We can’t believe it’s taken us this long to spotlight Lana Del Rey, whose music seems tailor-made for us. Raised in the winter olympics village of Lake Placid in upstate New York, Del Rey (a.k.a. Lizzy Grant) struck out for less snowbound pastures as soon as she could; the singer-songwriter now splits her time between London and New York. Crafting elegant pop that sounds familiar – yet unlike anything else garnering airplay on the radio at the moment – Del Rey and her singular voice is already earning legions of fans with her moody hit single, “Video Games.”

Kassia Q&A

Before jetsetting to China we caught up with Roxy Team Rider and wetsuit designer Kassia Meador and found out what she’s most looking forward to about this new experience and new place! Here’s her answers from our Q&A…

Your going to China? Why? Yeah crazy right…I’m super excited about it…a place I never thought to go for surfing…but it turns out they have pretty rad waves… so excited!Swatch is putting together a contest with the ASP for us lady loggers over there so we’re all super jazzed for the opportunity and experience.

Have you been there before? No never been there before, so excited for a new experience

Whats your favorite thing about the WLT? The chance to go surfing in different places, get the local community stoked on surfing, meet new people and ride new waves.

Are you vegetarian? What kind of food do you eat there? No, I’m assuming a lot of rice, noodles, vegetables and chicken…

How long are you going for? Any other plans while your there? I’m going over for 10 days. When I’m not surfing I’m going to be checking out as much as I possibly can, shooting photos and exploring…

Who’s your biggest competition at this event? There are a lot of really great surfers in the event…so everyone!

Do you believe in good luck charms? Are you taking any? Sometimes… I might bring a lil sumthang sumthang

Is it warm or are you bringing your Roxy wetsuit? I think its pretty warm but ill probably bring one of my Roxy jackets and a long arm spring…

What is you ritual to prepare you for a heat? I don’t really have one…sometimes I listen to music or talk to people…or try to find a wave that looks fun to surf so I can pick my spot for my session.

What will you do with $10,000 prize money if you win? Probably buy a rad camera and put the rest away for a sick surf trip somewhere…

Thanks Kass! Good Luck!

Roxy Guest Blogger: Kaitlin

Hey Roxy Girls! My name is Kaitlin, and those who know me would say that I live a Roxy Girl lifestyle.  I am absolutely in love with everything outdoors- the beach, playing sports, long-boarding my neighborhood’s hills, and outdoor concerts.  Art (especially photography) and music (especially reggae) are my passion, and I am currently studying in the field of graphic design.  I like to be unique, and fashion is just one of the ways that allows me to do so.  I am very inspired by other Roxy girls like you, so I am hoping to share a bit about my life and some of the things I love in the fashion world right now!

One of the most unique pieces in my closet is Roxy’s Hipster Doll Dress.  This dress is so versatile considering its removable straps and its capability of being dressed up or dressed down. To dress this stunning maxi dress up try playing around with accessories: silver bangles, a studded headband, or even some strappy wedges.  To dress down try an oversized sweater, like the Malachite Sweater, which is super trendy for this season.  As summer has quickly faded into a crisp fall, you may be grasping at every chance to wear your favorite summer items one last time (I know I am!) Don’t fret! Pair your favorite August tank, like the Koi Tank, with a new pair of October jeans, like the Skinny Slides Jeans, and a light sweater- you’ll give off a summer glow on a fall night out!

Have a marvelous Friday, Roxy Girls! -Kaitlin

Hanna from Canada Takes Home a Double Victory!

Just a quick update on how the weekend went for our Roxy Canada surfers at the Queen of the Peak event in Tofino. To set the stage: Tofino boasts some amazing female surf talent for being a tiny remote Canadian community.

These girls could hold their own in warm temperature contests (and some of them do spend the balance of the year in Indonesia and Hawaii’s North Shore).

Over 50 girls competed so it was a well-deserved double victory for Roxy Canada’s Hanna Scott who won both the shortboard and longboard category.

Roxy Canada’s Catherine Bruhwiler, the local legend, surfed really well but as contests sometimes go, she had a tougher time in the final heat yet still finished with a very impressive 3rd in longboard and 4rd in shortboard.

This week the girls kicked off a unique 3-day Roxy boat trip. First stop is an intimidating and remote Canadian wave (intimidating by world standards) seen here on the cover of Surfer.

Stay tuned for more from the boat trip…

Torah Bright: So Long Spring…

Pretty sunset at home in AUS. Going to miss you!

After a couple action packed weeks in New Zealand riding the pipe and jumps and airbags up at Snow Park everyday I’m back in OZ for a quick family fix before heading back north for the start of that winter season. So for the past few days I’ve been drinking it all in.

Hanging out with my nieces, going on bush walks and getting styled by my little sister. She’s my hair stylist, I know I know, a long way to go to get your hair done but she’s amazing and worth the trip!

Definitely going to miss this place and the long Australian summers but am also getting really excited for winter to start hammering us with pow!

Cheers, Torah

Download of the Week: Correatown “Further”

Available 10/19 – 10/26: Correatown “Further”

With a name derived from singer Angela Correa’s last name, Los Angeles’ Correatown has become the latest buzz band in the city’s thriving music scene. Rounded out by Mike Corwin, Jenni Tarma, and Rob Poynter, the quartet crafts dreamy soundscapes like on single “Further.” We think it sounds awesome after a night spent driving L.A.’s never-empty streets. We’ve quickly become major fans of the band’s quietly emotional new album, Etch The Line.
