ROXY and our team riders took NY by storm! Sally Fitzbiggons, Rosy Hodge, Lisa Andersen, Kassia Meador, Kelia Moniz, Monyca Byrne-Wickey, and Torah Bright came to NY for the Quiksilver Pro 2011.

A lot of fun times were had! Between the ROXY Beach House, Surf Camp, packed athlete signings, the Quiksilver Pro NY opening ceremony, the premiere of The Art of Flight, Fashion’s Night Out and the super session charity face-off between Sally Fitzgibbons and Quiksilver’s Steph Gilmore, we had a BALL! History was made, and we were happy to be able to bring a little bit of our west-coast surf culture to the right coast. Thanks Long Beach, NY!! <3

Travis Rice being interviewed by Torah Bright!

Friend of Roxy, Quiksilver rider Travis Rice, has a new snowboard movie due out September 2011. ‘The Art of Flight’ is a follow up from the producers of ‘That’s it, That’s All’ and features Travis Rice along with 8 of his snowboard buddies in a global trot from Jackson Hole, Alaska, Aspen, Patagonia and to British Columbia, to name a few. We asked (more like begged and pleaded) our brothers at Quiksilver to see if they could somehow help us get into this awesome premiere.

Apparently asking nicely worked for us, because we got our Roxy Team Riders into the premiere. Our very own snowboard queen Torah Bright, is a good friend of Travis. We armed her with a mic and sent her on the red carpet to interview T. Rice. Afterwards, we joined a very excited crowd in the Beacon Theater on Broadway, to watch this very-much buzzed about movie. One word: AMAZING.

Last night we came out in support of  Fashion’s Night Out to our Roxy store in Soho.
The turn-out was amazing! Lines formed before we even opened our doors! Our guests got to mingle with our friends from Stila, Minx Nails, Seventeen, NEXT modeling agency, the Roxy athletes, and surf photographer Jim Russi.

Jim Russi was there to sign copies of his surf photography book Flying Through The Clouds, which also features many ROXY girls over the years.

Attendees were treated to Stila make-overs, get their nails did via Minx Nails and had the opportunity of a life-time: to get screened by NEXT models (one of the TOP agencies in the world!) for our casting call. As we are on our search for the “NEXT Roxy girl presented by Stila”, we asked applicants some tough (ok maybe not so tough) questions. Since the girls were there to become the NEXT face of Roxy we wanted to know, “What makes you a ROXY girl?”

If you couldn’t tell already, we live for the beach. The ocean, the waves, the feeling of sand in your hair and on your skin…we can’t get enough. Spending that much time at the beach requires us to look and feel good in our beach clothes & accessories.
It’s also made us a little bit of experts in the subject of beach fashions.
We sent our stylish Roxy team riders Kelia Moniz and newbie Roxy girl Monyca Byrne-Wickey out on the boardwalk of Long Beach, NY while we were at the Quiksilver Pro 2011 to see what the fashion is like. Watch below!

Born and raised on California Jim Russi, like many southern Californians, took to surfing at a young age, thus inspiring a lifetime obsession of surfing fueled by his creative talents in surf photography!

Residing in the north shore of Oahu, and traveling the world to snap some of the most imaginative pictures, Jim Russi has photographed for major magazines, advertising campaigns and continues to do great work for both Quiksilver and all of us at Roxy!

His new book “Flying Through the Clouds” is loaded with over 180 images that he has captured during adventures in the sand, water and sky.  

We’re so excited to celebrate his latest release with fellow Roxy team riders including: surf legend Lisa Andersen, Kassia Meador, Rosy Hodge, and Kelia Moniz who can be seen doing what they do best throughout his book now available on Amazon.
