This month, Roxy team rider Kassia Meador made a splash in Bon Appetit magazine. Joined by professional chef Chad Robertson and a cast of mixologists and other pro surfers, Kassia spent a week in Mexico enjoying the waves and cooking on an open flame. From homemade flat breads to fresh caught tuna preparations and handcrafted post-surf beverages, Kassia got the chance to experience and photograph it all. Introducing the third of four shorts before the Surf film FREQUENCIES, a collaborative effort between director Bruce Muller, photographer Sonny Miller, and Roxy team rider and famed longboarder Kassia Meador, debuts.

Roxy was lucky enough to catch the screening of the film at Sonos Studios in Los Angeles, where ESP performed the original sound scoring live to a packed audience. Ever since, we’ve been anxiously anticipating the chance to share the third short entitled ‘Dissonance’ with all of our Roxy fans.

In the collaborators’ own words, “There is a seemingly chaotic disorder in the world. At all times we are absorbing a myriad of competing frequencies. Electromagnetic, sound, seismic, and ocean waves reverberate all around us…The magnitude of these effects are massive. Some frequencies are incalculable. Certain energies are immeasurable. The collective neurosis of man cannot sustain.”

Professional Roxy Surfer Kassia Meador teamed up with director Bruce Muller and cinematographer Sonny Miller and musical trio E.S.P. to present three short films from “Frequencies” at Sonos Studio in Los Angeles this week.

It was a full house for the pre-screening and needless to say, it was quite a show! Kassia Meador graces the pages of the June issue of Oprah, on stands now. In the “Making Waves” feature, Kassia looks as classy and elegant as ever in a Peter Pilotto dress and Jimmy Choo wedges. She tells Oprah editors and readers how she makes waves in and out of the water, not only competing in surf competitions but also being a brand ambassador and designing a custom wetsuit line for Roxy. Longboard icon and Roxy team rider Kassia Meador floats serenely across the majestic waves captured by the lense of world renound filmmaker Sonny Miller. In Short 2 REFLECTIONS of Bruce Mullers FREQUENCIES. The visual meditation is the second of four shorts teasing the release this fall of Frequencies, an experimental documentary and visual essay by Muller shot at prime surfing destinations across Southern California. Starring Meador and with an original score from Los Angeles-based psyche-pop trio E.S.P, Frequencies aims to explore how man can find synergy with nature’s cycles. “Their are so many different frequencies all around us at all times: ocean waves, sound waves, light waves, infrared and many others outside our range, but all have an effect on us,” explains professional surfer and passionate photographer Meador. “There are many parallels we can connect between surfing and navigating life.” Having previously made the music video for Warpaint’s single “Elephant”, Florida-native Muller combined his love of surfing and the fantastical films of Ridley Scott, Andrei Tarkovsky and Akira Kurosawa in the upcoming feature. “We exist in a world that is vast and dynamic,” he says. “We’re using surfing as a medium to explore how we harness these energies and the effects they have on us.
