Our Roxy friend Kelly Connolly stopped in Roxy headquarters last week, board in tow, and a basket full of organic goodies from her “Little Santa Anita” canyon Sierra Madre, CA, where she resides with fellow shaper, Richard Wisz, their dog Mona, six chickens (Nell Mrytle, Heisenber, Bra bra, Flo, and Koko), and their 3 rabbits (Lil Mo, John Muir, and Darla).

A passionate person who loves to create things, among one of her many creations is a 5’8” blue board quad with handmade fins and a unique resin tint epoxy glass job by Greg Mungall…a beauty she shaped herself out of 100% recycled GreenFoam (pretty cool) for Roxy’s VP of Marketing Danielle Beck.

Kelly spent her childhood years in the likes of San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles which likely plays a key role in her undying affinity for adventure and love of water, because, let’s be real…she was never far from it…traveling to the likes of Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, the Caribbean Islands, Scotland, England, Ireland, Italy, France, and Spain!

It was inevitable that someday she’d find herself shaping boards and being one with nature, something she’s mastered in her now full-time job shaping surfboards! A process that usually takes a couple hours but not without a break in between to give it some ‘fresh eyes’. She always considers “who will be riding it, where…and what the riders expectations are”.

Meet Jordan Nemer,  Roxy’s in house Swim & Outdoor Fitness Merchandiser. Frankly, one of the sweetest gals we know who just so happens to have one of the coolest jobs here at Roxy because, let’s face it, ‘nothing is better than swim suits!’.

We’ve been ever curious about what she was carrying around in her bag…besides being semi-envious of her effortless style and yet  perfectly accessorized  appearance,  it seemed befitting that we do a little office spying of our own and determine ‘What’s In A Bag’ and ‘steal/borrow’ some of her secrets.

Here’s what we found:

                  1. The Drifter Casual Backpack is the perfect backpack because it’s big enough that I can fit all of my goodies in it, but it’s not too bulky! I love that it’s a cute yarn dye  fabric that’s super soft and the front compartment is easy to access my smaller items that I always have with me. I can take it to all of my meetings, and throw it on when heading down to the beach.

                  2. Dream Weaver Bikini: I always keep a Roxy bikini on hand, because living in Southern California the weather is always just right for some beach time. If I can sneak a little bronzing session in during my work week I am stoked!

                  3. Beach Toes nail polish & file: My designer Tori Smith and I are obsessed with our nails! We keep a little stash of nail products around in case of a polish emergency J The Beach Toes polish is super bright which is perfect for Spring/Summer time and looks amazing against tan skin.

                  4. Lip Gloss: I am a HUGE lipgloss addict. Constantly re-applying, and love all bright pink colors! MAC and Stila glosses are two of my favorites.

                  5. Sunnies: are a must have! I change which sunnies I wear daily!

                  6. Notebook & pens: My days are usually packed full of meetings so I always have a notebook and pens handy to keep track of everything that I have going on.

                  7. The Ropes Maine: I am OBSESSED with these gorgeous neon wrapped hand-made rope bracelets! They are the perfect pop of color to any outfit, and since I am notorious for wearing mostly black, the Ropes bracelets are the perfect way for me to show a little color!

Surfer Kassia Meador Rides Nature’s Rhythms in Bruce Muller’s Short Film

Longboard icon and Roxy team rider Kassia Meador floats serenely across the majestic waves in surfer and filmmaker Bruce Muller’s Echo. The visual meditation is the first of four shorts teasing the release this fall of Frequencies, an experimental documentary and visual essay by Muller shot at prime surfing destinations across Southern California. Starring Meador and with an original score from Los Angeles-based psyche-pop trio E.S.P, Frequencies aims to explore how man can find synergy with nature’s cycles. “Their are so many different frequencies all around us at all times: ocean waves, sound waves, light waves, infrared and many others outside our range, but all have an effect on us,” explains professional surfer and passionate photographer Meador. “There are many parallels we can connect between surfing and navigating life.” Having previously made the music video for Warpaint’s single “Elephant”, Florida-native Muller combined his love of surfing and the fantastical films of Ridley Scott, Andrei Tarkovsky and Akira Kurosawa in the upcoming feature. “We exist in a world that is vast and dynamic,” he says. “We’re using surfing as a medium to explore how we harness these energies and the effects they have on us.”

Today all the girls at the Chicken Jam got to enjoy the 36 inches of snow that fell last night. We spent the morning lapping chair 3 getting face shots on the way down and sprayed by people on the way up. So much snow and so much fun! As far as my first pipe contest of the year, Kelly Clark, Elena Hight and I decided to sit this one out and let the younger riders shine and despite the whipping wind gusts, these up and comers rode so well. Tomorrow is the Slopestyle so cross your fingers the wind dies down and the sun comes out!

In other news, I decided to give myself a haircut last night, what do you think? Not too bad considering I used a pair of toe nail scissors for the trim! Check us out tomorrow from 10-2 on the Webcast www.roxy.com/chickenjam!

My name is Dylan and I’m proud to call myself a Roxy girl! I love ALL things that include the beach, sunshine, fashion, and good music. I spend as much time as I can with friends at the beach, either soaking up the sun or riding bikes on the boardwalk while blasting the best tunes. My music playlist currently includes The Best Coast, Cold War Kids, the Streets, LCD Soundsystem, and The Growlers (always on repeat!). I try to go to as many concerts as I can, and am already counting down the days until Coachella Music Festival and Roxy Chicken Jam featuring LA ROUX!

Opened up the NEW Roxy Spring ’11 Catalog and instantly fell in LOVE! They have everything I adore from vintage print to bright florals. Here are a few items I’m purchasing ASAP…Roxy’s Pack It Up Drawstring Bag- so perfect for beach days or even just cruising around school. Love the print and rope drawstring!, In the Heart Sweetheart Monokini- might be my favorite look in the collection. I have been searching endlessy for a simple black one-piece. Sophisticated and adorable, I almost had a heart-attack when I realized it won’t break my bank either! So stoked!

This past weekend Roxy Athletix Rock Climber, Sierra Blair Coyle, participated in American Bouldering Series (ABS) Regionals in Tucson and won! Sierra is now qualified for the ABS Nationals taking place in Boulder, Colorado February 11th and 12th!

Roxy’s own 2 x Longboard World Champ, Jen Smith spent the weekend in beautiful Santa Barbara at quiksilver’s annual ‘Rincon Classic’. We were graced with gorgeous sunny weather and a pumping swell for the event during the event! Jen was spotted both under the roxy tent signing autographs and in the water, riding anything from her new thruster to her classic nose rider. Roxy also had a wetsuit demo going on where girls were able to try out all our newest roxy wetsuit styles. Click here to check them out for yourself!
