Professional Roxy Surfer Kassia Meador teamed up with director Bruce Muller and cinematographer Sonny Miller and musical trio E.S.P. to present three short films from “Frequencies” at Sonos Studio in Los Angeles this week.

It was a full house for the pre-screening and needless to say, it was quite a show! The Venice Art Walk and Auctions kicks off this year with the Surf & Skate even presented by the Boardriders on Thursday April 19^th. The preview event will be held at 585 Boardriders with Quiksilver, Roxy, and DC all present! Quiksilver Inc. athletes and artists will be there to preview auction works. Expect a list including Quiksilver surfers Reef MacIntosh and Strider, Kristi McKnight’s live art, Cesario “Block” Montano photography, Quiksilver shaper Michael Baron, Roxy surfer and artist Kassia Meador, DC’s Mark Winn and Tobin Yelland’s custom decks on display,  Mike Blabac photographs, and some Quik skate athletes.

Come down to Boardriders this Thursday and enjoy live art, music local DJ Kevyon Pierre, refreshments including beer frin PRIMO and Central Cal Wines and shopping to benefit Venice Family Clinic. This event is free and open to the public. A 20% discount will be offered and 20% of all proceeds will be donated towards the Venice family clinic. See you there!

Surfer Kassia Meador Rides Nature’s Rhythms in Bruce Muller’s Short Film

Longboard icon and Roxy team rider Kassia Meador floats serenely across the majestic waves in surfer and filmmaker Bruce Muller’s Echo. The visual meditation is the first of four shorts teasing the release this fall of Frequencies, an experimental documentary and visual essay by Muller shot at prime surfing destinations across Southern California. Starring Meador and with an original score from Los Angeles-based psyche-pop trio E.S.P, Frequencies aims to explore how man can find synergy with nature’s cycles. “Their are so many different frequencies all around us at all times: ocean waves, sound waves, light waves, infrared and many others outside our range, but all have an effect on us,” explains professional surfer and passionate photographer Meador. “There are many parallels we can connect between surfing and navigating life.” Having previously made the music video for Warpaint’s single “Elephant”, Florida-native Muller combined his love of surfing and the fantastical films of Ridley Scott, Andrei Tarkovsky and Akira Kurosawa in the upcoming feature. “We exist in a world that is vast and dynamic,” he says. “We’re using surfing as a medium to explore how we harness these energies and the effects they have on us.”

Here’s another inspiring snow video to get you through the week. Roxy team rider Robin Van Gyn and friends Hana Beam, Annie Boulanger, and Leanne Pelosi spent last week in the mountains of B.C. hitting jumps and riding fun pillow lines. Stuck in Queenie!

After an amazing trip to New Zealand and days of lapping the park up at Snow Park with Scotty James, Jake, and Benny, I got ready to head back to Australia only to get trapped in Queenstown. This storm is turning out to be the storm of the decade or century for New Zealand with cancelled flights for days and days. Not a bad place to be trapped, but when you’re ready to go you’re ready to go. So, after delays and canceled flights, I’ve finally made it back home to Cooma and am in sunny Perisher for a few days before I head down to Melbourne for the Chalet Girl movie. Busy, busy but it’s nice to be home relaxing with the fam.

The only thing I love more than watching my VERY favorite TV show- aka: “THE GREATEST SHOW OF OUR TIME” or more accurately- Gossip Girl- on Monday nights is reading the hilarious recaps posted the following morning by one my favorite New York magazine blogs, Daily Intel. DI provides a “Reality Index” for each episode of Gossip Girl…noting what is (from last night’s show) “Realer than the Poor Kid from Boston Taking the Chinatown Bus” or “More Fake than College Students Using a Verizon-Branded IM Service and Not Gchat.”  I love the cheek-in-tongue way they dissect parts of the show I may have missed or give voice to something I was secretly thinking to myself while watching.
