After a few fun weeks in the states, I’m back in the southern hemi for round two of winter. Well, actually springtime. I’m back in Wanaka with my brother Benny and fellow Aussie Scotty James to ride for the last bit of spring shredding. So far so good. We’ve been having heaps of fun in Wanaka, riding at Treble Cone and Snowpark and just being back in the scene. Cardrona is hosting private halfpipe and airbag sessions the first two weeks of October so a bunch of the international riders are also making their way back to New Zealand for slushie spring pipes and jumps before winter starts up again in the northern hemisphere. Should be fun to ride with everyone again!
The snow team girls cruised down to the office last week to check out next years 2012/13 snow line and to talk about ideas for 2013/14 outerwear. That’s right, I said 2013/14. It’s hard to wrap your head around where trends will be 2 years from now, so there is no one better for the task than our talented snow girls. They live and breath the mountain lifestyle, trend scouting snow fashion is second nature to them. Sarah Burke, Erin Comstock, and Robin Van Gyn gathered together with our talented design team to start work on what will inevitably be an amazing collection.
It wasn’t all future-talk, the girls also took some time to go over our new 2011/12 Snow Collection that launched earlier this month. Everyone agreed that the Torah Bright pant is a perfect pant, and the they love the longer fitting coats, like Brooke, Unity, and Wild. Sarah and Robin both spend their winters in the cold and wet Whistler mountains, so they are both looking forward to staying extra warm with the Cypher heating jacket.
Mountain dwellers revel in the chance to clock in some beach time, so during down time the girls hopped in the Roxy cruck and headed to the beach to catch some waves.
Malaysian-via-London songstress Zee Avi started writing her new album, Ghostbird, in her Brooklyn kitchen in summer 2010. Soon enough, she followed the winds south to the balmy waters of Florida’s Everglades, where she discovered a near-endless source of muses. Fast-forward to this past March, when she and producer Mario Caldato, Jr. (well-known for his work with the Beastie Boys) laid down 11 tracks in only two weeks – including the album’s closing number, “Stay In The Clouds,” written on the final day of recording. Now that ghostbird is out, catch Avi on tour across the U.S. this month!

I’m really excited that the new HP ePrint campaign has launched and the commercial is playing in Australia and NZ. Have a look and let me know what you think!
The whole campaign was a lot of fun to shoot and I’m getting a lot of use from my printer lately – whoever thought I’d be able to send stuff from my phone to my mum’s printer on the other side of the world… Oh and I love love love that my mum has a cameo in the commercial! Hope you enjoy the commercial as much as I do and stay posted for more….there are a few versions in the mix.

Doheny State Beach was packed over the weekend with SUP fans and competitors alike for the fourth annual Battle of the Paddle September 24th & 25th.
The morning started with a 9am Elite Race and the newest addition to the Battle of the Paddle this year. This elite course is a multiple lap circuit that includes paddling through the surf and beaching equipment for a short, flagged sand run.
Only the top ten women advance, and Roxy’s Stand Up Paddle team did not disappoint. Advancing to the finals in the afternoon was Roxy’s very own Talia Gangini, one of the youngest riders out there, who came in with a 3rd place finish, while fellow Roxy’s Gillian Gilbree was right behind her.
Both girls moved on to the afternoon finals and Gillian overtook the 5th position from Talia who took 6th in the last round.
Roxy’s stand up Paddler Vanina Walsh also participated in the 2011 Baddle of the Paddle over the weekend. Vanina took two 1st places in the 13-14 girls and a 4th in the 18 and under girls stock board race.
Vanina was also given a special award for being the most inspirational female paddler!
Congrats to 17-year-old Kaitlyn Bachiller for winning the grand prize in our Macy’s Sweepstakes! Kaitlyn got to learn to surf with surf team rider Kelia Moniz and got a Macy’s Roxy $200 shopping trip to top it off. See below for their fun day out in Queens Beach, Hawaii! A special thanks to Kaitlyn’s mom who brought the crew homemade banana-croissant bread pudding!
If you’re a fan of Wavves, Best Coast, and the Soft Pack, but haven’t run across the Franks yet, you’ve been missing out. The trio busted onto the Los Angeles scene three years ago and hasn’t stopped to take a breath since. Their maximum-fun EP, Duh, may clock in at only ten minutes, but its five songs are sure to scorch your ears as they fuel your next surf session. Listen for their blistering single, “Ray Gun Radio,” hammering away in the background of the final episode of our California Trippin’ series
