Roxy_catalog1_2
Say chheeeesseee and meet the roxy.com team!

We took a minute and snapped
this picture in the Roxy studio before the craziness of the fall
catalog photoshoot began. It was fun sitting on giant boxes painted with R, O, X, and Y.

Go team! This is going straight into the yearbook.

Fruit for Thought

Untitled1
1500 miles is the average distance a piece of fruit travels in North America before it arrives in a grocery store.

Wow, that’s really far!

Considering that apple you’re eating for lunch probably traveled from South America to make it into your brown paper bag, wouldn’t it be cool eat fruit from your own backyard?

Fallen Fruit is a collaborative project between David Burns, Matias Viegener and Augstin Young. They searched the neighborhoods of LA and created maps where all the public fruit can be found. This “fallen fruit” is free for the taking and is in David’s words, “crazily delicious.

Every so often Fallen Fruit holds Nocturnal Fruit Walks where people walk through neighborhoods picking public fruit. About 200 people have come with shopping cards and fruit pickers to be part of this community happening, like trick-or-treating, but without the cavities.

Find out where fallen fruit may be in your neighborhood and go on a little walk. Learn how to create your own fallen fruit map and submit it to the project.

There are hidden treasures in your own backyard. Just have a look around!

Sunset Washed Away

The sun is setting later each day and with it brings more colors to the sky. I saw this video today and it reminded me of these dreamy, warm May evenings.

Barnyard Buddies for Adoption

WyattHave you ever wanted a pony but didn’t have a ranch? Is your backyard barely big enough for a large golden retriever to run around in?

Now you can sponsor your own barn yard buddy online! Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Missouri rehabilitates and rescues homeless barn animals. Your sponsorship helps to feed, board, and provide medial care for the animal of your choice.

Each animal up for sponsorship has their own story…

Like Wyatt, a black, potbellied pig who came to the ranch after his family moved to a new home where the landlord didn’t allow pets.

Or Amigo, the 6-yr-old sorrel and white pinot colored miniature horse who came to the ranch after his owner passed away.

And Pepe, a black Katahdin sheep, born at the ranch. His mother was rescued from unsanitary living conditions but when Pepe was born she was afraid of him and wouldn’t let him nurse.

These are just a few of the ranch stories…Find your own barnyard buddy and show them some love!

Lisa Andersen is Fearlessness

Fearlessness
I just finished Lisa Andersen’s bio Fearlessness by Nick Carroll and I’m in love with her story…

Lisa spent her childhood in Florida, learned how to surf at Ormond Beach, and ran away from home as a teenager to California. All she left behind was a prophetic note for her mother:

“[Lisa's mother] recalled it saying:…I’m leaving and I’m going to be the number one surfer in the world.”

From the start did Lisa have the drive and passion to become a world champion? Or was this just a random note from rebellious teenage? I’d like to think it’s the first…

The book goes on to tell the story of Lisa’s great adventure. From her grom days in Huntington to world class professional surfer, her first contest and her first love, the legend of Lisa Andersen is told for the first time in a fresh and inspiring way. She paved the way for a new era in women’s surfing and definitely earned the title of her book Fearlessness (which is also on necklace that she wears around her neck). A great summer read. Highly recommend it.

TOROXY Music Club: Goldfrapp – Happiness

How’d you get to be happiness? For Goldfrapp, the answer is simple, you jump up and down for an entire three minutes and 37 seconds! At least that’s what Will Gregory does in this video. :-)

Happiness is off of Goldfrapp’s newest album Seventh Tree. Watch it and then go to their website. Video scenes play from the cover shoot. Love it!

East Coast Blogger in California!

This past week I took a trans-continental trip from South Carolina to California! It was an awesome experience, and i really loved the West Coast! Mia and Jen from Roxy gave me a tour of the headquarters in Huntington Beach, CA and I got to see all of the behind-the-scenes work that produces the cute clothes I wear. While I was there, I also hung out in Santa Monica and Venice, and I went to the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard! I spent a day on Catalina Island too, which was absolutely beautiful! The beaches were a lot bigger and nicer, but I missed my lovely SC beach while I was gone!
