Vancouver Day 3 & 4

Erin and myself have had an action packed week in Vancouver. Our first day here we toured the city with Sarah and Robin via the Roxy RV shop tour extravaganza. Our second day, after a week of bus touring, we were long over due for some snow time and hopped in the RV to Whistler. After shredding we drove back to the city and had the fortune of eating at the best Ramen noodle soup house I have tasted this side of the Pacific (I forget the name, but it’s on Denman and Alberni, and you should go there).
It’s hard for me to imagine a day topping the combination of riding and ramen, but alas day 3 in Vancouver did just that. Erin and I went riding at Mount Seymour with the winners of a Roxy contest (Hi Jamie and Casey!). The hill was clouded by a dense fog for most of the morning, but we had so much fun that in good time we shredded the fog away. Looking down a sparkly Vancouver and the bay is another must do, so get your butts to British Columbia!

FEATURED ARTIST: Queens Club

featuredartist

Album Title: Young Giant
Featured Tracks: “Uh Huh” & “Nightmarer”
Record Label: Tooth & Nail Records
Website: http://myspace.com/queensclub

Bio: Queens Club, formed in 2008 by ex-members of The Chariot, are unashamedly accessible, with a dash of attitude. Ok, more than a dash. A ton of attitude. In fact, one can’t help but call to mind the energy found in bands like Franz Ferdinand or Bloc Party upon listening, but comparisons aside, QUEENS CLUB brings plenty of originality to the table. With Nightmarer (the band’s debut EP with Tooth & Nail Records), QUEENS CLUB are destined heirs to the rock throne and are ready to rule the hearts of music lovers worldwide.

Skeptical? When the full length releases in 2010 you can borrow my extra pair of dancing shoes. Fans who have already had a chance to hear the band know exactly what I’m talking about, and those who don’t will most assuredly join the Club.

2/16-2/22 Loch Lomond “Ghost of an Earthworm”
This week, we’re offering a little tune by Oregon’s own, Loch Lomond. Maybe you saw them open for The Decemberists or even Blitzen Trapper last year? Well here’s your chance to listen to one of our favorite songs off their latest EP Night Bats, “Ghost of an Earthworm.” And Ritchie Young’s voice sure is something, with such unique range and power to it. Enjoy!

Roxy in Vancouver: Day 2

Driving through the downtown streets getting to see all the people from the RV point of view is pretty awesome. I went down to the Quiksilver Store on Granville street where Christina Culver was giving Roxy Cheer Manicures. If you’re in Vancouver, stop by the Quiksilver store (820 Granville Street) from now until February 20th for your free Roxy Cheer Manicure.

The Road to Vancouver

Road trips are always an adventure, especially when you are headed somewhere exciting. Last week myself, Erin, Robin, hardgoods designer Kyre, and our very own chauffeur, Travis, boarded the Roxy RV in Denver and hit the road to Vancouver.  On the way we stopped at our favorite shops armed with gifts of cupcakes, beer, and Roxy goods. Here are some of the highlights:

Erin and Robin about to enter a Boulder sweet spot
This Boulder shop was really cool, all women's product- yeah Outdoor Divas!

Robin playing dress-up at another Boulder stop
Another sweet shot of Robin

This shop has a bigger gun section than snowboard section… eek
This shop not only carried boards, but also guns

We’re big fans of the shop crew at MCu’s in Boise
The awesome crew at McU's in Boise

The whole RV posse in Seattle… almost there!
Our last state, Washington

Finally, after 4 days, we made it to the promise-land

Roxy in Vancouver: Shop Tours

I met up with the Roxy team Saturday morning at the Quiksilver office and I got my first look at my whip for the next week – the Roxy RV. I gotta say, I’m hella popular in this thing. At first I was confused by all the people staring, but within the first five minutes of driving downtown someone yelled “ROXXXXYYYYY, WOOOOOOOOOO!!!” and I realized it’s not me, it’s the RV… maybe I should drive this thing full time?!

Roxy in Vancouver: Opening Ceremonies

The Opening Ceremonies gave me many ideas for my next birthday party (April 29th). 1) Have a giant drum for banging and dancing on. 2) Definitely have an epic light show. 3) Unlimited shirtless handsome men wearing wolf hat/capes. You may have noticed only one of these babes at the Opening Ceremonies… My party is going to be better.

What athletes would I invite to my party? Well, Solely based on outfits, the guest list would be as follows

Andorra: well done with their casual cool pattern. I guarantee these guys would show up with gifts.

2b

Australia: I am partial to black & white and these guys looked goooood.

3

4

Austria & Great Britain: I like the preppy/school uniform look they both had… I wasn’t fooled though, these guys would be the first to dance on my giant drum.

5b

5

Germany: The retro vest with the bright colors reminded me of what my dad used to wear skiing. Of course my Dad can come to this party.

8

Mexico: By far the best outfit. Totally casual parka with a fur hood. classic. cool. Sending them an invite right now.

6

Honorable Mention: Canada. I squinted my eyes and imagined they were wearing plaid shirts, black jeans, and fur hats – which made them look like most of my friends and I wanted them all at my jam jam of the year.

7

Donald Sutherland, yes Jack Bauer’s Dad, was one of eight that carried out the flag. He is coming to my party so my Dad has someone cool to hang out with.

Roxy Skier Shanny Cohen on the COVER of Sports Guide Magazine

How the shot went down, by Shanny Cohen:

This cover shot has really changed my perspective on shooting and skiing. Jony and I didn’t get to the Canyons until 2:15 in the afternoon and the light was horrible. It was early season, so no jumps or rails, only boxes. Regardless, we still decided to head up to see what we could get. We spent 45 minutes shooting with strobes due to the horrible light and late start. Our only option was to shoot the coolest looking box we could find. It’s all about dedication. Dedication from the skier and the photographer. For me it’s loving the sport enough to go out and ski regardless of the conditions. The Roxy outerwear colors pop and I have a smile on my face. Thanks to my Sponsors for the steezy gear : Roxy, Electric, Bern, Skullcandy, DonJoy, Surefoot and The Canyons. Thanks to Jony for the creative cover shot! Picture 3

Roxy in Vancouver: Introduction

Hello – I’m Jodi. I will be your local blog host reporting live from the games in Vancouver. I’m responsible for driving the Roxy team around on the Roxy bus and bringing all of  YOU an exclusive look at all the behind the scenes action.

I call Vancouver home and my Mom was a bus driver when I was little, so you are all in good hands. I have never seen my city so alive and I’m excited to share it with you. You won’t have to just take my word for it either, I’m going to show you the buzz through the lens of my Canon DSLR.
