free…?
SF: I’ve just launched into the 2012 ASP World Tour season. I’m so excited to be competing none stop for the first part of the year. After training hard in the off season I’m feeling strong and ready for a great year. Next stop is Bells Beach, the wintery location is the longest standing World Tour event. It is an iconic event, so many of my Heroes are past champions of the event. For that very reason I’m very keen to get down there and start hooking into some fun waves.
Roxy: You’ve seen so much already, but we want to know…where are you headed next and what are you most looking forward to on the journey of your life?

This weekend, the Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover finished the first stop of the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour on the Gold Coast of Australia.
The event was packed with spectators watching the world’s best surfers take on the waves at the world renowned Snapper Rocks. The beautiful weather and light winds drew in fans from all over the Gold Coast.
Roxy Team Rider Sally Fitzgibbons started off with a bang and surfed her way to the semi finals. In the semi final heat, Sally battled it out with four-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore. Sally started off strong, but was Stephanie soon had her combo-ed in the final minutes.
Steph Gilmore and Laura Evener, both from Australia, met in the final, and Steph continued her role of posting excellent scores, claiming her fourth Roxy Pro Gold Coast title.
On the men’s side of things, native Aussie Taj Burrow defeated Brazilian Adriano De Souza in the final, and took the 2012 Quiksilver Pro crown.
Congratulations to the Aussies!

Next stop on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour will be the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach Presented by Ford from April 3-14. Mark your calendars to watch Sally Fitzgibbons and Sofia Mulanovich from the Roxy Surf Team!
Yesterday, Roxy Team rider and top ASP contender Sally Fitzgibbons was crowned champion of the Inaugural Australian Open of Surfing Pro.
Team Rider Sofia Mulanovich and Sally both surfed impressively on their way to the final, but in the final round Sally took the lead with her massive turns and critical maneuvers that awed both the judges and spectators– a great way to kick off her season just before the ASP Roxy Pro at Snapper on the Gold Coast of Australia.
Follow Sally on her journey in pursuit of capturing the World Title this year with the first stop at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast 2012 and on Twitter @Sally_Fitz
Stay tuned for updates on Sally Fitzgibbons and the Roxy Pro Gold Coast next week!
Take a tour of the Wanning 2012 Hainan Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival Presented by Quiksilver— shot by our very own Roxy Team Rider Nikki Viesins, who only at 16 years old, took 11th overall. Other Roxy honorable mentions include, Bruna Schmitz, who took 9th, and Sofia Mulanovich started her year off right with a gold medal! Congrats again, Sofia!
This holiday season, I checked in with Roxy Team Rider Chelsea Tuach at her beautiful hometown on the island of Barbados.
Chelsea is dominating not only the Caribbean, but this last year she finished 9th at the World Games in Peru. I found out why, after surfing with her and watching her shred this Christmas.
Chelsea took me around the island and taught me a few tricks of the trade I believe I need to share…
