Roxy ATHLETIX Roadtripping: The Southwest

We’ve been venturing across desert, plains, and curving hills to bring Roxy ATHLETIX to universities in Texas & beyond.  Lots of cacti, tumbleweed, and adventures the past few days. We’ve been through Flagstaff – Arizona, Albuquerque – New Mexico, and Amarillo – Texas.  Lots of loud music and (sitting/seat-belted) dance parties in the Roxy bus to pass the time on the road.

Made it safely to Lubbock, Texas.  Already getting ready for our Roxy smoothies at Texas Tech.  Get this – we need to buy 300 bananas PER event day!  The grocery stores are always mystified by our large banana order…”for our monkeys” we say :-p

Look – the Roxy bus is in the middle of nowhere! Maybe the rattlesnakes would like some Roxy Athletix yoga pants.

The Beginning of Texas

Danielle and I are almost professional truckers by now : ) We love to see all the pretty scenery/eat trail mix along the way.
Professional Truckers Danielle and Britta

A HUGE WIND STORM attacked us (suddenly) in the middle of the plains. Terrifying, but we survived to see a full rainbow ooo.

Roxy Roadtrip in New Mexico

We stumbled upon the Road Kill Cafe off of Route 66 in New Mexico (with items like "Almost Crossed the Road Chicken" aww poor lil chicken guy). Danielle and I are starting to feel the cowgirl vibes already.

Roxy Athletix Workout Series: Glutes

Keep it right and keep it tight old school style…Video 3 will show you the proper technique to execute a great glute workout. We will establish stability and balance in our core and upper body to achieve muscle focus on our glutes. Let’s move and motivate ourselves to follow the video for at least 2 rounds. The good news, Roxy has created the ready set sports bra and hot competition shorts to fit light, non-constricting and with just the right absorption factor.

The Roxy ATHLETIX Tour…in Vegas, baby!

The Roxy Athletix Tour made its first stop, ladies and gentlemen…in VEGAS.  We were at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas last week.  And it was awesome.  We had tons of fun hanging out with students at UNLV under the desert sun.  Free yoga, pilates and cross-training classes with our trainers (with free Roxy Athletix bras woo!).   Free delicious Roxy smoothies.  And a fun blow-up obstacle course to run through for sweet Roxy and Quiksilver prizes.  Also perfect timing because we shared the field with an Oozeball tournment: mud volleyball : ) Needless to say, we had lots of muddy visitors at our Roxy tents at this stop.

What’s next?  Road tripping to Texas!  Here we come Texas Tech.  Watch out for our pink/sunset colored Roxy bus on the road…

Sweat is Sweet
Sweat is Sweet! Shellie show the boys and girls how to work it! It was a hot one. We drank lots of Gatorade that day.

Teen Vogue Haute Spot – So Hot Right Now

One of the perks of working in the Public Relations department here at Roxy includes getting to leave the office to wander around the mall during the middle of the day.  Okay, so my meandering was actually serving a work purpose, but it was still pretty neat!

If you have already read Mia’s post about the Teen Vogue Haute Spot that has FINALLY hit South Coast Plaza, you should know it’s a pop-up store that showcases some of the hottest trends for teens.  I say finally because I have been working on this project for quite some time and was supremely interested in what the final outcome would be.  Here’s a behind the scenes look at what it took to get Roxy involved with the Haute Spot.

To begin, the elusive pop up store doesn’t only have a physical space, but also an online component.  That’s where our story begins.  Two months ago, I began working with Kara Lederman, one of the editors at Teen Vogue, to coordinate product shots for the online look books.  Seems easy enough, right? Try coordinating existing images, availability online and in-stores, and samples all while you’re between seasons!  Insane, but oh so much fun. I got to work with our photo studio, merchandise and design team, and web producers.

After a plethora of phone calls, I finally pulled together all the components to make the editor happy. Phew! Until… dum dum dum… I had to round up the physical product to send to South Coast Plaza.

Quick PR Tidbit: We get a sample line of our products for each season and send this out to different magazines for them to use.  Typically, the turn around time is about 2 weeks.  Now that you’re a PR guru, you can probably guess that since the  Teen Vogue Haute Spot needed samples for almost a month, using my product line wasn’t going to fly.  Dilemma!

After exhausting many options of finding product, I was able to scramble some pieces from multiple departments/our warehouse and send them on their way.

So, what was the final product?  Well, friends, I present to you… the TEEN VOGUE HAUTE SPOT!!

DATAROCK Goes Skydiving!

Anyone have a parachute?  Datarock does!  And they use it to go skydiving all across the world to tell people that their new single “True Stories” is out!  The single features a remix by Bjorn Torske as well as a video.  You’ve seen other blogs from us about Datarock, but check out this rad video of them jumping out of helicopters to spread the word of the release.  If you’ve thought about skydiving before, this video will definitely inspire you to finally do it.  So get out there and live your life!  Go skydiving!

National Free Cookie Day

It’s nice to be part of a first. There are BIG firsts like watching the first man on the moon or the first space shuttle launch. And smaller but equally important firsts like your first crush, your first awesome concert or your first day of high school. Imagine this one: being first in your class or (soon, I’m sure!) the USA’s first female President. How about first one in the family to go to college. What firsts are your faves?

I’m happy to know that we can all be part of another first and it’s free, easy and ridiculously tasty. My significant other informed me that October 1st is National Free Cookie Day!

No, not joking.
Totally serious.
Yes, free.
No, they are not internet cookies, I really am talking about the real cookies you can eat.
I know, I know, it’s too good to be true.

And I would normally agree with you. But for the proof that is all over the internet including a promotion at none other than Mrs. Fields. There’s even a Press Release. Now that’s a serious cookie committment. Anyway you slice the cookie dough, looks like October 1 will be a sweet day.

Alberta Cross’ Upcoming Album: Broken Side of Time

AC Album Cover

I just got the latest album from Alberta Cross called Broken Side of Time and I’ve had it on repeat ever since.  It has some great rock riffs and there really isn’t a song that I don’t like.  My two personal favorites are “ATX” and “Leave Us and Forgive Us,” which is just a small taste of what the band has to offer.  So if you haven’t already, go check out Alberta Cross and pick up their new album which hits stores September 22, 2009.
