Featured Artist: The Willowz

featuredartist

Willowz2hires_SMALLAlbum Title: Everyone
Featured Tracks: “Repetition” & “All I Need”
Record Label: Dim Mak Records
Website: www.myspace.com/thewillowz

Bio: In 2002, while still in their teens, Anaheim natives Richie James Follin and Jessica Reynoza formed the Willowz. Their music was a mix of brash rock ‘n’ roll, soul, and instinctive raw punk. They recorded a 7-inch for legendary Posh Boy records produced by Follin’s stepfather Paul Kostabi (White Zombie, Psychotica, Y.G.M., Detours). They then toured relentlessly across America, and in 2003 recorded their debut self titled album for Dionysus records. Songs from that album were featured in Michel Gondry’s Oscar winning film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. Two songs were included on the Grammy nominated soundtrack as well. Gondry also directed a video for the band featured on the directors label box set and was quoted as saying, “I wish to be to the Willowz what Warhol was to the Velvet Underground.” Willowz then released a 7-inch for XL records and toured the U.K.

In 2005 the Willowz recorded and released their highly ambitious second album “Talk in Circles” on Sympathy for the Record Industry. The album was ranked as one of the “Top 50 albums of 2005″ by Rolling Stone magazine, graded “A-” by Spin magazine, and ranked on many of the year end lists throughout the country as one of the best albums of the year. The album also features a guest vocal appearance by Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks). Songs from the album were featured in Gondry’s film “The Science of Sleep” as well as on the soundtrack. The Willowz followed up “Talk in Circles” with “See in Squares”, a dvd accompany to the album with a video for every song (27 videos total and live footage of the band playing a catholic school summer camp in Oklahoma). They were nominated for Rock band of the year by the LA Weekly.

In 2007 the Willowz signed to Dim Mak records and released “Chautauqua”. This album featured a heavier sound rooted deeply in rock and psychedelic music. The album was named “#1 Rock Album of the Year” by the O.C. Weekly. The Willowz toured world wide for this release playing over 300 shows in 2008. They also released numerous 7-inches on labels such as April 77, Contaminated, Acid Bird, and SFTRI.

In February of 2009 the Willowz went to Dallas to record their 4th full length album entitled “Everyone”. The album was produced by Stuart Sikes and is the best Willowz album to date. Their latest album contains the raw energy they are known for, mixed with strongly crafted pop hooks. “Everyone” is set to be released Fall 2009 on Dim Mak / Downtown records.

Rain Rain, Go Away…

I’m not a huge fan of the rain in general. However, there is one piece of shining light when the skies open up…rain boot time! They seem so impractical for the amount of days in the year when you would actually need to wear them…but trust me, when it does rain and you have them- there is absolutely nothing better. Right now, stores have incredible selections to match every price range (high and low). So pick up a pair, grab a coat and step out in your snazzy new boots. Who knows? You may even feel like doing a little “singing in the rain…”

Caught! In the Act of Wearing Roxy…Britta!

This is Britta. I am lucky enough to have my desk right by hers so we have become quite good friends. She is one of the cutest, sweetest people I have ever met  (EVER!) and every time you talk with her, you have to resist the urge to hug her…because she is just so cute!

Anyway, another great thing about Britta is her awesome style. It’s very boho chic and she always has an element of suprise…either it be fringed sandals or the fun feather earrings she is wearing below. I am particularly obsessed with the way she is rocking the Pancake sweatshirt (on sale too so grab it fast!) on this rainy, rainy day. She looks so cozy and definitely hugable…per usual!

The Story of 365 Days of Roxy

roxy-challenge_02Welcome to 365 Days of Roxy!

Angela and Erin both met at work; Angela pretty much grew up with the brand and now works at the corporate office, taking after her father, who was a major player for Quiksilver for over 12 years.

Likewise, Erin started with the company over 10 years ago, starting as a sales rep’s assistant and working her way up in sales for ROXY.

They both live and breathe ROXY’s lifestyle and a little over a year ago, they decided to start a little deal between the two of them.  Every work-day, they had to wear at least one piece of either ROXY or Quiksilver Women’s clothing as part of their daily outfit.  They began posting on Facebook, and before they knew it, they became a cult fave around the office and with their daily posts.  So they decided to create an event centered around this idea, so you can join the party too.

Every day, Angela and Erin will continue to take pics of their daily outfits and let you know what they’re wearing.  Feel free to ask questions, friend them on Facebook, and find out how they might wear some cool piece of ROXY or Quiksilver Women’s that you have your eye on buying.  And it wouldn’t be a party unless you participated, taking pics and posting your outfits, showing us all how you incorporate the love of ROXY into your daily lives.

Angela and Erin will also be writing on our blog as well, posting on their days, their nights, their travels, and everything in between.

So welcome aboard – we couldn’t be more excited to have you!

2010/2011 Snowboard Preview on Transworld Business

1-19-2010 10-29-23 AMCheck out a preview of our 2010/2011 snowboards Transworld Business.

Some interesting points from the article:

What are the biggest forces shaping the changes and developments you’ve made to your boards?

Innovative technology, the economy, and the environment.
The (Banana) technology that is out now is a real reason to buy. It’s tangible and makes a difference  – good for shops, and good for consumers.  It’s energizing people about snowboarding, and giving them one more reason to get themselves up in the mountains. Forget the stress and pressures of everything that’s been happening lately and go snowboarding on new tech.

We live for a sport that is directly affected by the state of the environment.  It’s important to incorporate environmentally friendly materials, processes for building products, and waste reduction.  As a part of the Mervin family we have the most environmentally progressive factory in the world.

Any new materials or construction technologies?
Besides Banana, we have changed all of our wood cores, going to lighter weight, and as many fast growing sustainable timbers as possible. Our shining star is the new Columbian Gold core, found in Torah’s new C2 BTX Eminence.  It’s 30% lighter.

What themes are you seeing for graphics?
Still colorful but not too detailed or busy all over.
For our line we’ve worked with many different artist and art mediums: paintings, vector, watercolor and multiple types of photography. One stand out, and a different take on photography is Carlo Van de Roer – for Torah’s Eminence C2 BTX.  He photographs auras.  The graphic is actually a photo of light.

Style Scouting: Mary-Kate Olsen

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am secretly (or maybe not so secretly now), OBSESSED with the Olsen twins. I love the way they artfully throw all their outfits together with that “messy I didn’t try too hard but am naturally gorgeous and am styled perfectly” type mantra. It never ceases to amaze me.

This outfit reminds me of Mary-Kate. I can totally see her rocking this adorable burnout tee and short shorts with sky-high heels, a blazer and bracelets galore. Simple and utterly chic…as is her style! So why don’t you channel some MKO and try it yourself?
