Moving Away from The Hills

LC style

It’s been quite a few years since Lauren Conrad first popped up on our radar as a beachy blonde (living just down the road from us) on the hit show, Laguna Beach. Now, 5 years later, LC has really come into her own- taking the world by storm with the  #1 New York Times bestselling novel (L.A. Candy), more than one clothing line, and leaving behind a show that isn’t quite the same without her. Throughout it all, Conrad has found herself a constant fixture on celeb style and gossip blogs for her effortless style. So it comes as no surprise that Lauren Conrad will author a style guide book in the next year. LC fans, rejoice!

Gossip Girls in the News

It’s no secret that I am just a little bit obsessed with CW’s Gossip Girl. (Ok, understatement of the year…) But, I just can’t seem to get enough! And it seems everyone else agrees with me as evident from media headlines lately. From Blake Lively’s hair being heralded as the “new Rachel”   to Leighton Meester’s hot new single that I listen to oh, about 20 times a day – these girls are definitely keeping us on our toes.  And I, for one, can’t wait to see what they do next!

A Day in the Life of Marvelous Mia: The Voice of Roxy

By Jennifer Andrews | Published November 11th, 2009

Mia

Today, we check in with someone you hear from on a regular basis, though you may not even know it! Spotlight on Mia, the FABULOUS voice of Roxy!

Job Title/Description of what you do:

I’m the Online Marketing Content Coordinator and I have probably one of the coolest jobs at Roxy!  My job involves a lot of writing and organizing and I LOVE it!

One the best parts of my job is traveling to events. For the past two years I’ve traveled to Roxy Jam Cardiff and the Chicken Jam. My job is to blog from the event, update the website with daily wrap ups, and upload photos. Interviewing the athletes for the blog is so interesting. They are AMAZING women!

I am the main author on the Roxy blog and I also manage all of Roxy’s social networking sites. If you’re a fan of Roxy on Facebook you probably get Roxy newsfeeds from me everyday :) Coming up with Roxy’s status is a lot of fun but it also can be a challenge to think of fresh messages each day. We like to announce athlete news, new products on the site, events, and special promotions on our facebook page. I also manage our youtube channel , myspace page, and our flickr galleries. This involves writing the profiles, keeping up with friend requests, and responding to friends who comment or have questions.

I also write the copy for Roxy emails and on roxy.com. A lot of my day is spent organizing projects for Roxy.com which involves event sites, athlete bios, and merchandising stories. Whenever we have a new season of clothes coming out, and we need to switch all the images on the website (for example: from Summer to Back-to-School) it’s my job to organize the project and write the copy.

Time worked at ROXY:

2 years

Defining moment at Roxy:

Probably my first year at Chicken Jam, when I got to interview the winners of the 2008 Chicken Jam for the website after they just won the slopestyle and superpipe competitions…that was pretty cool!

Style Icon/Style Inspiration:

For inspiration I like reading Interview magazine and going to the beach in Laguna. I also like to see what my friends living in different parts of the country are wearing.

Fav part of working for ROXY:

I LOVE being part of a brand that has such a positive, great message for women – you can’t get much better than fun, alive and naturally beautiful.

Go-To Fashion Item or Outfit right now:

I just got this new pair of earrings that I can’t stop wearing – my friend Tivoli made them. One is a feather and the other is a charm with the word “laugh” on it…I love how they don’t match. I am also obsessed with my neon nail polish. I bought this little sample package from Essie that has 4 mini bottles in it: neon yellow, hot pink, electric purple, and bright fushia!

Advice to Squadettes:

Pursue what you love! I never thought I could find a job that was as fun as this one…don’t be afraid to take a chance either!

Thanks Mia!  Check back soon for our next ROXY Superstar!

Smokin’ Eyes

By Jennifer Andrews | Published November 3rd, 2009

Smokey Eyes

I’m a huge fan of piling on loads and LOADS of eyeliner. For me- the blacker the better…and keep it coming! While I have always loved how smokey eyes look, the actual application has me scared silly. I’m definitely not one you would consider “genetically blessed” in the makeup department (my sister got all those genes). Anyway, I think my luck might have just changed.

Enter Emily of my latest blog obession, Cupcakes and Cashmere. (I mean what’s not to love about that name? She’s a girl after my own heart.) Her tutorial on how to get sexy, smokey eyes is by far the easiest I have ever seen. Check it out here and follow suit.

End note- If you are looking for a great, inexpensive mascara, I am secretly obsessed with CoverGirl’s Lash Blast. I swear when I use it, my lashes have never looked bigger, bolder or more beautiful.

On the Radar: Pretty PJ’s

By Jennifer Andrews | Published October 27th, 2009

One of the first Roxy items that I fell absolutely head-over-heels in love with was this absolutely fabulous pair of pajamas. They were blue, white and aqua in that famous Roxy Hawaiian print of the late-90s and every time I wore them I felt like the coolest girl in my grade! (Particularly as the reason I got them in the first place was my first ever sleepaway field trip, so I got to show them off to the whole school…)

So now whenever I think of pjs, those Roxy babies will hold a special place in my memories.
I thought of them this morning as I was checking out a few of my favorite blogs and noticed that PJS ARE BACK in a big way. This morning, Urban Outfitters released a new line of Betsey Johnson Pajamas and my personal style icon, Kate Moss, has a whole selection in her latest TopShop line.

With such great styles, prints and fabrics, I just might have to go for a pair of these pretty pajamas myself!

Spring 2010 Preview in NYC!

Last Wednesday, we previewed Roxy’s Spring 2010 collection to editors, friends of the brand, and tastemakers at Saturdays Surf Shop in NYC. People really loved the rompers, the long jumpsuits, the floral dresses mixed with the edgy army jackets. I was lucky enough to get some photos from the event from our PR gal in New York, Stef.

Matte About You

By Jennifer Andrews | Published October 19th, 2009

In the past year I have become absolutely obsessed with painting my nails. I find that it gives your style an extra notch of personality….something that can’t be communicated in any other way. Vibrant red shows a classic sophistication while black is edgy and utterly cool. Nudes are clean and crisp and colors bring out a playful side in anyone.

One nail trend that I have been reading about for months, but have been hesitant to try is a matte finish. I just couldn’t figure out how I felt about it.
KarenO_matte

However, on a recent lunch excursion to Ulta, I finally picked up a bottle to try out over my recently painted blood red nails. And guess what? I am simply put: OBSESSED. There is something so chic and edgy about the way my nails don’t give off that standard nail “shine.” It’s so…unexpected. And style that kind of sneaks up on me is my very favorite kind.

Have you tried matte nail polish? If so, what do you think?
