A Message in A Bottle – Sigg Bottle Decorating Contest At Roxy

Allbottles_2

Sigg bottles are awesome. Not only are they re-usable, but they are made with non-toxic materials, are a great way to stay hydrated throughout the day, and their design is really cool!

Sigg has donated 50 reusable water bottles to Roxy for our second employee Art Showcase! The challenge is to design the bottle using any medium that you liked but relating it back to the theme "Eco Beach" (in celebration of Roxy/Quiksilver’s desire to preserve the worlds boardriding communities and environments.)

I decided to join in the fun this year (along with a few of my fellow roxy.com team members) and we turned in our bottles this week. If you had the chance, what kind of message would you put on a bottle?

On March 17th a silent auction will take place at Roxy HQ with all the proceeds being donated to The Ecology Center.

How to Make Candles Out of Old Surf Wax

I read this cool article written by surfer Kyla Langen that teaches you how to make candles from the old surf wax on your board. Looks fun. I especially like how she uses crayons to color the candles. Sweet. I’m going to try this at
home!

Out with the dark and in with the bold! Celebrate spring early this year with some fresh, eye-popping nail trends straight off the New York runways.

Try out this awesome gradient-fade style as seen at designer Akiko Ogawa’s show with these step-by-step instructions.  Or punch it up in shades of cheery yellow, red, pink or orange with Sephora’s new OPI nail collection. But lastly, my personal favorite trend for this spring are these absolutely gorgeous coral, raspberry and purple hues – simple, yet oh-so show-stopping! Exactly my style…

Roxy and Samantha Davies Around the World!

Highlightsofvendeeglobe

We are so proud of Sam Davies!!! She posted the second fastest time ever for a female to finish the Vendee Globe!! The Vendee Globe is a solo sailing race around the world. Captain Sam sailed all by herself around the entire world. And she finished third!…watch this funny clip of her dancing on board in the middle of the race. Congrats Sam!!

From Roxy Europe:

Today at 00:41 (GMT), British female solo sailor Sam Davies,
onboard Roxy, crossed the Vendée Globe finish line in third place.
After 96 days, 12 hours, 39 minutes and 1 second at sea and 27,470
miles of racing, Sam became only the third Briton ever to achieve a
podium place finish in the infamous race that starts and ends in Les
Sables d’Olonne, France.

At the end of
December, Sam Davies and Roxy altered course to help in the daring sea
rescue of fellow competitor Yann Eliès, who suffered a broken leg while
alone at sea. Roxy was given 32 hours redress, to be deducted from her
finishing time, meaning that Sam’s final official racing time stands
at: 95 days, 4 hours, 39 minutes and 1 second. She must beat French
skipper Marc Guillemot, who was given a redress of 82 hours after his
help in the same rescue, by 50 hours to secure third place.

At
the age of 34, Sam Davies becomes the second fastest female ever, after
Ellen MacArthur, to complete the race. Sam is also the first Briton to
cross the finish line of the 2008/2009 race, beating the likes of
sailing legend Brian Thompson and the only other female competitor, Dee
Caffari, both racing on new boats and not expected over the line for
another couple of days.

Supporting Slumdog Millionaire

Blogslum
Every year I love watching the Oscars to see the always entertaining fashion hits and misses, but this year I am super excited to see how the movie Slumdog Millionaire fares in its 10 nominations. This movie, about a young boy who goes on the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, is incredibly moving and so powerful! If you haven’t seen it, I would definitely recommend checking it out– especially if the weather this weekend threatens to keep you indoors…
