Roxy Am team rider, Kirby Kelly, took home gold in the superpipe this weekend at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour at Tyrol Basin. This win qualifies her for a spot in the Dew Tour superpipe finals in Snowbasin, Utah later this month. Way to go, Kirby and best of luck in Utah!!

Cincinnati’s Pomegranates began as a fun project between two friends, Jacob Merritt and Isaac Karns. Eventually, the group grew into a four-piece with the inclusion of Joey Cook and, most recently, Dan Lyon. Over a span of two years, the band released two albums, 2008’s Everything Is Alive and 2009’s Everybody, Come Outside!, both of which drew immediate attention and critical praise. Their newest album, One Of Us, is more mature, assured and intense. 2011 Quiksilver Rincon Classic Presented by Channel Islands Surfboards

Santa Barbara (CA) January 2011 – Santa Barbara County’s oldest and most revered surfing competition returns to the fabled cobblestones of Rincon Point this winter for the 2011 Quiksilver Rincon Classic presented by Channel Islands Surfboards. The waiting period for the 28th annual event begins on Saturday and Sunday January 8 & 9. The best surfers in the county will be gathering to celebrate the spirit of Aloha within our community while competing for pride, divisional titles, and heaps of prizes. It is with great honor that the Rincon Classic event producers, Surf Happens, have partnered with community minded sponsors to create the best event in the history of the Rincon Classic.

The Rincon Classic is an all ages pro-am event featuring divisions from the Gremlins 11 & under to the Legends 55 and up. Specialty divisions include the Professional division, and new to the Classic is the Gunshow. The Gunshow is a 45 minute free surf featuring the top professional surfers in the 805 surfing at Rincon. Also on tap for the weekend open to competitors and spectators alike are Quiksilver wetsuit demos, surfboard demos by Channel Islands Surfboards, J7 and Rincon Designs, and environmental booths.

It’s been a few years since we last heard from French dance-pop outfit Yelle, but they’re about to return with a long-awaited second album, Safari Disco Club, which will be released in March. Fronted by Julie Budet (aka Yelle) and backed up by producers Jean-Francois Perrier and Tanguy Destable, Yelle know how to bring the beat and keep the party going. The new single, “Safari Disco Club”, pops with the same spirit of fun as the band’s breakout album Pop-Up did back in 2007. A little more grown up but still capable of packing a dance floor, this trio will probably be everywhere this year. One of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to change up your look and stay on trend is by letting your tips do the talking…fingertips that is! And according to Refinery 29- my reference for all things hip and cool- 2011 will be a year of nudes, blues, pinks, lavenders, grays and topcots with a little extra punch. I have to admit, after I read this, I got a bit inspired and went home to paint my nails a super sheer glossy nude and I am quite obsessed. It’s refreshing to see some paler, softer hues after seasons of bold darks and eye-blinding brights. So go ahead and spread the love for the spring season…right on down to your fingertips!

The original Mascot Halfpipe Contest is back as a serious battle with a new set of rules! Are you ready to bring your furry-feathery-hairy-scary self to the Mammoth Super Duper Pipe?

The competition is fur sure gonna be stiff this year because you never know who’s behind that gorilla mask or bunny suit! Past competitors include Todd Richards (Chicken), Trevor Jacob (Gorilla), Luke Wynen (The Hot Dog) and Greg Bretz (The Huskie).

Contest details
The Mascot Halfpipe Contest is one of the most popular events of the Roxy Chicken Jam weekend. Contestants will get one run-of-glory in Mammoth’s 22-foot Super Duper Pipe. The winner takes home $3000! Runner up will get $2000 and 3rd gets $1000! There is also a $100 bonus for best costume.

Come to the Mammoth Super Duper Pipe on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00am and get ready to hoot and holler for your favorite mascot!

Please keep in mind that Roxy is taking the 2011 Mascot Contest VERY SERIOUSLY this year and is applying a few new rules:

• Every mascot contestant MUST have a head to go with the body. The bigger the head, the bigger your chance to win.
