Let The Sea Set You Free finalist Ishita Malaviya films Beyond The Surface

ROXY Let The Sea Set You Free Finalist Ishita with her Roxy surfboard in India

Last year’s Roxy Let The Sea Set You Free finalist & India’s first female surfer Ishita Malaviya has already taught numerous young girls surfing at her surf school – The Shaka Surf Club. She’s taking her dreams of inspiring women in her community a step further and is currently busy filming for the documentary film project #BeyondTheSurface. The film is set to depict Ishita and a group of talented young women creating change and bringing hope to the local community and people around the world. Together the group is traveling and documenting the ways in which surfing, yoga, and ecological creativity and a bit of determination can spark hope for those suffering and without a voice.

Ishita is a daring young woman continuing to inspire us to dream big like she did during the Let the Sea Set You Free contest.

Wanderlust: Erin Comstock career retrospective

Today we honor or long time team rider, Erin Comstock, with a video showcasing her 10 year career in snowboard films. She’s been in the snowboard game for a over a decade, and her talent and love for snowboarding just seems to get stronger with time. Around here we like to call her the Energizer Bunny, because with all of the ups and downs and bruises and breaks that come with the territory of professional snowboarding, Erin does not slow down. Thanks for charging Erin, you’re an inspiration to us all!

Erin will be guest coaching at ALL of the Roxy Ride Days stops this year, so if you’d like the chance to meet and ride with Erin in person, be there of be square!

wanderlust: torah bright full part

As we gear up for the holiday season, Roxy girl Torah Bright kicks off her ride towards the 2014 Winter Olympics. We don’t know what to expect from the reigning 2010 Gold Medalist, but we know it will be good. Take for instance this past weekend when at the Breckenridge Dew Tour, Torah decided to learn a new trick (a backside alley-oop rodeo) right before the finals started. She didn’t quite stick it in finals, but we’re confident she’ll be putting it down in many contests to come. We’re excited to follow Torah on the rest of her journey and see what else she has up her sleeve.
Check out this highlight video of Torah’s 2011/12 season, and as you head out on your holiday break and into the New Year; take some queues from Torah and dare to go big and try new things!

Wanderlust: Robin Van Gyn full part

The Roxy family is full of adventurous people, but perhaps the most adventurous girl of all is über-talented snow team rider, Robin Van Gyn. She has gone to more places in the last 2 years than many people see in a lifetime, including Japan, Kyrgystan, New Zealand, Patagonia, Austria and just about every sweet snowboard zone in North America. Any given day she can be found hiking her split board out to surf spots in Tofino (yes, we mean split snowboarding and surfing in one trip), snowmobiling into remote corners of the infamous Whistler backcountry to session secret snowboard spots, or riding a bus through South America in the summer months to explore the fruits of the southern hemisphere winter. Even when she’s not on snow, she’s equally adventurous on dry land. Most recently she spontaneously entered and completed a half marathon mere hours after celebrating at a late night surprise birthday party in her honor. To see Robin’s jet-setting adventure life in action, be sure to watch the latest video in our Wanderlust series.

Wanderlust: street style

For some time now there has been a growing Do-It-Yourself movement in snowboarding, where people are exploring creative ways of riding that do not involve high priced lift tickets, crowded slopes, and expensive lodge food. For some, new split board technologies act as human powered chairlifts allowing them to ride the backcountry or sidecountry (the area right next to the resorts) for free. Others head to the streets, where all they need is a shovel and a few good friends. This is the path that some of our creative Roxy amateur team riders (including the 2012 Roxy Shooting Star winner Danyale Patterson) have taken in the fourth video in the Wanderlust collaboration video series between Roxy and Peepshow films. Consider this a how-to video on low-budget (yet still high tech) snowboarding, and be inspired to think outside the box this winter.

We’re All on This Ride Together

We have been trailblazers from the very beginning. By marrying fashion and performance we turned our world upside down and inspired a wave of girls to head out into the surf. We were born in the ocean and carved our way to the mountains — and we’re not done yet. This is our heritage and our future — Ride strong and create the next big wave.

This is a look our most inspirational Roxy girls from around the world including Olympic half pipe snowboard Gold Medalist Torah Bright, professional surfers, Kelia Moniz, Kassia Meador, Jen Smith, Monyca Byrne-Wickey, and Bruna Schmitz. This is a look at our most inspirational Roxy girls from around the world including Olympic half pipe snowboard Gold Medalist Torah Bright, professional surfers, Kelia Moniz, Kassia Meador, Jen Smith, Monyca Bryne-Wickey and Bruna Schmitz.

Frequencies: Dissonance with Team Rider Kassia Meador

Introducing the third of four shorts before the Surf film FREQUENCIES, a collaborative effort between director Bruce Muller, photographer Sonny Miller, and Roxy team rider and famed longboarder Kassia Meador, debuts.

Roxy was lucky enough to catch the screening of the film at Sonos Studios in Los Angeles, where ESP performed the original sound scoring live to a packed audience. Ever since, we’ve been anxiously anticipating the chance to share the third short entitled ‘Dissonance’ with all of our Roxy fans.

In the collaborators’ own words, “There is a seemingly chaotic disorder in the world. At all times we are absorbing a myriad of competing frequencies. Electromagnetic, sound, seismic, and ocean waves reverberate all around us…The magnitude of these effects are massive. Some frequencies are incalculable. Certain energies are immeasurable. The collective neurosis of man cannot sustain.”

Be sure to check out the 1st short ‘Early Echo’ and 2nd short ‘Reflections’ here on the Roxy blog.
