What better way to kick to off the Roxy Waikiki Classic (happening this weekend), than to meet one of its local contenders? We caught up with Roxy Team Rider Vanina Walsh, who will be surfing in the Jr. Queens division and the wildcard spot in the ASP professional longboard division this weekend. At only 15 years old, Vanina is one of the youngest ASP contenders, and an inspiration for all the local girls in Hawaii.
“I’m looking forward to meeting and surfing with all the girls that are traveling here from all over the Islands and the mainland,” says Vanina. Not only is the Waikiki Classic fun with lots of stuff to do, but it is a great free event. With the state of the economy, it gives all the girls a chance to be part of the Roxy community and showcase their talent.”
Don’t be surprised if you find Vanina outside the lineup with her stand up paddle when she isn’t surfing her longboard heats. Vanina is just as talented and well-known in the stand up paddling arena. She just placed 2nd on the SUP World Tour event, and has won numerous SUP surf and race contests.
Vanina is an all-around watergirl and artist. She could even teach you a thing or two about bikini-making and painting. Come down to the event this weekend, and be sure to stop by and say hi to Vanina and our professional athletes Kelia Moniz, Lisa Andersen, Jen Smith, Rosy Hodge, and Monyca Bryne-Wickey.
See you there, and be sure to purchase your event tank at our stores in Waikiki!
