The Happiest Hour with Team Roxy at SeaLegs Wine Bar

Last night, the ROXY team riders took a much-needed break with amazing food and tasty wine to relax after a long day of heats. SeaLegs, our favorite local wine bar in Huntington Beach, invited our team to serve as guest ‘wintenders’ for the night as part of their celebrity bartending series during the US Open to help raise awareness for Boarding for Breast Cancer. B4BC is a non-profit foundation dedicated to providing education, prevention and support programs for young people and the action sports community at large.

4x world champion surfer Lisa Andersen led the charge behind the bar, serving up wine to all of the fans who came to the event to meet her.  Rosy, Monyca, Bruna and Stephanie also came out to support the cause!

UBER + ROXY Team Up for US Open – Prize Pack Opportunity!

The US Open, America’s largest surf competition, is going down this week right in our backyard in Huntington Beach, California.  We’ll be headed to the beach all week to support ROXY team riders Sally Fitzgibbons, Stephanie Gilmore, and Bianca Buitendag in their heats. We anticipate that parking near Main Street will be a total nightmare, so we’ve partnered up with Uber, the alternative ride sharing app, for a special #UberALLACCESS experience.

On Thursday, July 31st, we’re hooking up one lucky winner in the Huntington Beach area with an epic prize package full with Roxy and Quiksilver swag that is bound to make any surf-lover jump for joy. Read on to see how you and a friend can win this ultimate VIP experience that will have you looking like a pro!

How To Win #UberALLACCESS**:

1. Download or open the Uber app on your smartphone on Thursday, July 31st

2. Look for the special “ALL ACCESS” button that will appear on the Uber app when the #UberALLACCESS prize package is up for grabs

3. The first person to successfully request the “ALL ACCESS” vehicle will be whisked away to the experience with their +1

4. Stay up to date on #UberALLACCESS by following Roxy on Twitter @roxy and Uber on Twitter at @Uber_OC and @Uber_LA.

**The winner and guest must be 18 years of age or older. For more information, visit the official sweepstakes rules.

Here’s what we have planned for #UberALLACCESS:

If you’re the first person to request the “ALL ACCESS” vehicle option, an UberSUV stocked with Roxy & Quiksilver gear will roll up to your location.

The SUV will then whisk you away to the global headquarters of Quiksilver/Roxy so you can shop in their exclusive store on the campus with a $500 gift card

If that’s not rad enough, the winner will also receive a Channel Islands surfboard and $250 in Uber credits.

See ya on the beach!

ROXY Collaborates on Exclusive Midnight Swim Collection with LA Artist Niki Livingston

Lookout & Wonderland x ROXY

If you ask us, one-of-a-kind swim pieces, DIY crafts, tunes by DJ Love Fingers and artisanal cocktails are the perfect way to wrap up a busy work week and spend a Saturday evening.

Last month, Lookout & Wonderland’s founding artist Niki Livingston showcased her capsule collection of 100 one-of-a-kind, organic indigo-dyed bathing suits that were created in collaboration with Roxy swim designers.

We hosted a launch party at Shelter Half, a unique artisan marketplace in Los Angeles, to celebrate the collaboration complete with an indigo dye workshop, live music and craft cocktails.

The Midnight Swim collection blends shades of shadowy indigo – the perfect compliment for endless summer days and nights spent at the beach. We enjoyed a runway presentation of the new line and then snacked, danced and sipped on cocktails while having fun creating our own DIY indigo-dyed mobiles. Hemp string, dyed pieces of canvas and some sticks are all you need!

We spoke with Cynthia Son, a ROXY designer to get the inside scoop behind the Lookout & Wonderland x ROXY collaboration.

ROXY: What was the inspiration behind the collaboration?

Cynthia: The inspiration behind Midnight Swim was sparked from a concept from our swim designer Breanna Marston for our upcoming swim line. The underlying themes were a late night swim that evokes blue & black indigo inky patterns that feel like a summer night! Based on the beautiful hand dyed shibori technique used by Niki Livingston, we knew that her dynamic style mixed with indigo dyed patterns would be the perfect collaboration for ROXY!

ROXY: Will we see more collaborations like this for ROXY Swim in the future? Will indigo dyed product be available in larger quantities in the future?

Cynthia: For now the collection is a one-of-a-kind run of 100 pieces that will only be available  exclusively at Shelter Half. There are a couple upcoming collaborations we’re pretty excited about! Stay tuned to see what we’re planning for Spring 2015!

ROXY: We know what indigo is a hot trend right now. What other trends do you see taking off with swimwear in the next few months?

Cynthia: Indigo is definitely a BIG trend right now. Our design team is  currently focusing on experimenting with different textures, space dyed fabrics, cut outs & seamless details.

A ROXY Breakfast with Chef Andre

It’s not every day that you can eat breakfast at the office prepared by the chef of world-class surfers, so when it does happen, we make it into the office extra early! Australian clean foods chef Andre Sickinger is better known as the “Surfers Chef.” He prepares meals for the world’s top surfers on the tour, including our very own Stephanie Gilmore!  Every meal he makes is organic and nutritious, but yet somehow still tastes great!

Chef Andre at ROXY HQ

For our office breakfast, Chef Andre made two delicious super-food, plant-based meals. Check out the pics and try the recipes at home the next time you need some energy for your morning paddle!

The first is a revitalizing green smoothie. To make this smoothie you will need:

  • Approx. 16 oz. of Coconut Water (Chef Andre recommends Harmless Harvest brand if you don’t have any fresh coconuts available)
  • 1 green apple chopped
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 Lebanese cucumber (or a regular cucumber)
  • 1 large handful of fresh kale
  • ½ handful of mint
  • 1 lemon with no skin

You can also put in a teaspoon of Spirulina, a natural algae that is high in protein and nutrients.

