Freeskier Sarah Burke Wins Fourth Gold Medal In Women’s Superpipe Event!
We are thrilled to congratulate snow team rider, Sarah Burke, on her amazing performance in Aspen, striking gold in the SuperPipe event at Winter X Games 15. Canadian-born Sarah took her fourth X Games gold medal in the Women’s Skiing SuperPipe in her first major competition since a sidelining shoulder injury and surgery in early March 2010.
Known as a pioneer of women’s freeskiing, Sarah’s win in her comeback competition reinforces her position as the world’s top female freeskier. Going into the Women’s Skiing Superpipe finals, Sarah was ranked 6th from the qualifier. The first run was marred by a fall but the win came on an epic solid second run executing a 900, back-to-back flairs and a 720. Sarah’s 9 measured 11 feet out on the pipe, the highest trick of the night. Sarah’s final score was 91.33 making her the only competitor to break 90, claiming the gold medal. The accomplishment was all the more notable since rehabilitation from injury forced Sarah to only begin pipe practice five days before the X Games.
“I think I’m happier about this win than any other win I’ve had,” states Sarah Burke referring to her comeback.
