Download of the Week: Deep Time “Clouds”

Inspiration strikes in the strangest places. Deep Time used to be called YellowFever, releasing a totally likeable record and touring around the states (mostly their native Texas). Turns out they weren’t the first band to use that name, so, avoiding legal hot water, they changed their name to Deep Time. Seems like they rethought more than their name, finding a surprising new sound and a clear burst of inspiration. We’re all better off for it, and judging by lead single “Clouds,” their upcoming self-titled record is going to be outstanding.

Roxy team rider Sally Fitzgibbons won Australia’s first PedestrianTV Bachelorette of the Year 2012!

This is an exciting new win to add to her growing list of victories as she chases the coveted world title this year.

Last night, Sally accepted the award claiming “It’s a bit of an honour!”, and we couldn’t agree more! Thanks to all her friends for nominating Sally and all of Sally’s fans for their online voting support!

Featured Artist: Van She

Though they’ve sometimes been in the shadow of their australian label mates, Cut Copy, Van She are a robust, capable electropop band with a unique sound and an ear for an incredible remix. Their debut album, V, released way back in 2005, was a slow-burner dance record, taking its time to worm its way into your ear. After a long series of singles, they’re finally back with a fully-baked record, Idea of Happiness. It’ll be released July 10th, and we can’t wait to hear it!

Download of the Week: Dent May “Best Friend”

You may know Dent May as that ukulele-playing guy from Mississippi. However, with the release of his upcoming album, Do Things, it’s likely you’ll end up knowing him as that guy who also glides from genre to genre as gracefully as a gazelle glides across the African savanna. On the sprawling Do Things, May largely shelves his beloved ukelele in favor of charmingly cheesy keyboards, gentle electric guitars, and processed drums, and whether it’s a psychedelic-tinged tune or a disco-damaged slow jam, the results are consistently fun!

Summer Style Uncovered

Back in March we gave you an inside look at our Summer 2012 lookbook shoot here at Roxy headquarters in Huntington Beach, CA. Now it’s your chance to browse the finished product and do a little Summer shopping online to get yourself ready for the rays and waves…

Featured Artist: Sugar & Gold

Just as Sugar & Gold have been compared to the likes of MGMT, Hot Chip, and Ssion, the light electro-pop duo has created a form of danceable pop uniquely their own. Their catalog to date includes two LPs and two EPs, none of which have left our speakers for very long lately. After all, they sound awesome almost anywhere – in the car on the way to the beach, during a workout at the gym…or even on a Friday at work!

Frequencies Film Screening with Surfer Kassia Meador

Professional Roxy Surfer Kassia Meador teamed up with director Bruce Muller and cinematographer Sonny Miller and musical trio E.S.P. to present three short films from “Frequencies” at Sonos Studio in Los Angeles this week.

It was a full house for the pre-screening and needless to say, it was quite a show! Check out some of the pictures straight from the event, and if you haven’t had a chance to see the first of two shorts leading up to the official premiere of Frequencies, you can watch Early Echo and Reflections on the Roxy blog.

Stay tuned for more from Kassia Meador right here on the Roxy blog.

Paul Mitchell Beach Hair: Surf in the City to the Waves of Waikiki

Roxy Team riders Monyca Bryne-Wickey and Kelia Moniz were recently in the Big Apple for some Surf and the City action and were lucky enough to get a full hair makeover by our friends at Paul Mitchell (wait until you see the pictures!!).

They sampled products from Paul Mitchell’s Sun, Awapuhi Wild Ginger and Tea Tree collections.

Kelia’s favorite? The Tea Tree Tingle…just a little something we’re packing in our beach bags this Summer, and to keep our hair soft, shiny, and protected from the rays we’re throwing in Monyca’s pick, the Sun Shield Conditioning Spray!

Looks like the Roxy girls (& the Paul Mitchell team) will be bringing some of the City to Surf when they leave the likes of New York in search of sunshine & waves at the ROXY Waikiki Classic on June 15th -17th at Queens Beach! We’re so excited to have Paul Mitchell as our event sponsor this year. We’ll SEA you there…Registration is still open!
