The Surfindian: See Kassia Meador’s Photography

By Mia | Published September 8th, 2009

up-up-and-away

Kassia Meador’s intriguing photography along with Doodles by Chris Del Moro are going to be on exhibit at the Surfindian in Pacific Beach from Sept. 12th – Oct. 21st. Kassia is going to show her large format photos covered in resin.

“I travel for surf but there are so many other things that inspire me along the way. I love shooting my friends and places I travel to,” says Kassie.

We’re just crazy for Kassia right now. She was featured in Nectar Magazine’s premiere issue (a refreshing online mag dedicated to women’s outdoor sports) and has a great interview where she talks about life, art, and surfing. You can’t read this article WITHOUT being inspired.

See ya at the Surfindian.

Roxy Snowboard – Designed by Rex Ray – In San Fran Gallery

By Mia | Published September 1st, 2009

Artist and graphic designer Rex Ray painted this beautiful snowboard for Roxy.  Starting Sept 11th it’s going to be on display in San Francisco art gallery, Gallery 16. I’d like to have this hangin in my living room!

Browsing around on Rex Ray’s site, I noticed that he has worked on quite a few amazing projects, including tour posters for The Rolling Stones, R.E.M., Radiohead and Bjork, U2, Flaming Lips and Beck. He makes his art by combining oil, acrylic, and mixed media. The result – beautiful, colorful, cut and paste works of art.

He also lives in San Francisco, one of the coolest cities in the world, and has an adorable pooch.

Our Rex Ray snowboard 1011 will be in this gallery:

Song of the Week: Sian Alice Group — The Dusk Line

By daisyodell | Published July 8th, 2009

I think that Sian Ahern’s voice is unusual and exquisite. On ‘The Dusk Line,’ her and Rupert Clervaux (grand piano), two members of Sian Alice Group, create a sound that is so vulnerable that it evokes a myriad of emotions in me and proves that the space between the notes is as powerful as the music itself. Sian Alice Group have become known for their “sweeping, orchestrated aesthetic”, but ‘The Dusk Line’ distills their sound to its core. This song is elegant in its simplicity, yet an absolutely beautiful arrangement. Check out the Ben Crook directed video below, Sian Alice Group’s debut 59.59 and follow up EP The Dusk Line are out now on The Social Registry, and learn more about the band at

Song of the Week: The Reeling (Calvin Harris Remix) — Passion Pit

By daisyodell | Published June 22nd, 2009

I like Passion Pit’s debut album ‘Manners’ A LOT. I have been a fan of the band since their EP came out late last year and even included the track ‘Sleepy Head’ on my best songs of 2008 list. ‘The Reeling’ is the first single off ‘Manners’ and it is everywhere right now. It’s a catchy indie electro-pop gem and was given the 80s dancefloor treatment by British cutie Calvin Harris. I like this remix because it retains the feeling of the original while tactfully bumping up the energy. Calvin Harris has a gentle hand in comparison to the aggressive electro remixes that I keep hearing but his style really works for me. As his remix of the Ting Tings song ‘Great DJ’ did last year, I expect this reworking of ‘The Reeling’ to be a staple of my sets this summer. I had the opportunity to hang out with Calvin when Boom Bip (Neon Neon) and I DJed his album release party in LA.

Song of the Week: Lissy Trullie “Boy Boy”

I first met Lissy while she was DJing at the Beatrice Inn. We were
wearing the same hat and she was playing one of my favorite bands – Television.  Like everyone else, I was immediately smitten with this downtown darling and eager to hear her original music. I love the EP (out now on American Myth Recordings) and “Boy Boy” is a fantastic lead single. Photographer Cass Bird directed the video, part of which was filmed at Lit, where Harley Viera-Newton and Cassie Coane (who played the ROXY JBL launch with me) host their rad Wednesday night party. Harley and Cassie even have cameos along with one of my favorite actresses/style icons Chloë Sevigny. This song reminds me of my New York friends and I hope you dig it as much as I do.

Roxy Launches Headphones with Audio Giant JBL in New York!

By daisyodell | Published June 9th, 2009

Daisy O'Dell

When ROXY told me that they got The Golden Filer and Crystal Castles to perform and DJ respectively at the headphone launch, I was beyond excited.  I have been a fan of both those bands from the beginning and think they so perfectly capture the energy and fun of the ROXY brand.  The night of the show was incredible. DJ duo Harley Viera-Newton and Cassie Coane opened and got the crowd moving with a super set.  I brought a bunch of friends for moral support and they cheered everytime my commercial came on the screen. I will admit their energy may have been extra high because of all the sugar free Redbull we consumed.  I needed to switch to Coconut water so I could stop bouncing off the walls and play a set. The crowd was super cool and the perfect mix of downtown, uptown, music, and celebrity.  Everyone tried the headphones and agreed that they not only looked cool but also sounded awesome. My life is pretty hectic these days – jumping from city to city and playing all kinds of shows with all kinds of artists.  I must admit that sometimes it all blurs into a hazy dream, but the night of the ROXY JBL headphone launch is still super vivid. It is a crystal clear memory and (with-out question) one of the most fun nights I’ve ever had.
