We are so proud of our girl Sally! From the official press release:
(Huntington Beach, CA) – April 29, 2011 — Roxy surfer Sally Fitzgibbons continues to dominate the ASP Women’s World Tour as she claims her second consecutive win at the Subaru Pro TSB Bank Women’s Surf Festival in New Zealand.
Charging into the finals amidst a wave of near perfect scores and flawless performances, Australian-born Fitzgibbons was high on confidence in familiar waters and it translated in her final heat against Hawaii’s Carissa Moore, who until today held the top position on the women’s tour. With today’s win, Fitzgibbons moved into the number one position on the 2011 Women’s World Tour.
“I am just so overwhelmed,” Sally stated. “It’s an incredibly feeling. I just tried to have fun out there and do my best. It’s like a dream right now.”
“Sally is on fire!” said Danielle Beck, Vice President of Roxy, Marketing “We are so excited! Sally has had winning on the mind for years and we really feel like this is her year.”
Congratulations to Sally Fitzgibbons for her incredible performance these past few weeks. Next up for the Roxy pro surfer is a trip back home for the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic.
Riding a different kind of mountain. Disneyland’s Matterhorn was one of our favorites.
After spending a few stormy days in Mammoth with Jake, who was shooting photos for Snowboarder Mag, we headed south to spend the Easter weekend with my family at Disneyland. It really is the happiest place on earth. I had so much fun with my niece Rylee, running around from ride to ride, getting our faces painted and picking up a pair of Mini Mouse ears too (of course).
Mouseketteer!
Now, I’m back in Utah enjoying some of this late season pow, doing a little backcountry touring and getting in a few laps at Snowbird. Happy spring!
In an exciting moment for women’s action sports, snowboarder Ty Walker re-signs to Roxy for a three-year deal which elevates her from Grom to Pro Snow Team rider at the young age of 14. The terms of the deal include boards, outerwear and eyewear.
“Ty is a rare bird–she has the confidence and wisdom of a seasoned pro, while at such a young age her love and excitement for snowboarding is still so fresh,” said Amber Stackhouse, Roxy Snow Team Manager. “It’s fun to be around her and see how fired up she is about riding, learning and pushing the sport.”
“Being a pro on the Roxy team has always been one of my biggest goals. To me, they are all about style, progression, having fun while snowboarding and doing what you love. These are things I really try to demonstrate in my riding,” said Walker. “Roxy is really unique because it’s an all girls company that promotes women in a male dominated sport and riding for them is a dream come true.”
As a Roxy Grom, Ty Walker proved to have an outstanding start to the year, so far. She most recently took home first place in Slopestyle at the 2011 USASA Nationals at Copper Mountain, Colorado in the Open Class Division and won the 2011 Roxy Powder Jam at Mammoth Mountain, California. Other accolades include winning first place at the European Open Junior Jam for the last three years in a row (2011, 2010 and 2009) and placing third in at the Canadian Open Pro Division Slopestyle.
Following the rigorous contest season, Walker immediately attended Snowboarder Magazine’s Ms. Superpark, a Red Bull Training Camp in Lake Tahoe, California. She is now back in school and finishing the 8th grade with her friends in Stowe, Vermont. When she’s not traveling the world, honing her snowboarding skills or earning straight-As in school, Walker can be found spending time with her family, on the trampoline, co-captaining the girl’s field hockey game or playing first-base on the (almost) all-boys baseball team.
Available 4/27 – 5/4: Class Actress “Careful What You Say”
Buried in the DNA of Class Actress’s music are some familiar sounds: the synth pop of Depeche Mode and New Order, the playfulness and poise of ’80s Madonna, and the desolate echoes of Mazzy Star. Comprised of singer Elizabeth Harper and producer Mark Richardson – and an eBay-worthy collection of vintage synths – the band recently released its debut EP, Journal Of Ardency, that’s received rave reviews. We’ve had their single “Careful What You Say” on repeat for a few weeks now, and we’re excited to report that a full length is finally on the way.

Check out some behind the scenes footage with Blue Crush 2’s star Sasha Jackson! Can you spot the Roxy bikinis?
Needless to say, we’re excited about June 7th, when we can finally pick up the Blue Crush 2 DVD! Who knows…maybe we’ll even do a give-away for some copies for everyone right here…
The Roxy Womens Longboard event during the Ron Jon’s Easter Surf Fest this past weekend was a huge success with thousands of girls lining up to meet and greet 2007 and 2009 World Longboard Champion Jennifer Smith and catch some amazing surfing. East Coast girls were excited and inspired to chat with Jen and get advice on how to have a successful career as a surfer and get free posters and autographs from some of the Roxy team on the beach and at Ron Jons in Cocoa Beach, Fl! To back that up, Jen put her own advice to good use by winning the Easterfest Longboard contest in front of thousands of fans. Roxy surfers Amy Murphee and Savannah Bradley also met Jen in the finals and placed second in Longboard and third in Shortboard respectively. Way to go team Roxy!
Album: We Can Build An Island
Featured Track: “Crushes”
Record Label: Sidecho
Myspace: /charlemagne
Charlemagne started with just one guy: Carl Johns, who worked out of his home studio in Madison, Wisconsin between jobs and with whomever he could find. After the success of his debut album, Detour Allure, he relocated to Brooklyn, got a solid band, and started recording his new and improved line-up. The result is We Can Build An Island, recorded live to analog tape in just two weeks. Featuring surf guitar and backbeats straight out of the Velvet Underground, it’s one of our favorite soundtracks for heading to the beach.
Roxy team rider Sally Fitzgibbons claims her first ASP World Tour event victory at world famous Bells Beach over the weekend. In pumping 4 foot surf Sally took down Stephanie Gilmore in the semi-final and Carissa Moore in the final to win the second event of the year of the 2011 Women’s World Tour. Sally now sits 2nd in the ASP World Tour rankings as she heads to New Zealand for the third stop of the Tour in Taranaki. Its a very tight race between 1st and 2nd place with Sally sitting just a mere 1500 points behind Carissa Moore. The battle heats up at the next stop in Taranaki. Look for Sally to stay on top all year and hopefully bring home the World Title! Stay tuned to Roxy.com for updates on Sally’s World Title quest!
This season, I’ve been taking a step back from contests to work on my new 2-years-in-the-making film project and to ride a whole bunch of different terrain. Last week, I spent sometime up in Logan, Utah to access some fun backcountry spots and to ride my snowmobile. I love, love, love my snowmobile and Jake’s teaching me how to hit small cornices on it. I’ve had some pretty funny crashes dropping things here and there but am stoked to get better. Pretty soon I’m going turn into a sledneck
Getting unstuck!
The only downfall about my fellow slednecks is that one of the days we went to hit a jump we’d built and a bunch of snowmobilers had tracked out our landing, so we couldn’t shoot. But if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em and if all goes well I’ll be launching off backcountry booters on my sled and snowboard in no time.
Available 4/20-4/27: Golden Dogs “As Long As You Like”
Toronto’s Golden Dogs needed a break after constant touring and being released from their record deal. With no specific direction in mind and no pressure to record, the band eventually drifted back into the studio with their friends Carlin Nicholson and Mike O’Brien (better known as the indie rock band Zeus ) at the helm. Recording in this low pressure environment resulted in some of the Dogs’ strongest songs, as evidenced by the bright new Coat Of Arms, which will be released on the 26th. Extra credit goes to Jessica Grassia, who joins Don Henley, Phil Collins and Karen Carpenter on the short list of drummers who are also lead singers. You go, girl!
