Download of the Week: Marissa Nadler “The Sun Always Reminds Me Of You”

Available 6/29 – 7/6: Marissa Nadler “The Sun Always Reminds Me Of You”

After enjoying a run of four critically acclaimed albums on Kemado Records – and having one of her songs inspire the name for the label’s vinyl-only imprint, Mexican Summer – Marissa Nadler has ventured out on her own for her new, self-titled release. Funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign that saw Nadler’s devoted fans donate to support recording costs, the album finds the Boston singer-songwriter a little more upbeat – look no further than the buoyant new single, “The Sun Always Reminds Me Of You,” available free right here. The album was just released on June 14, and you can currently catch Nadler on a national tour this summer.

Roxy and Neutrogena Host Summer Surf Camp In Malibu

This past weekend, Roxy and Neutrogena teamed up to host a surf camp at Sunset Beach in Malibu, California to bring awareness to skin health.  Neutrogena’s “Choose Skin Health” campaign resonated with the Roxy brand and we thought it was important to get the word out.  Roxy and Neutrogena invited LA-based media and influencers and kicked off the weekend on Friday evening with a dinner at one of the hottest places to go in Malibu, Gladstone’s.  After enjoying a 3 course meal of delicious appetizers, entrees and dessert in the Sunset Room, guests enjoyed an intimate, live performance by Costa Rican singer/songwriter Debi Nova.  We, of course, stayed around after for the party that Gladstone’s throws on Friday nights!

Saturday morning, after a hearty breakfast provided by Gladstone’s, guests took to the waves with Roxy team riders Jen Smith and Amy Murphree.  In addition to learning how to surf and seeing Roxy’s summer collection, guests were treated to a lesson on summer skin health and products courtesy of Neutrogena.  Editors and journalists from LA Confidential, Thrillist, People Magazine, Fuel TV, Foam, KIIS FM, PopSugar.com, Surfer and other outlets were on hand to catch all of the action and participate in this amazing event.

Frolicking on the Fourth

Independence Day is all about the fireworks, parades, BBQS, sunshine, and of course the famous Red, White, & Blue! There’s no better way to pay tribute to this American holiday than by showing off these famous colors in your outfit of choice for the day, so we’re making an ode to this holiday by picking out some clever possibilities that should help ignite your holiday spirit!

Our first option is a pair of dark blue denim shorts like the Desert Suns- the perfect patriotic choice- and pairing it with a light tank top. This is an easy outfit to throw over your favorite swimsuit and hop on a bike. For some light tank top choices go for the Buzzing Tank in blue. The burnout fabric and razor back will make it your new favorite tank top (trust me!). Another light option is the Crescent Peak Tank. It’s nautical-inspired striped design, back detailing, and bead accents give this comfy look some extra pow!

Although our last tank choice isn’t red or blue the Surfs Up Tank is both white and striped, therefore a major contender. I love that it’s part sweater, part tank, and totally wearable!

If you want to dress it up a bit more, here are two dress-me-up options: The first is the Clueless Dress which happens to boast the perfect color combination with some flirty smocked, off-the-shoulder detailing. The second option is the Coast is Clear dress. It’s an adorable striped , lightly belled, long-sleeved dress that will double-up as a cute fireside tunic for Fall and Winter.

Have fun celebrating this amazing Holiday!!!

Featured Artist: The Growlers

Album: Hot Tropics
Featured Track: “American Walkabout”
Myspace: /lbcgrowlers
Facebook: /losgrowlers
Label: Everloving

Formed five years ago in Long Beach, California, the Growlers deliver steady-rolling songs that lean heavily on Brooks Nielson’s reverb-soaked vocals, Matt Taylor’s twangy guitar, and even a bit of farfisa organ here and there. The band’s 2010 album, Hot Tropics, features a quick succession of blink-and-you’ll-miss-‘em tunes that owe a strong debt to 1960s psychedelic rock and roll.

Roxy Guest Blogger: Danielle

As the temperature climbs and school ends, road trips are making there way into everyone’s schedules! Here are a few tips to make your road trip (or lengthy car ride) as fun as can be!

1. Dress comfortably! Tight clothing may look cute, but can easily become uncomfortable after a few hours of sitting in a cram-packed car. Instead, opt for light clothing that can be layered. Try wearing a cute maxi skirt, like the Earth and Sky Skirt, which is as comfy as any pair of sweatpants, yet way more stylish! Pair it with a breezy tank like the Heatwave Tank, and you can keep cool and comfy the whole ride through.

2. Pack lightly! Try sticking to a single bag (as hard as it is) in order to maximize leg room- I personally love my Wanderer Duffle Bag!

3. Pack some shades! Not only do sunglasses act as great accessories, they also protect your eyes from dangerous UV rays (yes, they can pass through car windows). Roxy’s Charlie Sunglasses are a great choice!

4. Pack some tunes that everyone can agree on! Also, it’s a great idea to pack portable speakers, like the new JBL On Stage Speakers, so that you can take your music wherever you go on your stops.

5. Pack some snacks and drinks! Nothing’s worse than being stuck in a car with hungry (and therefore, grumpy) people!

6. Know where you’re going! Don’t forget to pack maps and/or a GPS!

Happy tripping, Roxy girls!

Torah Bright: Lake Powell

Last week, I went to Lake Powell for a much needed summer adventure and a getaway from home improvements. I’ve lived in Utah for a long time now and this was my first trip down there and it was absolutely amazing! If you’ve never been I highly recommend it. We did the whole Lake Powell experience, renting a houseboat and jet skis; cruising around the millions of years of sandstone channels, jumping off cliffs, swimming and just taking in the massiveness of it all. So beautiful! Here are a few of the hundreds of photos I took throughout the week. Enjoy and get yourself there as soon as possible!

Houseboat living!

Cruising around the canyons on our jet skis.

Lounging on the rooftop

Cheers, Torah

Download Of The Week: Gardens & Villa “Star Fire Power”

Available 6/22 – 6/29: Gardens & Villa “Star Fire Power”

Tailoring their name to the band’s birthplace – garden-lined Villa Street in Santa Barbara, California – Gardens & Villa’s lazily convivial music is very much a product of the coastal city the foursome calls home. Bandmembers Chris Lynch, Adam Rasmussen, Levi Hayden, and Shane McKillop took a break from beachfront bike rides, dance parties, and their supportive local music scene to spend two weeks camped behind the Oregon studio of Secretly Canadian labelmate Richard Swift (leader of the late, great Starflyer 59, and now a rising solo artist) in summer 2010, tracking their debut self-titled album for the powerhouse indie label. Perhaps because it was recorded nearly one thousand miles north of Southern California, the album became a long-distance love letter to the band’s beloved hometown – hear for yourself on this week’s free single, “Star Fire Power.”

More Ways Than One

We all need a little extra versatility in our lives- a chance to play up our personality or daily disposition; Something to keep our creativity alive and those around us always guessing and wanting more.

Take for example, a dress that allows you to wear it more ways that one- on or off the shoulders, it’s really whatever your heart desires! The Roxy Natives Only dress is just that and so much more. With the elastic band around the waist, it creates a flattering figure for all body types, the choice of two delicious color options- Hot Lava or Sea Salt, and adorable ruffle detailing! Did we mention you can wear it on or off the shoulders or why not just one??

To make this Little Beach Dress even more you- we suggest pairing it with your favorite color of the Roxy Kinda Shady Sun Hat, a statement belt, jewelry galore, and some funky flip flops. For some extra inspiration take notes from some real Roxy girls showing off their Natives Only looks!
