Her blistering solos and signature sound stand up to any male axe slinger you can think of. At one point she almost lost (!) the recordings for her third (self-titled) album. Luckily they were recovered, and the result is a scorching collection of rock anthems that combine a huge arena-ready sound with punk aggression. A native of Ridgwood, NJ, he spends the majority of his time touring with his band Real Estate and recording quiet songs in the basement of his parent’s house under the name Ducktails. His third LP, Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics, will be released by Woodsist Records in January. Its slow, dreamy songs are the perfect soundtrack for carving out fresh powder. We can’t wait to hit the slopes with this one!

Five years ago, Caroline Lufkin walked away from a lucrative major label contract that virtually guaranteed the same kind of bright-light super-stardom achieved by her sister Olivia, a household name in the girls’ native Japan. Determined to be the master of her own destiny, Caroline took a slower path, writing, performing and recording her own songs, thereby owning her successes and failures. As a musician and vocalist in the band Mice Parade, she’s learned collaboration and arrangement techniques. Her upcoming solo album, Verdugo Hills, builds on those skills – as well as her already strong composition chops – and will be released in January on Temporary Residence. With a classic sense of style and innocence, Caroline’s albums are always worth a listen!

Last week, Roxy team rider Torah Bright stopped by the New York Showroom to meet with Fawnia Soo Hoo from Racked.com to discuss how she works it on the mountain and in the office.  In Racked.com’s column “Working It”, you can check out Torah and the Roxy team’s signature work wardrobes and snow styles here.

I spent a few minutes this week catching up with Brooke, our resident guru in all things Wintersports, and she brought me up to speed on the top styles for this snow season.

What are the main trends for slope style this season? Richer colors, such as sangria, mixed with subtle metallics and luxurious fabrics, are trending for jackets. Slim fit, stretch outwear pants are a must- have too.

What is your must-have item for the holiday season? Roxy’s Navy Academy Deluxe snow jacket- a beautiful lurex yarn dyed plaid paired with the Energy slim fit pant. Both of these are my go-to’s this season for making me feel comfortable in regards to fashion and function on the slope.

Do you have any exciting plans for the holidays this year? This is the first year I am not traveling to my home state of Michigan for the holidays so I am going to enjoy the benefits of living in California… I will be hitting the mountains and the beach!

Though formed in the frigid dorms of Boston University, You Can Be A Wesley import a healthy dose of sunshine and warmth into their female-fronted indie pop. A four-piece featuring Saara Untracht-Oakner on vocals, Nick Curran on bass, Dyland Ramsey on drums, and Winston MacDonald on guitar, the band built up a strong fanbase and critical appreciation in their native New England before traveling the globe for spell: Saara and Nick finished their last semester of college in Sydney, while Winston embarked on an adventure through Ecuador. Reinvigorated by their experiences abroad, the band released an 8-song EP, Heard Like Us, in the summer of last year. Fast forward to now and they’ve just dropped a new 7″, the A-side of which you can download right here!

This past weekend, the ROXY crew headed up the 395 to Mammoth Mountain to celebrate the official start of the 2010/11 snow season! The ROXY bus rolled into town around 9pm on Friday, just in time for the Unbound Magazine Launch Party at Hyde Lounge. The red carpet was rolled out and the Hyde female staff was decked out in ROXY head-to-toe (courtesy of us, ‘course)! ROXY and QUIKSILVER owned the night with two tables side by side on the dance floor.

Saturday was an incredible day of riding with the mountain open top to bottom at Main Lodge. The first runs of the season were amazing. We found some hidden powder by chair 12, so the hike was on! As the day turned into night, we set up a ROXY in The Village at Mammoth to hand out swag and 2011 Roxy Chicken Jam “Save The Date” stickers.  People were stoked to receive free ROXY beanies, gloves and snowboard socks. We invited girls to take a snap shot with Torah to post on our Facebook page. After the premiere of the Unbound Snowboard Film: Another Day In Paradise, everyone headed up to Canyon Lodge to see The Sounds live in concert. As always, Hyde continued partying late into the evening with shout outs to ROXY and QUIKSILVER and dancing on the tables- what a great finale to an awesome weekend!
