Download of the Week: Sonny and the Sunsets “Too Young to Burn”

Available 10/6-10/13: Sonny and the Sunsets “Too Young to Burn”

Sonny and the Sunsets’ West Coast pop radiates with a classic sound that harkens back to ‘50s R&B and ‘60s AM radio. Cali native Smith started his career at the age of 18, playing in a piano bar  in the mountains of Colorado. In 2007 he recruited a few friends to form Sonny and The Sunsets. The band’s initial offering is Tomorrow Is Alright, an album full of straightforward pop songs that was just released on Fat Possum Records (home to such indie luminaries as The Walkmen and Wavves). From the first strum we knew it was the perfect beach record; download “Too Young To Burn” to see what we mean!

Download of the Week: Wild Nothing “Golden Haze”

Available 9/29-10/6: Wild Nothing “Golden Haze”

If you don’t get something right the first time, keep trying. That’s the lesson we get from Wild Nothing’s Jack Tatum. After two failed college bands, he struck out on his own with Wild Nothing, releasing his first album Gemini earlier this year. The results are astounding. Tatum handles most of the instruments– bass, guitar, synthesizer and drums—and he recorded everything in his home studio. Displaying an obvious love for ‘80s-era artists like New Order and Kate Bush, Gemini (and the follow-up EP Golden Haze, released this week) bubbles over with synthesizers, shimmering guitars and classic beats. Download “Golden Haze” now!
