Torah Bright: So Long Spring…

Pretty sunset at home in AUS. Going to miss you!

After a couple action packed weeks in New Zealand riding the pipe and jumps and airbags up at Snow Park everyday I’m back in OZ for a quick family fix before heading back north for the start of that winter season. So for the past few days I’ve been drinking it all in.

Hanging out with my nieces, going on bush walks and getting styled by my little sister. She’s my hair stylist, I know I know, a long way to go to get your hair done but she’s amazing and worth the trip!

Definitely going to miss this place and the long Australian summers but am also getting really excited for winter to start hammering us with pow!

Cheers, Torah

Torah Bright: Back in New Zealand

Scotty James, Benny and I at TC.

After a few fun weeks in the states, I’m back in the southern hemi for round two of winter. Well, actually springtime. I’m back in Wanaka with my brother Benny and fellow Aussie Scotty James to ride for the last bit of spring shredding. So far so good. We’ve been having heaps of fun in Wanaka, riding at Treble Cone and Snowpark and just being back in the scene. Cardrona is hosting private halfpipe and airbag sessions the first two weeks of October so a bunch of the international riders are also making their way back to New Zealand for slushie spring pipes and jumps before winter starts up again in the northern hemisphere. Should be fun to ride with everyone again!

Cheers, Torah

Torah Bright: HP Commercial

I’m really excited that the new HP ePrint campaign has launched and the commercial is playing in Australia and NZ.   Have a look and let me know what you think!

The whole campaign was a lot of fun to shoot and I’m getting a lot of use from my printer lately – whoever thought I’d be able to send stuff from my phone to my mum’s printer on the other side of the world… Oh and I love love love that my mum has a cameo in the commercial! Hope you enjoy the commercial as much as I do and stay posted for more….there are a few versions in the mix.

Cheers! Torah

Congrats to Roxy’s Stand Up Paddle Team at the Battle of the Paddle, CA

Doheny State Beach was packed over the weekend with SUP fans and competitors alike for the fourth annual Battle of the Paddle September 24th & 25th.

The morning started with a 9am Elite Race and the newest addition to the Battle of the Paddle this year. This elite course is a multiple lap circuit that includes paddling through the surf and beaching equipment for a short, flagged sand run.

Only the top ten women advance, and Roxy’s Stand Up Paddle team did not disappoint. Advancing to the finals in the afternoon was Roxy’s very own Talia Gangini, one of the youngest riders out there, who came in with a 3rd place finish, while fellow Roxy’s Gillian Gilbree was right behind her.

Both girls moved on to the afternoon finals and Gillian overtook the 5th position from Talia who took 6th in the last round.

Roxy’s stand up Paddler Vanina Walsh also participated in the 2011 Baddle of the Paddle over the weekend. Vanina took two 1st places in the 13-14 girls and a 4th in the 18 and under girls stock board race.

Vanina was also given a special award for being the most inspirational female paddler!

A huge congrats to the entire Roxy SUP team!

9/7/11: Free Roxy Sunrise Yoga with Joseph Encinia- Yogi Life

Join Roxy & Bikram Yoga Long Beach (BYLB) on the beach for FREE Roxy Sunrise Yoga!

In anticipation of National Yoga Day on September 10th we’ll be stretching our muscles and our minds at the Roxy Sunrise Yoga special happening at the Quiksilver Pro, NY right on the beach! We’ve always appreciated the relationship between yoga and surf, with yoga having been known to improve balance, flexibility and core strength which is much needed in Surf. Kelly Slater is a notorious fan of yoga – and that’s all we need to hear.

From Sept. 7th (pending rain) through Sept. 10th from 7am-8am, Roxy will be celebrating a healthy, fit lifestyle with Yoga instructors from BYLB and special guest instructor Joseph Encinia.

BYLB located in Long Beach, NY opened its doors in October of 2010 by co-owners and certified Yoga instructors, Anne Hayes and Colleen O’Rourke. Since its inception, the state-of-the-art facility has welcomed over 2,600 students, athletes, as well as countless international yoga champions who have shared their knowledge and passion with the Long Beach, NY community.

A frequent visitor of BYLB and yogi extraordinaire Joseph Encinia will be a guest instructor at Roxy Sunrise Yoga! As the current and 3 time National Champion and 2011 Male International Asana Champion it’s obvious we’ll be learning from the best!

Born and raised in Dallas, TX, Joseph began his life with an unpromising diagnosis of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis leading to countless visits to the hospital and a struggle to strengthen his joints and muscles. After a major knee surgery, Joseph later suffered an unexpected heart attack at 13 years old. In an attempt to regain control of his health he learned about Bikram Yoga and has inspired millions since.

Please join us on the beach by the Roxy Surf Camp. Roxy Sunrise Yoga is FREE and open to ALL.

Arrive early, bring plenty of water, wear exercise clothing, and mostly importantly SMILE. We’ll take care of the rest…

Nameste & see you there!

Torah Bright: Stuck in New Zealand

Stuck in Queenie!

After an amazing trip to New Zealand and days of lapping the park up at Snow Park with Scotty James, Jake, and Benny, I got ready to head back to Australia only to get trapped in Queenstown. This storm is turning out to be the storm of the decade or century for New Zealand with cancelled flights for days and days. Not a bad place to be trapped, but when you’re ready to go you’re ready to go. So, after delays and canceled flights, I’ve finally made it back home to Cooma and am in sunny Perisher for a few days before I head down to Melbourne for the Chalet Girl movie. Busy, busy but it’s nice to be home relaxing with the fam.

Perisher’s Pipe…

In other Bright family news, my brother and coach, Benny won the NZ World Heli Challenge. He’s such and amazing rider and it was so much fun to be a part of his win. Yeah Benny! Check out his winner’s interview here!

Cheers, Torah

Torah Bright: New Zealand

Lake Wanaka

It’s so great to be back in wintertime again, as much as I am a summertime girl who loves her sunshine and days at the beach, it’s nice to be back in the snowboarding mix. Everyone from the world snowboarding scene has arrived on the shores of Lake Wanaka for a little southern hemisphere shredding and for the New Zealand Open up at Cardrona this week. It’s great to see everyone. I’ve been continuing to work on my film project despite the fact that the weather is always a little dicey in NZed. Keep in mind that the Maori name for the country is Aotearoa and means “the land of the long white cloud” which is sometimes hovering over the mountains for weeks on end. But it’s great to be back in New Zealand with it flat light, blustery days and all!

The old school Cardrona Hotel!
