Download of the Week: Zambri – “ICBYS”

Zambri are actually sisters, Cristi Jo and Jessica, who have been creating music together since they were children, always using the Zambri name. Their newest release, Glossolalia, was released late last year and is the first album they consider to be entirely their own, doing things how they want, just the two of them. Most of the sounds on the EP are homemade, many of which are built from vocals, which is perhaps what inspired the title (Glossolalia means speaking in tongues). Dreamy, a little dark, and always interesting, we’re definitely going to follow what these ladies do next. Check out their wild new single “ICBYS” (pronounced Ick-Bees) and see what we’re talking about.

Meet Roxy the Penguin

Meet Roxy, the newest addition to our Roxy family.

Roxy the penguin was recently rescued by the Long Beach Aquarium and as a thank you for Quiksilver & Roxy’s support over the years, we are now lucky enough to call her one of our own.

She’s black, she’s white, and best of all she loves the water so it was an honor to have such a beautiful animal named in honor or the Roxy brand.

We love her and hope you do too. You can visit Roxy the Penguin at her new home at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA.

Roxy Shooting Star: Week 3 Winners

As Oscar fever winds down, we’ve got a couple more videos to award in the Roxy Shooting Star video competition. This week’s winners are two girls who know how to ride their snowboards. Watch the videos, you’ll see what we mean. For the A Listers category (or the Actress in a Leading Role, if you will) Britt Horowitz takes the win, representing the University of Vermont Snowboard Team. Britt’s skills have earned her a brand new Roxy snow jacket. And winning the Local Celeb (Best Supporting Actress) is Caitlin Shaw, coming out of the snowy mountains of Revelstoke, British Columbia. Caitlin will need the new Roxy goggles she has won for all the powder face shots she’ll be getting for the rest of the season in BC.
There is officially only ONE MORE WEEK to submit your video. We have $1,750 up for grabs, as well as a ton of Roxy snowboards and outerwear. Riders of all levels are welcome! SHOPS, don’t forget to nominate one girl from your area to represent your shop and she could win you a few head-toe Roxy kits for the girls in the shop! The deadline to submit is midnight on March 4th.

Featured Artist: Fiend Without a Face

Sometimes it’s healthy to have a second identity, so when Brent Hinds isn’t scorching the stage as guitarist for fearsome metal warriors Mastodon, he turns down the volume to lead his own surf-rockabilly band, Fiend Without A Face. Hinds’ surfabilly is jangly and distortion-free, so given his classicist taste in one of rock’s oldest styles, Fiend’s fun instrumental “Tsunami” is the perfect match for our Spring 2012 Teenie Wahine clip!

Palm Springs, The Ace Hotel & Roxy girls = ROAD TRIP!

We took off for the desert last weekend to get a little vitamin D and of course spread the Roxy love! We stuffed our overnight bags with, bikinis, beach pants, and cropped tanks and hit the road.

The weekend was packed full of fun with DJ’s & live bands, fortune tellers and of course, poolside people-watching. We brought our leather beading and braiding supplies along with an array of feathers for all the guests to get creative with. Everyone loved it!

Of course, this trip is leaving all of us asking the same question……is summer here yet?!?

GO SALLY

In 2010, Roxy Team Rider Sally Fitzgibbons finished number 2 in the world. In 2011, she came within close reach of the world title, finishing second again, but ending the season with strong win at the US Open of Surfing.

This year, Sally is more determined than ever to capture that world title. Sally has been using this year to keep improving, working with coaches, training, and fine-tuning everything to prepare her for the season.

Already, Sally Fitzgibbons has kicked off the season with a victory at the Australian Open of Surfing at Manly. Last week, Sally was honored at the Australian Surfing Awards, with Female Surfer of the Year, an award that has been held by World Champions including Layne Beachley and Stephanie Gilmore.

Sally’s pre-season success is a great lead into the ASP Women’s World Tour of Surfing, and she is already making a big impression.

First stop, the 2012 Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast of Australia. Watch Sally live this week http://roxylive.com/roxyprogoldcoast/2012/, and Follow Sally’s pursuit of the 2012 Women’s World Championship on Roxy.com (http://blog.roxy.com/?s=sally+fitzgibbons) and on Twitter @Sally_Fitz

Snow video: P.S. …We love trees

Here’s another inspiring snow video to get you through the week. Roxy team rider Robin Van Gyn and friends Hana Beam, Annie Boulanger, and Leanne Pelosi spent last week in the mountains of B.C. hitting jumps and riding fun pillow lines. I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit jealous. They are livin’ the good life. Follow the P.S. girls here as their winter continues.

Roxy Refreshments: In the Park with Erin Comstock

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve posted a new Roxy Refreshment, but good things come to those who wait. This latest episode features the smooth, stylish riding of Roxy’s own Erin Comstock. After watching this video it’s easy to see why she’s been in more snowboard videos than any other woman in snowboarding, and she’s not done yet!
With this post we’d also like to send warm wishes to Erin, she’s traveling in Europe right now while she heals from an injury. Get well soon, Erin- we love you! xoxo

Download of the Week: Lissy Trullie “It’s Only You Isn’t It”

Since Lissy Trullie‘s 2009 EP Self-Taught Learner was one of our favorite debut records of the last few years, you know we’re super-excited that she’s finally about to put out a full-length release. Expect the upcoming self-titled album to feature another major dose of attitude, its infectious songs all fueled by Trullie’s signature brassy wail. This time around, the ex-model worked with a pair of top-tier producers – John Hill (Santigold, M.I.A., Shakira) and Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars) – and laid down all tracks in their Los Angeles studios. Look for the album soon!
