A Simple Song with Zella Day

Zella_head

Cute and up coming singer-songwritter Zella Day
stopped by Roxy headquarters for lunch. She brought her guitar and we
had a little jam session in the grass outside.

Even though she’s only 13, she definitely has a bright future ahead of her. She was recently invited to participate in a reality TV show so you may be seeing her in your living rooms some time soon. I loved her converse…they were signed by Jim Peterik (lead singer of Survivor (Eye of the Tiger)) AWESOME!

Watch this clip of her
performing "Simple Song." You can
listen to the rest it on myspace.com/zelladaymusic.

Follow Your Heart tour gets crazy in NYC!

Follow Your Heart tour gets crazy in NYC!, originally uploaded by Official Roxy Photos.

The glitz, the glamour, the lights, the smells, the tastes, the sounds, and the CITY! New York! What a powerful place. I can’t think of anywhere else I’ve been in my life thus far that gave me the overwhelming feeling of holly good gracious where in the darn tootin am I. That statement right there should sum it all up; I am certainly no city girl! My eyes have never been open wider.

As most of you probably already know the Follow Your Heart tour was in Long Island, New York at the Roosevelt Field mall. We had another incredible turn out, with another early bird gets the worm mentality. We had girls lined up before we could even begin set up.

The Roxy wearin ladies, who came out for our event made struttin a habit. The ladies in New York by far could conquer the dreaded catwalk. These girls didn’t even think twice. We even had people stay late just to walk the runway. Those Jersey girls aint scrrrrd.

Well as we do what we do we had to pick three. These three are…. oh heck, we’ll get to that in a sec…. don’t scan down and look for names! I know, I know, it’s been a week since our last posting. Sorry about that. We had a long haul drive we made from New York to Colorado and some things………………. well, basically we stopped in Colorado and took a few days off. HI MOM! Sorry about that.

Ok where was I? Oh yes sir, the three nominees from Long Island at the Roosevelt field mall were; Jasmine Rivers age 17 from Bronx, New York, Missy McCoy age 20 from East Islip, New York, and our contest winner is Karmen Guilyard.

Karmen is age 17 from Kernersville, North Carolina. Karmen loves fashion because she says it’s a way to be expressive without having to say anything. “People can tell I’m a really chill person by how comfortable I look and dress.” Said Karmen. Sounds pretty game show to me. And that she was. Karmen was a delight to meet. She was very chill, just like she said.

I guess this is the part where I have to start wrapping this lengthy post up. In more than one way ☹ (sad face). This adventure of ours is yet to be over as we are now on our way back to Cali. Unfortunetly our Roxy Follow Your heart tour schedule seems to be looking a little vacant. My friends, it is sad but true we have reached the end of our Roxy Follow Your Heart tour model search. I truly want to thank all those stunners for comin out to our events. I have personally loved every second of it and have enjoyed the company of all the Roxy lovin chickadees out there!
As Mr. Saget would say (Americas funniest home videos), “keep those cameras rolling.” You still have till the 1st to get those puppies in! C’mon, ten grand??!! That’s a lot of dolla bills!
You can also check out our crazy pics from New York in the photo gallery. Check ya on the west side.
Much Love,
Samantha and Carissa

Hot Fudge Friday – National Hot Fudge Sundae Day

What better to start off your weekend than this vision of perfection?  That’s right folks, today, July 25th,  is National Hot Fudge Sundae Day. If this photo below totally inspires you to create your own choco-masterpiece than we can help.  Here’s a handy how-to for those who need a guide.  Get creative: whipped cream, cherries, nuts.  Personally I’m making mine with bananas.  Or does that require National Banana Split Day?

Happy Hot-Fudge Friday, TGIFF!!

ROXY at the US Open

Sofia_us_0pen
What an amazing day for Women’s surfing at the US Open! We had all surf conditions today, from heavy current, to 3ft perfect re-forms and then to the right hand "pier bowl" started working!
Roxy’s Ornella Pellizzari (ARG) started it off by winning her first heat in the Round of 60, which put her into the main Round of 48.

Round of 48 began with Megan Abubo blazing thru her first heat which landed her into the next Round of 24.  Then there was an awesome heat where both Sofia Mulanovich (PERU) and Lee Ann Curren (FRA) surfed to their finest, and it paid off as they both moved on to the Round of 24. Heat 6 had some turbulence for our Roxy girls Laura Enever (AUS) and Bruna Schmitz (BRA) as they just couldn’t catch a break. Heat 7 was a nail biter; it was veteran Serena Brooke versus the "young guns" (Sally Fitzgibbons, Courtney Conlogue and Coco Ho) In the end, it was Hawaii’s Coco Ho out in front and Sally in solid second.  Heat 11 had great conditions as Roxy’s Rosy Hodge (ZAF) finished in the lead.

Round of 24 had us all sitting on our tails, as Lee Ann Curren dominated her heat with her amazing style and grace. (Her Dad, legendary Tom Curren was so proud). Up next was Sofia Mulanovich, she was having a field day out in the lead with Megan Abubo right on her tail, both succeeding into the Round of 12.  It was Sally up next, and the conditions were just getting weaker…BUT she continued to amaze the judges and crowd with her solid maneuvers; which got her into the Round of 12!

Up next, is Friday the 25th at 2:10pm is Round 12;  Heat #1 is going to be a doozie with Sofia, Lee Ann and Sally all up together.

ToRoxy Artist: Terry Keating

Art_showcase018
Intricate ink portrait line drawings over neon green and hot pink acrylic paint characterize the album that Terry Keating created for Quiksilver Foundation’s Artist Showcase.

"All of these faces are different random girls’ portraits, except for one secret face, and that’s my boy friends," said Terry.

At Roxy, Terry designs graphics for special order tees and fleece. She will use a variety of mediums, such as watercolor, ink, and colored pencils to make her designs.

Terrykeating_3Surfpatrolink

Terry and her co-worker Adam worked together to create this design -  called Surfpatrol. Adam first drew the ink outline and then Terry painted it in with watercolors.
Once the design was finished, it was then scanned into the computer and printed on t-shirts. Ever wonder how all those graphics got on your tees? Well artists like Terry and Adam designed them, by hand! Isn’t that cool? What a great way to combine art and fashion.

Artistshowcase011When Terry isn’t creating graphics for Roxy, she loves to spend her time painting on wood with acrylic or else working with watercolors. Her favorite things to paint are flowers. You can see more of her work and read her blog at Terrykeatingdesign.com.

This August she is going to be in another show called Sk8ology: Fine Art on Skateboards at ISM gallery in Long Beach. Right now she is painting the top of a skate deck for the show. Sounds interesting.

On Saturday August 23, 2008 the ISM: gallery will host the opening
exhibition, showcasing over 100 creative deck canvases from some of the
most poignant and significant active artists and professional skaters.

Contributing artists and professional skaters are donating their
creative deck canvases to raise awareness and resources in an effort to
support Now That You Know, a non-profit organization that helps to
provide ambitious girls from developing countries a secure environment
for learning and growth. Proceeds will also contribute to benefiting
the youth of our society through the artistic enrichment of our
community.

If you miss Sk8ology in Long Beach, you can catch it again down in San Diego. The show will travel to the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) trade show in September.
