Last week in at the U.S.Open of snowboarding at Statton, Vermont Kjersti Buaas solidified her reputation as the most well rounded woman in snowboard competition. She finished top five in slopestyle and half pipe and won the rail jam. That’s right, I said she won the rail jam. To any of you who are familiar with Kjersti’s career, she’s never actually been that into riding rails. But this was no ordinary rail set-up, Stratton brought out the big (snow) guns and built a four story architectural wonder, complete with 4 rail set-ups, 2 quarter pipes and a massive hip– so for a girl who excels in both pipe and slope, this was a dream situation. Kjersti threw down rail combos, big air-to-fakies on the quarters and a huge and and stylish frontside 540 stalefish on the hip to put her the top of the podium.
Kjersti’s versatility also landed her on one more podium last week. She garnered 3rd place in the overall 2011 Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour. Way to go Kjersti, we’re very proud of you!
In related news, 11 year old Roxy team rider, Maddie Mastro won 2nd place in the U.S. Open Junior Jam. This was Maddie’s first trip out east, traveling all the way from Wrightwood, CA, and it was well worth the effort.
See both Kjersti and Maddie ride next week at the Roxy Chicken Jam in Mammoth, CA!