Place them all into a Vitamix  and blast it on high speed until completely smoothed (or if you’re like us…a traditional blender will do).

Keep extra coconut water on hand to balance the consistency of the smoothie to your liking.

This recipe is great before a surf session to keep you energized and strong. It’s also great for detoxing!

The next dish we had is a Power Chia Pudding, a really easy recipe that takes some overnight preparation.

What you need is:

  • 8 oz. coconut water
  • ½ cup of chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of goji berries
  • 1 tablespoon of inca berries
  • 4 pitted prunes
  • 1 tablespoon of dehydrated mangos (sliced into strips)
  • 1 tablespoon of pepita seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of sunflower seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of almonds

Combine the coconut water, chia seeds, goji berries, inca berries, prunes, and mangos into a bowl. Mix them well and let it soak together overnight.

Soak the pepita seeds, sunflower seeds, and almonds in a separate glass of water overnight. Drain and rinse them after approx. 12 hours of soaking.

Mix all ingredients together and serve. If you have a sweet tooth, drizzle organic coconut nectar on top for a healthy all natural way to sweeten!

Keep a bowl of this in the fridge and have it as a snack or dessert for the next few days!

Loving Lost in Bali: Uluwatu’s Long Lefts & Bali’s Sunsets

After having a taste of the famous break during the Uluwatu challenge we were hungry for more! Surfing Uluwatu Bali is a real treat. Taking in the beautiful view, the water is warm, the wave fast and long. The hardest decision of the day was choosing which bikini we wanted to wear.

Surfing Uluwatu

Leading the way, Lee-Ann Curren, Rosy Hodge, Kelia Moniz and Bruna Schmitz knew where to go. Below the cliffs and through the cave, we entered the surf, perhaps one of the most unique and beautiful entry points we’ve ever encountered on all of our globetrotting surf trips.

Surfing Uluwatu

Usually a crowded break, we found a few line ups all to ourselves and made the most of those famous Uluwatu long lefts. This is our definition of heaven.

The best part of heading out on the boat had to be the delicious dinner the crew served up as we returned to the beach.

No need for plates here! A leaf and a pair of chopsticks were all we needed to enjoy a delicious Balinese-style feast.

Loving Lost in Bali: Exploring Ubud’s Natural Paradise

We found our paradise amongst the trees! Enjoying our time in Ubud’s natural paradise, we enjoyed the unique surrounds of Bambu Indah. Translating to ‘beautiful bamboo’ in Balinese, we quickly understood why!

A quirky combination of bamboo buildings and antique wood houses makes Bambu Indah the perfect mix of comfort and character.

For explorers like us, Ubud is a perfect hideaway and adventurers’ haven all in one.

Bambu Indah in Ubud

Fresh coffee and coconut water were the perfect way to start each day. Each morning, we enjoyed delicious locally sourced breakfasts. In fact, we could see where our herbs and vegetables came from…just a short distance away from the Bamboo Indah grounds!

The rope swing kept us entertained for hours and Bruna kept us laughing with her rope swing technique!

We loved tree house living! We spent the warm and lazy afternoons on the day bed listening to LeeAnn jamming on the verandah while falling asleep to the hum of the jungle.

Just a short taxi ride away, we headed into town to do a little shopping on the streets near Ubud central.

Winding our way through rice paddies to find the perfect place for lunch, we discovered Sari Organik. Good to see our appetite for coconut water hadn’t disappeared!

Loving Lost in Bali: Raw Food Cooking Class in Ubud

Inspired and energized by the local ingredients in some of the meals we were eating in Bali, we booked ourselves a raw food cooking class in Ubud to learn a couple new dishes.

Raw Lasagna

Our favorite dish by far was the raw lasagna (Did we mention that the marinara sauce was incredible!?)

Want to make a raw lasagna dish of your own? Here’s how we made it!

You’ll need:

1 Zucchini

1 Cucumber

1 Eggplant

1 Jicama (can be substituted with water chestnuts, pear or apple)

1 Avocado

basil pesto

Marinara sauce:

½ cup of sundried tomatoes

2 cloves of garlic

2 Tomatoes

1 tbsp honey

1 tbsp oregano

A handful of fresh basil leaves

2 dates

½ cup of olive oil

1 tsp flax seeds

1 tsp salt

1 lime

Here’s how to put it together:

1. To make the marinara sauce, Chop the tomatoes and place them in a blender along with the oregano, garlic, sundried tomatoes, fresh basil, the honey, dates and olive oil.  Squeeze a hint of lime and the salt. Blend until all ingredients are combined for about 1 – 2 minutes.

2. Slice your zucchini, eggplant and cucumber lengthways and cut them into even slices for layering.

3. Mash your avocado and set aside.

4. Place 2 even zucchini slices vertically side-by-side on a plate and spread with marinara sauce.

5. Follow by placing 2 slices of eggplant horizontally side-by-side on top and then spread with basil pesto.

6. Place 2 even cucumber slices vertically side-by-side and spread with mashed avocado.

7. Place 2 more slices of zucchini horizontally and spread with marinara sauce

8. Top with jicama (or substitute) a slice of tomato, a few leaves of basil and garnish with some flax seeds

9. Enjoy!

If you were wondering about Bruna’s unique headband she is wearing…it was made by a local woman at Bambu Indah. As we all sat for breakfast, an older woman approached us and gave each of us a beautiful flower headband handmade by the beautiful flowers from garden. A sweet little gift and token of kindness we will always remember from our trip to Bali!
