Featured Artist: Purity Ring

Purity Ring is a platform for Corin Roddick and Megan James to create their own brand of jittery, danceable electro tunes. The Canadian duo has been working together for about two years and just released what we think is their most accessible track yet, the quietly anthemic “Fineshrine.” Roddick’s crafty drum programming pairs gracefully with James’ feathery vocals here, making for an ideal soundtrack as you wind down after a long summer’s day of fun in the sun.

Download of the Week: Field Report “Taking Alcatraz”

If you unscramble the letters in Field Report, you get the last name of the lead singer, Chris Porterfield. While his name might not ring a bell, you’ve definitely heard him before, since he produced and played on Bon Iver’s records. He lives in Wisconsin too, making a similar strain of quiet folk rock that floats by like a breeze from an open window. Singing from his chest instead of in a falsetto, Porterfield is a littler rougher around the edges than Bon Iver, but that’s not a bad thing. He’s currently touring all over the country, supporting the self-titled Field Report album, which we love.

Sea For Yourself…The Winners’ life-changing adventure to Biarritz!

The three lucky winners of the Roxy Let The Sea Set You Free contest, including Americas winner Katie McLean who describes herself as being “infused with a love for surf cultures and a desire to create {her} own path.” Her expression spans from art to fashion to singing. Also a musician, Rpxy’s European winner Emilie Layla Lovaine sees life as “one great adventure.” Roxy’s Asia-Pacific winner Madison Setiawan encourages girls everywhere to “dare to dream”…which is just what they did!
Experience their first life-changing adventure together as they meet each other for the first time at the Roxy Pro 2012 in Biarritz, France.

In Day 1 of their adventure, Roxy athletes Kelia Moniz, Monyca Bryne Wickey, and Bruna Schmitz meet the girls at their amazing house in Biarritz, go to Les Halles Market, tour Roxy headquarters in St. Jean de Luz where they check out the recording studio where Emilie Layla Lovaine showcases her talents as both a musician and writer, surf at Cote des Basques in their Kassia Meador wetsuits, BBQ with the team riders, and have a jam session at the house.

Experience the journey with the Winners as they hang with the Roxy athletes, make friends, experience the culture, and celebrate their unique talents with each other.

On Day 2 of their adventures, the athletes surprise the winners with a trip to beautiful San Sebastian for tapas tasting, skateboarding , and soaking up the sun in their Roxy swim! Watch Madison Setiawan’s inspirational photo journey of the trip and stay tuned for more behind the scenes footage from behind her lens…more surprises on their way and not just for the Winners!

From bikes, to board shaping, and then onto baking…our 3 Let The Sea Set You Free Winners are always adventure bound. On Day 3 of their journey, the girls head to Hossegor where they get a tour of Euroglass from famous shaper Christian Bradley who surprises Americas winner Katie McLean with a board of her own, which she takes back to the house and puts her artistic skills to work on, followed by a beach visit, some French pastry making (yum!) and a nightcap in Biarritz for the legendary Roxy Pro France concert!

On Day 4, the Let The Sea Set You Free winners are beach bound as they head down to watch the last day of the Roxy Pro happening at the Le Grade Plage in Biarritz where they soak up the sun, watch some surf and cheer on team rider Sally Fitzgibbons. #GoSally

Before the Bastille Day fireworks celebration to end the night the girls head to the Roxy lounge with Kelia Moniz for all things art! Between getting their nails done, hair styled, and a little DIY crown making right on the beach you can sense the girls are sad but beyond blessed to have spent such an amazing a life-changing trip together! Featured Artist: Clams Casino

The New Jerseyite popularly known as Clams Casino (his friends and family call him Mike Volpe) has turned into one of hip-hop’s newest shining lights. Drawing more inspiration from chillwave artists such as Washed Out than from hip-hop’s traditional past, the producer/instrumentalist drops hazy beats that ebb and flow like sea tides — an ideal soundtrack for a mellow afternoon under the summer sun. And while you’re likely to hear Clams’ most popular work with Lil B and Mac Miller on the radio these days, he’s been sneakily releasing mix tapes of his instrumentals via Twitter that are definitely worth tracking down!
