Download Of The Week: Veronica Falls, “Come on Over”

Available 8/17 – 8/24: Veronica Falls “Come On Over”

Self-described “noir pop” outfit Veronica Falls leans on the dynamic interplay between male and female vocals, propulsive rhythms, and crisp guitars as they channel high- and low-profile legends alike – the Velvet Underground and the Aislers Set may spring to mind on first listen. The British quartet has signed with Oakland label Slumberland for its stateside full-length debut, due in mid September, but its advance single, the chugging “Come on Over,” is available now!

Torah Bright: Stuck in New Zealand

Stuck in Queenie!

After an amazing trip to New Zealand and days of lapping the park up at Snow Park with Scotty James, Jake, and Benny, I got ready to head back to Australia only to get trapped in Queenstown. This storm is turning out to be the storm of the decade or century for New Zealand with cancelled flights for days and days. Not a bad place to be trapped, but when you’re ready to go you’re ready to go. So, after delays and canceled flights, I’ve finally made it back home to Cooma and am in sunny Perisher for a few days before I head down to Melbourne for the Chalet Girl movie. Busy, busy but it’s nice to be home relaxing with the fam.

Perisher’s Pipe…

In other Bright family news, my brother and coach, Benny won the NZ World Heli Challenge. He’s such and amazing rider and it was so much fun to be a part of his win. Yeah Benny! Check out his winner’s interview here!

Cheers, Torah

Packing for The Roxy Beach House

The Roxy girls are gearing up to make the cross-country journey to the Quiksilver Pro, NY 2011 for some fun-filled times at the Roxy Beach House, but the inevitable first step to any trip is the all-important bag packing.

I’ve decided that instead of creating a melodrama out of packing my hefty suitcase, that will keep me well-dressed for countless beach days in Long Beach, NY, Roxy Fashion Night Out, and all the other great parties soon to come, I’m going to  make this fun and shop Roxy.com for all the latest and greatest!

I always like to try and carry my bag on, but unfortunately that’s not an option for this trek so I’m taking my sturdy Cruise Ahead Upright Roller Bag in this black & white checkered pattern that happens to match my lovely laptop case- an essential when working away from the office (Equinox Bag)!  Some key pieces I’ll be sure to pack are this solid black Moroccan tri-top bikini. It will be the perfect basic to layer under my Criss Cross Tank and beach cover-ups like The Past Dress. This dress is a great option to transform from a day-at-the-beach to a night-on-the-town. For a little sun and weather protection I’m grabbing a pair of these chic kitty kat sunglasses and a Coast Line fleece Hoodie for those nighttime concerts & early morning yoga sessions!

Featured Artist: Leftover Cuties

Featured Track: Places to Go
Album: Places To Go
Myspace: /leftovercuties
Facebook: /Leftover.Cuties

Some things in life – California sunsets, love songs, and the ukulele, to rattle off just a few – have eternal appeal. The music of Los Angeles’ Leftover Cuties embodies all that goodness and more on their debut album, the freshly released Places To Go. Produced by Tony Berg (whose legendary resumé includes Peter Gabriel, Michael Penn, Jesca Hoop, and the Replacements), the album’s eleven breezy, happy-go-lucky songs evoke simple fun, like a carefree stroll on the beach or an easygoing hike with a few friends. We think you’ll agree they’re the perfect soundtrack choice for the first episode of our “California Trippin‘” video series!

Roxy Guest Blogger: Danielle

What are fun, bold, and invading everything from the streets to the red carpet? Tribal prints!

The best thing about this raging trend? The many different ways it presents itself.

Everything from the most recognizable geometric print, to abstract bends and curves can be classified under the large branch known as “tribal prints”. It can be appropriate for any occasion as well! Check out the eye-catching ensemble Mila Kunis wore to a  recent red carpet event. Or, opt for a super cute bikini to show off at the beach, like the Fire Dance Ruffle Bandeau Bikini. Chilly outside? Throw on a light jacket to fend off the cold. Roxy’s Bonfire Spirit Icon Jacket sports adorable tribal detailing, making it stand out against the crowd.

Tribal prints don’t have to be limited to apparel, either. Check out some of Roxy’s many tribal-printed bags. One of my personal faves is the Factory Rucksack Backpack, which is a perfect addition to any back-to-school shopping list.

Don’t forget to have fun while playing with tribal prints. Since there are so many variations in patterns and designs, they are incredibly versatile. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your style- you may be surprised to see how well certain pieces work together!

Download Of The Week: I Break Horses “Winter Beats”

Available 8/10 – 8/17: I Break Horses “Winter Beats”

Taking their name from a Smog song, Stockholm’s I Break Horses crafts warm sounds from cold Scandinavian days and nights. Although you may catch traces of Slowdive or the Helio Sequence in the duo’s glittering synths, electronic beats, and especially Maria Lindén’s alluring vocals, the nine tracks that make up I Break Horses’ debut album Hearts pulse with originality. The record was methodically made over the course of a couple years, and we think you’ll find it ideal for pushing forward on the treadmill or simply getting out of bed in the morning!
