The first question that will most likely come to mind is, “How the hell do you pronounce that name?” Pronounced double U double V double W Z, UUVVWWZ is an indie rock quartet from Nebraska has just released their self titled debut album. Their ambitious and raw energy is reminiscent of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. “Shark Suit” is a funky track with a plethora of noise and synthesizers, fluctuating from fragility to intensity all while bringing the audience through constant turbulence and catharsis. Give them a listen if you like manic music that constantly keeps you on the edge. You won’t mind the long band name then.

Sit back and have yourself a beer with Deer Tick, an indie rock band hailing from Providence, Rhode Island. Their sound emanates a very niche-y style somewhere in between old-fashioned folk and country with a laid back attitude. But don’t let this stop you from listening in, although everyone needs occasional dust kicking fun, Deer Tick shows versatility and orchestral expansion beyond their years. On their most recent album, Born On Flag Day, their gritty, melodic ambitiousness is memorable and prevalent. Tune in on “Art Isn’t Real aka City of Sin” and you just might take a seat on your back porch and start strumming your own acoustic.

There are times during the day when being raucous and needing to jump around and scream are completely necessary. The Black Lips, and their garage rock punk appeal give anyone the opportunity to do just that. Their fifth full length album, 200 Million Thousand features their newest single, I’ll Be With You, a sappy heartfelt song with its own sloppy feel and original twist. They are currently on tour for the summer, be sure to check them out for a change of pace in your musical persona.

While the rest of the world is just now catching up to that addicting synthetic pop that is seemingly ubiquitous on the radio today, Ladytron started their stylistic evolution early on in 2001. The group has already released their fourth studio album, Velocifero, and has achieved international attention. The lush palette of their new wave sounds allow new nuance for anyone’s unchartered musical terrain. Be sure to check out “Tomorrow“, their latest single and let us know what you think!

We seem to have magnetism towards quirky, avant-garde folk pop, and friends, our radar has led us quickly to Michael Zapruder and his newest release, Dragon Chinese Cocktail Horoscope. His blended melodious energy stems from the wide array of instruments and poetic lyrics that tend to inspire and color any listener’s musical canvas. “Ads For Feelings“, the first single off of the album opens up with a fast paced beat and develops into a slew of woodwind. His unconventional compositions are harmonized by the fine and delicate intricacies that one must listen to over and over again.

It’s always nice to “discover” a “new” artist and realize that they’ve already released 3 full-length albums. Leave all your preconceptions of indie rock at the door and try The Silent Years‘ latest EP, Let Go, on for size. A perfect soundtrack for your summer, the song “Taking Drugs At An Amusement Park” is redolent of a carefree ride on a merry-go-round. The dynamics and airy melodies will leave you feeling slightly weightless.

You might have recently seen our latest enthrallment, the French band, Phoenix on Saturday Night Live or maybe on the Late Show With David Letterman, performing “1901“. Their sound is a fresh rendition of Daft Punkish blasts of disco and The Strokes. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, their fourth full-length album, has already broken through the mold by topping the Billboard Top 40 during the first week of its release. Check out the song “Lisztomania“, it demonstrates their musical confidence with a tinge of chaos and danceable ambience.

Where the Killers fell off, The Hundreds and Thousands definitely picked right back up. This power pop Canadian band just recently released their single, “Rat Race“, evocative of the pressures of being on the grind in a big city, on their self-titled debut album. There are soaring vocals, frantic tempos, and grungy guitar riffs that will charmingly surge its way into your heart.

It’s hard to stay mad when you listen to Miranda Lee Richard’s album, Light of X. She was recently named the Voice of Vintage America for Nine West! You’ll fload in the air with her unique blend of mellow pop mixed with folk rock. Her pure and immaculate voice has a tendency to drown out any preexisting anxiety or worries in the song, “Early November“. So sit back and let the warmth of her melodies take over you, the lyrical rays will envelope anyone in serenity.
