Available 7/28 – 8/4 – Admiral Radley “Ghosts of Syllables”
After a few years of being friends – and a few drinks at lunch – Jason Lytle and Aaron Burtch of Grandaddy, and Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray of Earlimart, decided to join forces to become Admiral Radley, a bonafide indie rock supergroup, albeit one that’s a lot more subtle, snarky and humble than most star-studded combos. Formed between the beaches and museums of Southern California, yet heavily influenced by its members’ roots in the Central Valley towns of Modesto and Fresno, “AdRad” creates skewed indie pop that’s smart, funny and as majestic as the crashing surf. Their debut album, I Heart California, was just released on their own label. Download the single “Ghosts of Syllables” and hear what all the fuss is about!

We’re super inspired by the energy, drive and enthusiasm of Frankie Rose. In the last few years she’s drummed for three powerhouse bands: Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls and Vivian Girls. Now she’s struck out on her own with Frankie Rose and the Outs, an all-girl band that matches the power and intensity of her three previous bands while sounding entirely new. Taking the lead on guitar and vocals, Rose is backed bassist Caroline Yes, guitarist Margot Bianca, and drummer Kate Ryan. Together this quartet fashions hi-fi, melodic dream-pop that’s influenced by the Beach Boys and Gilbert and Sullivan musicals. The band’s self-titled debut will be released on Slumberland Records September 21st.

We’re huge fans for Swedish dance-pop sensation Robyn, so we’re beyond excited that she’s got a new album coming out in September called Body Talk Pt. 2. Here’s the video for the new single “Hang With Me”, which drops on August 17th. The clip is a great peek into the hectic life of a real working girl. See our heroine on tour, hanging with her band at an amusement park, and greeting fans. Robyn is real, and we love her for it!
Why would someone ride his bike cruiser from Hermosa Beach, CA to Kitty Hawk, NC? Kenny Livingston, whose epic ride kicked off July 24th, 2010, hopes that this bike cruisade will call attention to inspire positive change in healthier school lunches and cancer reasearch. Wanna know how you can chip in?Keep up with him daily on his trek across America and maybe even ride with him for a bit! 5 minutes, 5 hours, whatever you can fit in. Kenny, we wish you the best!
Available 7/21 – 7/28 – School of Seven Bells “Windstorm”
To avoid this page getting too dude-heavy, this month we bring you a download from School of Seven Bells, a band that features two sisters and absolutely no beards or mustaches! The band’s new album, Disconnect from Desire, is bright, airy, and beautiful, thanks to the shimmering voices of sisters and vocalists Alejandra and Claudia Deheza and their love for ’80s beats and ’90s shoegaze guitars. Also featuring ex-Secret Machines guitarist, Benjamin Curtis, SOSB has smoothed out the sound of its first record, Alpinisms, creating an album of gorgeous, personal pop songs that’s an easy listen from start to finish. Known for their graceful, theatrical live shows, the band will be criss-crossing the U.S. in September and October. Download the new single “Windstorm” and let us know what you think!
Last month, we got to hang with PacSun at their Ballyhoo event. At the Roxy booth we offered DIY native american inspired necklaces.
Not only are they fun to wear, but they were even more fun to make! As you can see, the girls went wild over our DIY booth. Thanks to Erika Domesek from P.S. I made this, we learned step by step how to create our new favorite accessories of the summer!
Here is our step by step guide:
